One small step for man - The Beagle
In September 2009 the clipper ‘Stad Amsterdam’ set sail to circumnavigate the earth, repeating the most important journey ever made. Far more important than man’s voyage to the moon. It is a voyage that took the young naturalist Charles Darwin five years 179 years ago, and the passengers of the clipper eight months. Darwin’s travels changed our ideas of time, space, chance, sex and nature. What a privilege to be able to do them all over again! All the beauty and profusion in a world full of wondrous forms.
Darwin’s granddaughter, Sarah Darwin, and British author Redmond O’Hanlon will be repeating this journey. To them, it is a chance of several lifetimes.
And now? Now we will look at the state the world is in - and what possible consequences this could have for our future. With this in mind different scientists and artists have been invited aboard at different stages of the journey.

This voyage was the most important journey ever made. Hundreds of thousands of birds, dolphins all coming racing to the ship. Plancton coming in from the plankton recorder, enormous tracks of the megatherium. The Galapagos was a paradise. It’s just the strangest most wonderful feeling to walk amongst these animals and birds and not feel an intruder. They like you, they don’t mind. It’s all just too special for words. An unforgettable experience for the passengers of the ship – and for viewers of the programme.

Erdogan builds thousands of dams, why? - In Turkey
The Turkish economy is growing fast, too fast. But how does a country grow without oil, without gas? More than two thousand dams are currently under construction to match the need for energy. Green energy, though. But the areas where these dams are being built are paying a high price. We travel to a drowned village that disappeared under the water of a dam: only the minaret is left to see. How does a community deal with this loss? And why does the government continue to plan new dams, even though studies show that the dams do not produce nearly as much energy as promised. Does it have anything to do with the neighboring countries such as Iraq and Syria, which are dependent on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers originating in Turkey and that are now fully built with dams?

In this seven-part series Bram Vermeulen travels through Turkey - From Istanbul to the sparsely populated mountains in the east; from the closed borders of Armenia to the open southern borders shared with neighboring Arab countries - observing the rapid changes in a country that has a renewed fresh confidence.
In Turkey, was awarded the Special Award Discourse and Politics at the Erasmus EuroMedia Awards 2011 in Vienna.

The last Yagan Indian - The Beagle
We all love fish, but we are running the risk of seeing them go extinct. Could extending the fishing limits to the center of every ocean solve the problem?
The Yagan Indians were killed off by good intentions: with the missionaries came lethal diseases from the civilized world. And then later the genocidal European settlers arrived. We visit the last full-blooded Yagan Indian in Tierra del Fuego, before sailing on through the notorious waters of Cape Horn, where the Beagle was very nearly ship+wrecked.
