The Battle of Montcornet, on 17 May 1940, was an engagement of the Battle of France. The French 4e Division cuirassée, under then Colonel Charles de Gaulle, attacked the German-held village of Montcornet with over 200 French tanks. The French drove off the Germans, but later had to retreat due to lack of support and the intervention of the Luftwaffe.

Ouvrage La Ferté, also known as Ouvrage Villy-La Ferté, is a petit ouvrage of the Maginot Line, located in the Fortified Sector of Montmédy, facing Belgium. The ouvrage lies between the towns of Villy and La Ferté-sur-Chiers. It possesses two combat blocks linked by an underground gallery. The westernmost position in its sector, it was a comparatively weakly armed fortification in an exposed position that left it vulnerable to isolation and attack. After a sustained attack during the Battle of France the position was overwhelmed by German forces and was destroyed with its entire garrison killed. The fighting at La Ferté was the heaviest of any position in the Maginot Line. It is preserved as a war memorial.

Fort Douaumont was the largest and highest fort on the ring of 19 large defensive works which had protected the city of Verdun, France since the 1890s. By 1915, the French General Staff had concluded that even the best-protected forts of Verdun could not resist bombardments from the German 420 mm Gamma guns. These new super-heavy howitzers had easily taken several large Belgian forts out of action in August 1914. Fort Douaumont and other Verdun forts were judged ineffective and had been partly disarmed and left virtually undefended since 1915. On 25 February 1916, Fort Douaumont was entered and occupied without a fight by a small German raiding party comprising only 19 officers and 79 men. Mid-Hants Railway Trip To Baie de la Somme Railway Gala 2009 (part 2 of 6)

This was my first trip documentary that I ever made. It was shot over 3 days at the Baie de la Somme railway gala in 2009. I used my ever faithful Sony VX2000 with a small manfrotto tripod. The video itself was produced for the Mid-Hants Railway Preservation Society (part of the Watercress Line) and they are the group that feature in this film. I hope that you enjoy it!
