5. Scheveningen Pier
The Scheveningen Pier is a pleasure pier in the Dutch resort town of Scheveningen near The Hague.
Opened in 1959, the current pier is the second in the town, the first being lost just after, and as a result of, the Second World War.

Rijksmuseum
A museum dedicated to arts and history. Was founded in Hague in 1800 and moved to Amsterdam in 1808. Has on display 8,000 objects. In 2013, after a ten-year renovation which cost €375 million, the main building was reopened by Queen Beatrix.
Van Gogh Museum
An art museum dedicated to the works of Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries. Opened on 3 June 1973. Has the largest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and drawings in the world.
Anne Frank House
During World War II, Anne Frank hid from Nazi persecution with her family and four other people in hidden rooms at the rear of canal house, known as the Secret Annex. She did not survive the war, but in 1947 her wartime diary was published.
Heineken Experience
A historic brewery and corporate visitor center for the internationally distributed Dutch pilsner. The industrial facility was built as the first Heineken brewery in 1867, serving as the company's primary brewing facility until 1988.
Vondelpark
A public urban park of 47 hectares (120 acres). Was opened in 1865. Has around 10 million visitors. In the park is an open air theatre, a playground and several horeca facilities.
Singel

One of three palaces in the Netherlands which are at the disposal of the monarch by Act of Parliament. Was built as the Town Hall of the city and was opened as such on 29 July 1655. It was built on 13,659 wooden piles and cost 8.5 million gulden.
Natura Artis Magistra
The oldest zoo in the Netherlands. Also contains an aquarium and a planetarium. Has three gates with the words 'Natura', 'Artis', and 'Magistra' written above each of them. The last quagga in captivity died at Artis on 12 August 1883.

Start off your journey through Amsterdam by renting a bicycle / bike. There are places around the Amsterdam Central Station and Dam Square that offer various bike rental options.
There is a lot of great food in Amsterdam which you must try. Apple pie is an Dutch Amsterdam classic. With a bit of cream / slagroom, it is delicious. Winkel 43 is one of the best places to get fresh apple pie. When in Amsterdam you should also visit one of the many cheese shops. There are many all over town.

A canal tour in Amsterdam offers a good overview of the city's attractions.
Of the mooring at the Central Station the tour leads past at the film museum Eye. The building, opened in April 2012, was designed by the Austrian architectural office Delugan Meissl Associated Architects.
The glass building of the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) reminds of a wave, or a fish.
Het Scheepvaartmuseum - The National Maritime Museum is located In a former storehouse of the Dutch Navy.
The building in the shape of a ship is the Science Museum Nemo (New Metropolis), designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. Especially young visitors are allowed to touch and discover the presented technique. From the terrace on the roof one has a beautiful view of Amsterdam.
The tour continues along the Museum of the Tropics to the Hermitage. The Hermitage Museum, a branch museum of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, was opened in 2009 by Queen Beatrix and the Russian president Medwedew.
Past the City Hall, we return to the landing stage at the Central Station.

Von der Anlegestelle am Hauptbahnhof führt die Tour vorbei am Filmmuseum Eye. Das im April 2012 eröffnete Gebäude wurde vom österreichischen Architekturbüro Delugan Meissl Associated Architects gestaltet.
Das gläserne Gebäude des Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) erinnert an eine Welle, oder einen Fisch.
In einem ehemaligen Lagerhaus der niederländischen Marine befindet sich heute das Schiffahrtsmuseum - Het Scheepvaartmuseum.
Das Gebäude in Form eines Schiffes ist das Wissenschaftsmuseum Nemo (New Metropolis), entworfen vom italienischen Architekten Renzo Piano. Hier wird vor allem kleinen Besuchern Technik zum Anfassen präsentiert. Auf dem Dach gibt es eine Terrasse von der man einen schönen Blick auf Amsterdam hat.
Weiter geht die Fahrt vorbei am Tropenmuseum zur Hermitage. Das Museum, eine Außenstelle der Eremitage St. Petersburg wurde 2009 von Königin Beatrix und dem russischen Präsidenten Medwedew eröffnet.
Vorbei am Rathaus geht es dann zurück zum Anleger am Hauptbahnhof.

This video is a city guide and city tour of Rotterdam. You'll see my top 5 highlights of one of the most modern cities in Europe.
Above all, Rotterdam is a city with vision. It was very nearly completely destroyed during World War II and chose to see the devastating loss as an opportunity to innovate and build anew. The city was a blank slate for architects and artists. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes of war, this Dutch city has become a city of the future. Rotterdam is a centre for design, art, architecture, and sustainability. Locals joke that you should take a photo of the skyline today because it won't be the same tomorrow.
The Floating Forest is a great symbol of all that Rotterdam cultivates and inspires. It's an art installation of twenty live trees floating in the harbour. Rotterdam has the largest harbour in Europe and you can't talk about the city without reference to the water. The trees are recycled from the city's 'tree bank.' With all the new construction, trees are sometimes cut down in the march of progress. Now, instead of being chopped, they are moved to a tree bank for further use and enjoyment. The trees float in recycled sea buoys that are filled with fresh water to sustain the trees. The artist, Jorge Bakker, hopes the public art will get people talking about the relationship between the city dweller and nature. In this time of climate change and urbanization, this is relevant not only to Rotterdam but the entire world.
The Erasmus Bridge - Erasmusbrug, in Dutch - is the graceful link between northern and southern Rotterdam. Locals adore this steel-cabled suspension bridge and lovingly refer to it as 'the swan.'
Nearby the bridge, and across from the Fenix Food Factory, is Hotel New York. This is the former head office of the Holland America Line - the first shipping and passenger ship connecting the Netherlands and the United States. It was also the first connection between the two continents.
The newest architectural gem of Rotterdam is the Market Hall (Markthal). It's the first covered market in the Netherlands and is a masterful example of innovative multi-use space. Inside you'll find food vendors, shops, restaurants, parking for 1200 cars and over 200 residential apartments. The exterior is plain grey stone so as to draw attention to the interior which is dominated by the massive painting on the ceiling. Covering 11,000 square metres, it's the largest painting in the world and is known as the Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.
Just across from the Markthal are the world-famous, iconic cube houses. Conceived and designed in the 1970s to solve the dilemma of housing above a pedestrian bridge, these atypical homes show, again, how Rotterdam answers limitation with innovation. The cube houses are meant to represent an abstract forest and are tilted at an angle that gives excellent views of the surrounding area. Ironically, however, because of the slanted walls and ceilings, only a quarter of the interior space is actually usable.

Amsterdam Museum
Housed in a former orphanage that dates from 1524, the museum is filled with paintings, prints and archaeological finds that illustrate how Amsterdam grew from a small medieval town into a modern city. The entrance fee to the museum includes access to a glass-roofed 'street' lined with 15 massive group portraits of the Amsterdam Civic Guards. Just below the museum is the Begijnhof, a peaceful enclosed square ringed by brick houses dating from as early as the 14th century. It traditionally housed the Beguines, unmarried Catholic women who wanted to serve God but chose not to become nuns.

Rijksmuseum
After a £375 million, 10-year-long renovation project, the largest and most popular museum in the Netherlands reopens on 13 April 2013. Established in 1885, the museum showcases a collection of masterpieces with the seminal works of Dutch giants Rembrandt (The Night Watch) and Johannes Vermeer (The Milk Maid). The artwork spanning over 8,000 works has been reorganised across three floors in chronological order with clever use of lighting and space, showcases made with non-reflecting glass and muted grey walls to minimise distraction from the galleries. Restored to its former glory with modern aesthetics, this surely ranks as one of the world's greatest museums.

Anne Frank Huis (Anne Frank House)
The small, but highly, popular Anne Frank House annually attracts up to 1 million visitors per year; expect lengthy queues. It is the historic home where Anne Frank, her family and four other Jewish people hid from the occupying Germans during WWII, after fleeing their native Germany. Finally caught by the Nazis after two years in hiding, they were taken off to concentration camps, where Anne eventually died. However, her father survived and published her diary, which takes pride of place here.

There are also a wide range of temporary exhibitions, as well as a section on the heritage of the historic home of the museum itself.
