Table Mountain is Cape Town’s most beloved landmark. From the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, take a walking trail up the mountain, or take the Cableway for the spectacular ride to the viewing area.
Cape Town is one of the world’s great beach cities. From Green Point, the site of Cape Town’s futuristic stadium, follow the coast and discover one incredible beach after another.
Cape Town’s riches don’t end with its beaches, it’s also blessed with some of the best wine country in the world. After touring the acclaimed wineries of Paarl and Stellenbosch, head up Franschhoek Pass and wander hillsides filled with Proteas.
In local tradition, the Protea represents transformation, courage and hope. Cape Town is a city which shares the same soil, so it’s not surprising that it embodies those same qualities too.

Why Amsterdam Is The Jeans Capital Of The World - When I visited Amsterdam, I didn't expect to find the denim capital of the world. I never associated this city with jeans until I stumbled across a place called Denim City and discovered how they are innovating the denim industry around the world.
I was exploring the Amsterdam neighbourhood of Oud West (watch the full video here: and wandering around De Hallen, a converted tram depot that’s now a multi-use space. I saw a huge store with rows of sewing machines and gigantic rolls of denim filling a tall wall. I went inside and a lovely man named Joos introduced himself and I had so many questions that he offered to give us a tour.
Denim City was started by a not-for-profit foundation called House of Denim that is dedicated to transforming the entire denim industry for the future. Their aim is to make the process of producing jeans more sustainable, innovative, and collaborative. It’s all perfectly summed up by their mission statement: ‘Towards A Brighter Blue.’ I love it. They’re trying to reduce the environmental impact of making denim. Jeans are popular all over the world and House of Denim is trying things like making jeans using recycled plastic bottles: good for the planet and good for fashion.
Denim City is also home to the only Jeans School in the world. They offer a three year program to develop young talent and it’s the only independent education facility that’s totally dedicated to denim. They even have a loom where you can see how individual pieces of thread are woven together to create the denim fabric. I’ve never seen jeans in that early stage before and it was really cool to see.
Our tour also included seeing the Indigo Archive. The idea is that every industry has certain pieces or collections that are of particular importance for education or inspiration so Denim City is collecting them in one place. In tribute to the father of denim, Levi Strauss, they will eventually have an archive of 501 denim garments to symbolize Levi’s iconic 501 jeans.
One of the most interesting things Joos showed us is the Blue Lab - a part of Denim City devoted to laundry. It’s the important process that gives jeans a specific wash/colour and feel. Laundry nowadays is super high tech and these Amsterdam laundry facilities are changing the industry. We even got to see how stone washed jeans are made. I didn’t realize the term literally means the jeans are washed with stones! Did you?
