Banff National Park, Jasper and the Icefields Parkway in Spring - Rving to Alaska | Go North Ep. 6
We are RVing to Alaska and this episode follows our journey from Lake Louise, through Banff national park, Skiing at Banff Sunshine, Hiking Jhonston Canyon, Driving the Icefields Parkway, visiting Athabasca Glaicer and falls and eventually making it to Jasper. We then visit Maligne lake and head further up the highway with a little awning incident on our way to Grand Prarie to restock. Finally we make it to the start of the Alaska highway in Dawson Creek!

After a spring visit to Lake Louise we headed a little ways south to the town of Banff to check it out and explore the area. We had a great time, hiking, biking and skiing all within two days. Afterwards we headed up the icefields parkway with some amazing stops along the way. Johnston canyon was a bit of a drive off the main highway but was so worth the hike. Because it was still early spring many of the trails and even parking areas were closed due to snow but we enjoyed a few great views along the way. The Athbasca glacier was an amazing site and a good overnight stop as they have a parking area just for RVs. This year there was construction at the main campground in Jasper so there are limited options, but we found a site at Snaring river overflow that had just opened the day we got there. Our drive the Maligne lake was beautiful as well, but like most of the other lakes we tried to visit it was still frozen over. The final leg of this adventure took us through Grand Cache up to Grand Prarie to restock on food, fuel water and get a few other things we needed before leaving a larger city.

La Rochelle is a coastal city in southwestern France and capital of the Charente-Maritime department. It's been a center for fishing and trade since the 12th century, a maritime tradition that's reflected in its Vieux Port (old harbor) and huge, modern Les Minimes marina. The old town has half-timbered medieval houses and Renaissance architecture, including passageways covered by 17th-century arches.
Known as La Ville Blanche (the White City), La Rochelle's luminous limestone façades glow in the bright coastal sunlight. One of France's foremost seaports from the 14th to 17th centuries, the city has arcaded walkways, half-timbered houses (protected from the salt air by slate tiles), ghoulish gargoyles and a fabulous collection of lighthouses – all rich reminders of its magnificent seafaring heritage. The early French settlers of Canada, including the founders of Montreal, set sail from here in the 17th century.
This 'white city' is also commendably green, with innovative public transport, open spaces and plenty of activities and attractions for families visiting with children. La Rochelle's late-20th-century district of Les Minimes was built on reclaimed land, and now has one of the largest marinas in the country. Unlike the Med with its motor cruisers, the 3500 moorings here are mostly used by yachts, which fill the harbour with billowing spinnakers.
The Old Port (Vieux Port) is the oldest and most picturesque part of La Rochelle, dominated by its defensive towers. If a party of enormous chess pieces came down to the seaside and got tipsy, they would resemble these 14th / 15th C towers. Tour de la Chaine and Tour St Nicholas lean over the narrow harbour entrance: a stout chain was raised between them to keep out trouble (often English). A rampart stretches west to Tour de la Lanterne, the former lighthouse.
Musée du Nouveau Monde (New World Museum) housed in the old Fleuriau Hotel, depicts La Rochelle's relationship with the Americas, especially Maritime Canada and the French Caribbean. Port des Minimes is one of the biggest pleasure boat marinas in Europe: mostly yachts not motorboats. Also, visit the nearby beach.
Musée Maritime (Maritime Museum), Place Bernard Moitessier and Aquarium de La Rochelle (La Rochelle Aquarium), Quai Louis Prunier (near railway station just south of old port). Île de Ré resort island is accessed along Route D735 via a 2 km long toll-bridge. The toll to get onto the island is €16 per car in summer and €8 in winter, free on foot or with a bike; there's no return toll. The road runs through La Flotte to the main settlement of St Martin de Ré, which has a charming port (UNESCO Heritage Site) fortified by Vauban. Most buses terminate here. The road straggles on for another 20 km to Les Portes-en-Ré.
Situated near the Old Port, you can buy fresh products every morning in the central covered Market. On Wednesday and Saturdays (and during most of the summer), you will see all of the streets surounding the main area covered in stands occupied by local farmers selling their products. You will find dozens of restaurants surrounding this hot spot, and from the market, you can go in direction of the Place de Verdun or the Old Port and will walk by the main shopping streets of La Rochelle. The sector of Les Minimes is where you will find most activities that are not specifically targeted to tourists, such as bowling, movie theaters, etc.

Bong Voyage- Quebec Ep 3- Rotten Cheeses at Rawdon Falls

Bong Voyage is a series which chronicles my travels around the world in a pursuit to seek out the most beautiful and inspiring places, in cannabis-friendly locations (mostly).
We begin this journey with our own backyard, the province of Quebec where our natural beauty is reflected in our slogan La Belle Province which translates to The Beautiful Province. So diverse and unique, you will definitely remember, as our poorly translated official motto points out, Je me souviens!

On this episode, we visit one of the most famous watering holes close to the city. If you're an immigrant, your parents probably brought you there as a youngster, it's sort of a rite of passage in becoming a Canadian. For those who are not familiar, I'm talking about Rawdon.
Park des cascades is the main attraction and it is quite a unique place with big rocky outcrops which allow smaller rivers and waterfalls to flow through them creating natural jacuzzis, perfect for hanging out in. The vibe is super laid back, and it does get hectic sometimes and now, they even have a convenient store that blasts reggeaton all day on their outdoor speakers.

If it gets too crowded, you can always drive a couple of minute down the street to the all mighty Dorwin Falls, where the vibe is much more relaxing and quiet. Here are the coordinates:
Swimming is forbidden on the upper level of the falls so it's more of a place to go hang out and soak in the beautiful natural surroundings.
Your day pass gives you access to both Dorwin Falls and Parc Des Cascades as well as the municipal sandy beach which we did not explore on this episode because it's not nearly as cool and beautiful as the other locations.
We also tried some local products which turned out to be a letdown, kind of what is happening with the legal cannabis market here in Canada.
