Places to see in ( Girona - Spain ) Ripoll
Ripoll is the capital of the comarca of Ripollès, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It is located on confluence of the Ter River and its tributary Freser, next to the Pyrenees near the French border. The population was 11,057 in 2009.
The first traces of humans inhabiting the area date from the Bronze Age and can be seen in form of dolmens such as those found in El Sot de Dones Mortes or in Pardinella. This area was later used by peoples from the Atlantic culture to store bronze weapons and as a passway from the Catalan Central Depression to the Pyrenees. The area also has tombs from the late Roman occupation age and some belonging to the Visigoths.
It has a famous Benedictine monastery built in the Romanesque style, Santa Maria de Ripoll, founded by the count Wilfred the Hairy in 879. The count used it as a centre to repopulate the region after conquering it. In the High Middle Ages, its castle, the Castle of Saguardia, located in the county of Les Llosses was ruled by the Saguàrdia family, of which Ponç de la Guàrdia was a famous troubadour.
An abundance of coal and iron ore, coupled with the ample water supply of the rivers Ter and Freser, encouraged a metal-working industry in the early Middle Ages. The furnaces of Ripoll were a prime source of nails for the peninsula. Later, pole arms and crossbows, always in demand, were added to Ripoll’s exports. Ripoll enjoyed a reputation throughout Europe for the production of firearms. That success as a manufactory of firearms brought frequent trouble to the city. French invasions in 1794, 1809, 1812, and 1813 crippled the city industries. However, the final and utter destruction of Ripoll, resulting from mines and blasting, occurred in 1839 during the Carlist Wars. Due to the loss of records and archives, not much is known of Ripoll and its industry to this day.

Los Pueblos Negros de Guadalajara. Guarda el secreto... (escapada otoño 2017)
Hola disfrutones!
Este fin de semana nos acercamos al norte de Guadalajara a conocer sus todavía poco conocidos PUEBLOS NEGROS.
Se trata de una zona muy concreta en la que se concentran no más de 10 pueblos espectacularmente bonitos y todos con la misma característica: sus casas se hicieron con piedra de pizarra, muy abundante en esa zona, y de ahí el color negro. Técnicamente se llama arquitectura negra y la verdad es que da un toque precioso a los pueblecitos. Están además muy bien conservados y se nota que vive gente. Están relativamente cerca de Madrid (menos de 2 horas) y hay bastante turismo de fin de semana. Aún así, guardemos el secreto porque cuando esta zona se conozca más y se masifique ya no será lo mismo...
Visitamos todos los pueblos de esa carretera, Galve de Sobre y su castillo, el pueblo abandonado de Umbralejo, Valverde de los Arroyos (muy orgullosos de su premio como uno de los pueblos más bonitos de España), Almiruete, Tamajón y su pequeña Ciudad Encantada... y luego subimos de nuevo al norte por la carretera GU-186, que abre en dos la zona.
En esta segunda fase vimos Campillejo, El Espinar, y dos de las joyas de la corona de la arquitectura negra: Campillo de Ranas y Majaelrayo. ¡Qué bonitos! Desde ambos se divisa el Pico del Ocejón, uno de los montes más altos de Guadalajara.
Comimos en Campillo de Ranas, en el restaurante La Fragua. Tienen una carta reducida pero con contundentes y muy ricos platos de la región. Como ese día hacía fresquito qué bien entraron la sopa castellana y las migas!
Majaelrayo es otra maravilla de pueblo. Ideal para moteros, ya que la carretera es muy bonita, bien asfaltada y en la entrada del pueblo hay un bar con terraza estupendo para tomar un pincho y seguir la ruta.
Al día siguiente nos dimos un paseo por el pinar de Condemios de Arriba. Es muy bonito, muy agradable para hacer con niños y muy curioso porque hay varias figuras de madera escondidas durante el paseo. Por lo visto lo hicieron 4 mozos de la zona con una motosierra. Ole por ellos!
Terminamos la excursión en Marchamalo, un pueblito a las afueras de Madrid, donde comimos en un restaurante exquisito: Las Llaves.

Guadalajara is the 10th largest city in Latin America in terms of population, urban area and Gross Domestic Product. The city is named after the Spanish city of Guadalajara, with the name originating from the Arabic word wād al-ḥaŷara (واد الحجارة or وادي الحجارة) the literal translation of the Iberian name Arriaca, meaning stony river.
In a 2007 research of the fDi magazine Guadalajara was the highest ranking major Mexican city having the second strongest economic potential of any major North American city and only Chicago scored more highly for sheer economic potential, in the same research was considered the city of the future due to its youthful population, low unemployment and large number of recent foreign investment deals, it was also found the third most business friendly city in North America.
