INSIDE THE CHERNOBYL EXCLUSION ZONE: The World's Worst Nuclear Disaster
Chernobyl is the site of the world's worst nuclear disaster and still one of the most radioactive places on Earth. I was able to visit there as a tourist and see first hand the abandoned towns in the exclusion zone, as well as the actual reactor #4. This is one of the most eye opening and sobering experiences in all of my travels, so I hope you guys enjoy it.

PRIPYAT GHOST TOWN & CHERNOBYL NUCLEAR POWER PLANT | Discovering Pripyat -
Welcome to a special feature length edition of First World Traveller, effectively my Chernobyl documentary, as I visit the ghost town of PRIPYAT and the CHERNOBYL Nuclear Power Plant close to Kiev, Ukraine. You may have seen the Chernobyl Diaries - this is my real life version!
The Chernobyl disaster occurred in April 1986 during a routine test at the nuclear power plant. The resulting explosion and radioactivity culminated in the evacuation of 49000 people from the town of Pripyat.
Pripyat remains abandoned due to the radiation levels. In this video I visit the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and numerous buildings in Pripyat, from the famous Pripyat Amusement Park to the Pripyat swimming pool and many more.
The tour was booked through Chernobylwel.com, based in Kiev, Ukraine. Learn about the history of Pripyat, see Pripyat before the disaster and see Chernobyl today including the magnificent new sarcophagus, built to contain the high levels of radiation.
SAFETY -
In this video you will see me use a Geiger counter (or dosimeter), which measures the level of radiation. I would like to clarify that the tour takes you to places where the radiation levels are at an acceptable level - you will be exposed to more radiation during an X-ray or long haul flight!
Additionally, it's important you do not place any camera equipment on the ground (or any bags), and do not sit on anything due to the radiation levels. DO NOT take aythhing from the sight, including leaves/stones etc. All of this and more will be explained on your tour. You CANNOT enter THE Chernobyl exclusion zone WITHOUT A GUIDE.
Finally, you will be scanned for radiation levels each time you leave the area. DO NOT take photos or videos of guards etc.

Nearly twenty years after the Chernobyl disaster, the region is starting to get back to normal. It even has it's own burgeoning tourist industry.
The InterInform Hotel in Pripyat may not be five star, but it is booked solid for much of the year. The Japanese joke it is the Chernobyl Hilton, laughs tour guide Rimma. Hundreds of curious holidaymakers are keen to visit the site of the world's worst nuclear disaster. The region also receives around 2,000 aid visits a year. It's boom time for those prepared to work here. Tour prices to Chernobyl have recently increased fourfold. I came here to earn money, states the owner of a small guesthouse. I told my doctor I wasn't afraid. I think a little radiation is good for you. With radiation levels in some places still dangerously high, tour guide Rimma always keeps a Geiger counter close by. Like many of the workers, she works two weeks in Chernobyl and then spends two weeks in the countryside to recover. Many consider the idea of exploiting such a massive disaster jarring, but there are plenty willing to capitalise on this new found success.

5. Starkenberger Brewery’s Beer Pools, Austria
There may be a lot of breweries scattered throughout Europe, but Starkenberger Brewery is the only one that lets visitors swim in the beer. Seven 13-foot swimming pools, each filled with 42,000 pints of beer, are available to travelers.
6. Museum of Broken Relationships, Croatia
The concept behind Zagreb’s Museum of Broken Relationships proved so intriguing that it has inspired sister branches in Los Angeles and Tokyo. The strange little collection showcases the mementos of relationships that have imploded.
7. Portugal dos Pequenitos, Portugal
Opened in 1940, Portugal dos Pequenitos is precisely what its name translates to: Little Ones. Everything from the country’s most famous monuments to traditional Portuguese homes has been recreated in miniature, so visitors can see everything Portugal has to offer without actually taking the time to visit every attraction.
8. Mundaneum, Belgium
Beginning in 1910, Otlet and Nobel Peace Prize winner Henri LaFontaine started collecting every piece of knowledge available to humanity and then recording it on an index card, resulting in 12 million perfectly sorted cards of information across every conceivable academic discipline.
9. Pripyat, Ukraine
Afetr the worst nuclear disaster in human history, the 49,000 people who lived in Pripyat, were forced to evacuate and then unable to return for years. Now they are losing the fight against nature. If spooky ghost towns are your deal, you cannot do better than Pripyat.
10. The Nose Academy, Sweden
It keeps 100 meticulously arranged plaster casts of Scandinavian noses. From famous people you probably wouldn’t recognize to non-famous people, the Nose Museum is indeed worth the trip. Okay, it’s only worth the trip because of its weird factor.
