Our visit Bishkek travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and the city by day. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Bishkek tourism brochure or Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan city tour.
15 things to do in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Greetings from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan! Hello from Central Asia. It is our first time here and we are going to be spending a few days here in the capital. So we're going to take you on a little tour and show you fifteen things to do around Bishkek.
First up, we visited Ala-Too Square, which is the central plaza in Bishkek. While there isn’t much to do here, it’s one of the city’s major landmarks, plus they also have lots of benches and water fountains where you can take a quick break. From there, we crossed the street and made our way over to the State Historical Museum.
Another place you’ll want to visit in Bishkek is the Osh Bazaar. It may not be the biggest in Central Asia, but it’s a bustling maze where you could easily spend a few hours. We had no problems at the market, but we were warned by several locals to ignore the fake police who may ask to see documents and camera permits. So keep that in mind if you encounter them!
It is shopping time. Next up we're at the Osh bazaar and you can find everything here. We're seen fresh produce, snacks, chocolates, clothes. Right behind me we have an entire aisle dedicated to dry cheese balls.
Directly across from the abandoned casino, you’ll find Victory monument which was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of World War 2. The three curved arcs represent a yurt, and the sculpture of a woman standing near the eternal flame is meant to symbolize her waiting for her husband and sons to return from the war.
We missed the start of opera and ballet season by just a few days, however, if you’re in the city at the right time.
And if you’re craving a short escape from Bishkek, you can always plan a day hike to the nearby mountains with the Trekking Union.
As far as food goes, there’s plenty to sample ranging from grilled meats to dumplings, and noodles to mixed rice, plus there was one drink that really left an impression on us.
With our time in Bishkek winding down, we made a visit to Oak Park which is full of sculptures, and then we also visited nearby Panfilov Park.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bishkek. As you can probably tell from this video, this city is the kind of place that you experience as opposed to ticking off attractions, so it ended up being a fairly relaxing trip after a few busy weeks of travel around Kyrgyzstan. As always, if you have any suggestions of things to do in Bishkek, feel free to share your tips with fellow travellers in the comments section below. See you next time!

Kyrgyzstan (Things to do - Places to Visit) - KYRGYZSTAN Top Tourist Places
A Country in Central Asia
Kyrgyzstan is a rugged Central Asian country along the Silk Road, the ancient trade route between China and the Mediterranean.
The Tian Shan mountains, which surround the old caravan route and dominate the country, are home to snow leopards, lynx, and sheep. In the south, the millennia-old city of Osh has a huge, busy bazaar that was once a stop on the Silk Road.

First World Traveller heads to Bishkek, which is the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan is located in Central Asia, bordering Kazakhstan to the North, China to the East, the other Stans (Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan) to the west and Afghanistan to the south (although not bordering).
Kyrgyzstan is a brilliantly diverse country, with influences from India, China, Russia, the Middle East and more. This video details a trip to Osh Bazaar in Bishkek, which is typical of Kyrgyz bazaars, selling clothing, souvenirs and most interestingly, Kyrgyz food, from Besbarmaq, Boorsoq, Kyrgyz Naan, Plov and more.
Also, check out the food area of Osh Bazaar, including local fruit & vegetables, flour, rice, dried fruit & nuts and spices, which together result in an amazing aroma and a great introduction to Kyrgyzstan!

The World's Coolest Unknown City? Bishkek Travel Vlog
On this episode, I explore Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, a place I knew nothing about until today.
My photos of Bishkek are on Instagram at @brendanvanson.
It's amazing how certain places in the world just seem to hide away. And, I guess, a lot of that has to do with the fact that some of them are just a long ways away from everything else. I think that must be the case of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The city is basically in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a few other Central Asian cities that too go largely unnoticed by the world. But, the fact that the city is fairly unknown doesn't mean it's not worthy.
Within a couple minutes of wandering around Bishkek today I knew that it was special. It's kind of trendy, hip, and friendly. The cafe I went to was fantastic. It felt like a place you might find somewhere in Southeast Asia - without the cheesy cat cafe theme. The staff was friendly, and if it wasn't for a bit of rain, it would have been the perfect way to spend the afternoon.
After hiding from that bit of Kyrgyz rain, I headed out to explore some of the sights around Bishkek. I was really impressed with the amount of parks and plazas around the city. There were so many green and social places dotted around the core making Bishkek an extremely green urban space.
And, the architecture too was really cool.
Late in the afternoon, I headed to Osh Bazaar, one of the oldest markets in Central Asia. It was really cool, but I got there a bit late so missed out on a lot of the action. I also found out that Kyrgyz people are extremely shy. Trying to get portraits proved to be a bit of a mission.
So, I headed back to the main square to shoot photography at sunset. I was blessed with just some killer light as the skies over Kyrgyzstan just lit up.
I had a lot of fun shooting photography at the plaza and think I came away with some pretty cool images. Again, I think Bishkek might be one of the coolest unknown cities in the world. The term off the beaten path if far too overused these days, but this is one of those great off the beaten path destination.
Tomorrow, the Kyrgyzstan travel vlog heads towards the countryside and out of Bishkek.

15 Things to do in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan Travel Guide video transcript:
Hey guys this week we are in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan. Yeah, so Karakol (Каракол) is a place that we've actually visited last year but we were only here on a day trip so we didn't get to see a whole lot. Right and this is basically the adventure capital of Kyrgyzstan. There is a lot of good hiking, you can take boat trips. So we're just going to show you like what you can do in and around this area. Let's
Our first stop was the Dungan Mosque. This mosque is unique because architecturally it looks a lot like a Buddhist temple; this is because it was built by the Dungan community, an ethnically Chinese people group who follow Islam.
Another iconic place of worship in Karakol (Каракол) is the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church. This is a traditional Russian wooden cathedral complete with onion domes.
We also squeezed in a quick visit to Karakol’s History Museum, which has a rather fascinating taxidermy collection.
Okay so it is dinner time here in Karakol (قاراقول) and the sun has gone down and today we are going to be doing a traditional meal with a family.
So we're going to be preparing Ashlyanfu (Ашлян-фу) which is a cold noodle starch soup and then we're going to go into their home and have a nice family dinner together.
And because we love our food, we also took a cooking class where we learned to make a traditional Uyghur dish: laghman (Лагман).
As far as day trips go, one nearby attraction from Karakol (Каракол) is Jeti Oguz known for its red hills. It’s about a 30 minute drive and you can easily hire a driver to take you out there.
Last but not least, one of the most popular things to do in Karakol (Каракол) is hiking. This is considered the adventure capital of Kyrgyzstan (Киргизия) with many hikes and horse treks starting right in town.
And that’s a little taste of what Karakol and the surrounding area has to offer visitors. We hope you enjoyed this travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do in Karakol (Каракол).
