Thessaloniki Beaches - Top 7 Best Beaches
Our Top 7 #Thessaloniki Beaches judged by distance from Thessaloniki, beach bars, sea quality & parking availability.
Distance from Thessaloniki - How far away it is and how easy it is to get to. Realistically the only beach you can get to without a car is Perea. If you are in Thessaloniki you can get to Perea by boat, takes around 50 minutes each way. You can do the bus but it takes around 1.5 hours and the buses can be super packed. Car is the best choice for all of the other beaches.
Beach Bars - How many, how much choice, only one is a bit dodgy, maybe you don't like the music! Presentation of the beach bars that are there also effects the score a little.
Sea quality - The reputation of the sea, ie how clean it is, I personally I would swim in every single beach in the list but I add the local opinion. Also includes the sea bed, ie if it is rocky, or sandy. If the beach has some rocks it gets a small downgrade in score.
Parking availability - This video was filmed in May 2019. Things are still quite, in June July August if you are going to these beaches on a weekend parking can become an issue. The rating I give reflect how long I think it will take you to find parking when you get there. Quality of the car park has a small effect on the score.

Thessaloniki, Greece - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Thessaloniki
Top best places to visit in Thessaloniki, Greece
Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of the region of Central Macedonia.
Thessaloniki has been dubbed as The Co-Capital, a reference to its historical status as the co-reigning city of the Byzantine Empire.
Aristotelous Square is the biggest plaza and the most central point of the city and it is located on the city’s waterfront.
Picturesque promenade is spanning for about 4.5 km and, during summer, is full of Thessalonians enjoying a lively atmosphere.
From the Aristotelous Square starts the main pedestrian mall of the city, the Aristotelous Street.
It leads to ancient Roman-era ruins, which there are many in the city. The most important are:
The Roman Forum.
The Rotunda of Galerius, the oldest church of the city and one of the oldest Christian churches in the world.
The Arch of Galerius, a monumental structure built to celebrate the victory over Persians.
The Palace of Galerius, one of the most impressive constructions and the heart of the roman city.
And the city’s most famous landmark, the White Tower, nowadays a history museum.
From the top of the tower is a nice 360-degree view of the city.
Visitors in Thessaloniki have the opportunity to admire a unique architecture and well-preserved Byzantine temples, such as:
The Hagia Sophia Cathedral, the largest basilica in the city.
The Metropolitan Orthodox Church, one of the most beautiful churches consecrated to St Gregory Palamas.
And the Church of St Demetrius, the main sanctuary dedicated to the patron saint of Thessaloniki.
There are numerous other fascinating spots around town worth a visit, like:
The OTE Tower, a 76-meter-tall construction.
Located next to it the Museum of Contemporary Art.
The Archaeological Museum, that holds artifacts from prehistoric times to late antiquity.
The National Theatre, a great acting school and a dance playhouse.
And the Royal Theater, that always shows excellent dramas.
But maybe the most interesting place is the Ano Poli, the former Ottoman quarter located north of the city center.
Literally called the Upper Town houses sites which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List, such as:
The Church of Hosios David.
The Vlatades Monastery, the only active priory, out of 20, in this quarter.
And the City Walls, the remains of fortifications surrounding the city from the early Byzantine period until the late 19th century.
But most people come here just for wonderful views of the city.

Perea, Thessaloniki, Zentralmakedonien - Greece HD Travel Channel
Perea, a suburb of Thessaloniki, is located approx. 17 kilometers southeast of the city center on the coast of the Thermaic Gulf in Central Macedonia.
Perea is the ideal place to relax after the long car ride to Greece. We have chosen the land route via Belgrade and did not, as usual after the Balkan Wars, take the ferry to Igoumenitsa, because we wanted to save our dog a steel cage on the ship.
With the seafront and many tavernas, Peréa invites to beautiful sunsets in the evening. The silhouette of Thessaloniki is already recognizable on the opposite side of the bay.

Thessaloniki, Greece's Cultural Capital
Thessaloniki, often referred to internationally as Salonica, is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of the geographic region of Greek Macedonia. It is a city with a continuous 3,000 year history, preserving relics of its Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman past and of its formerly dominant Jewish population. Its Byzantine churches, in particular, are included in UNESCO's World Heritage list.
Thessaloniki is Greece's second major economic, industrial, commercial and political centre, and a major transportation hub for the rest of southeastern Europe; its commercial port is also of great importance for Greece and the southeastern European hinterland. The city is renowned for its festivals, events and vibrant cultural life in general, and is considered to be Greece's cultural capital. Events such as the Thessaloniki International Trade Fair and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival are held annually, while the city also hosts the largest bi-annual meeting of the Greek diaspora.
Founded in 315 BC by Cassander of Macedon, Thessaloniki's history spans some 2,300 years. An important metropolis by the Roman period, Thessaloniki was the second largest and wealthiest city of the Byzantine Empire. Thessaloniki is home to numerous notable Byzantine monuments, including the Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as several Roman, Ottoman and Sephardic Jewish structures. The city's main university, Aristotle University, is the largest in Greece and the Balkans.
Thessaloniki is a popular tourist destination in Greece. In 2010, Lonely Planet ranked Thessaloniki as the world's fifth-best party city worldwide, comparable to other cities such as Dubai and Montreal. For 2013 National Geographic Magazine included Thessaloniki in its top tourist destinations worldwide.
