Both Split and Trogir are beautiful and affordable destinations in Croatia. They're easily accessible with plenty of options for transportation and accommodation.
Personally, I found Split to be crowded and unimpressive. Trogir, on the other hand, is one of the most beautiful towns in Croatia. In the future I hope to return and spend more time exploring the small towns in Croatia like Trogir and Omis.
