East West Communities- Celebrating 40 years of Creating Virginia's Best Places to Live & Play
Since 1972, East West Communities has been developing award-winning communities and resorts in seven states across America. The success story started when the original partners were a group of young real estate professionals working for one of the nation's premier resort developers, Sea Pines Company on Hilton Head Island. The company purchased land outside Richmond, Virginia, with unprecedented plans of building a community that would offer a vacation lifestyle for everyday living. The first community, Brandermill, became home to 4,400 families and was named the Best Planned Community in America in 1977 by Better Homes and Gardens Magazine and the National Association of Homebuilders. The second community, Woodlake, also near Richmond, was chosen Best Planned Community in America by the 14,000 members of Urban Land Institute (ULI) in 1990.
In the mid-1980s, East West expanded into the Hampton Roads region of Virginia with the Gatling Pointe community near Smithfield. Gatling Pointe set the benchmark for community development in the area, and was a three-time Community of the Year recipient from the Peninsula Housing & Builders Association. The Riverfront, the developer's second masterplanned community in Hampton Roads, continued to raise the bar in community development for the region and has received numerous accolades and awards. Soon after The Riverfront, East West opened Eagle Harbor and Founders Pointe, both in Isle of Wight County -- and both receiving multiple Community of the Year awards from the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association. Riverwatch is another environmentally sensitive riverfront property bordering the Piankatank River in Gloucester, Virginia -- and the newest community, Liberty Ridge in Williamsburg, with its Grand Opening of its first two models in the Spring of 2011. Liberty Ridge features custom homes on minimum 3 acre wooded homesites.

Fort Story(Cape Henry Lighthouse), First Landing State Park , VA Beach, VA, US - Part 1
Please visit for more free videos.
Fort Story Military Reservation is a facility of the U.S. Army located in the independent city of Virginia Beach, Virginia at Cape Henry.
The base includes sandy trails, cypress swamps, grassy dunes and soft and hard sand beaches.
The Cape Henry Lighthouse has long been important for the large amount of ocean-going shipping traffic for the harbors, its rivers, and shipping headed to ports on the Chesapeake Bay.
It was the first lighthouse authorized by the U.S. government, dating from 1792. It was also the first federal construction project under the Constitution.
The lighthouses are located within the boundaries of Fort Story. The Cape Henry Memorial is adjacent to the lighthouses.
The Cape Henry Lighthouses were backdrops for a scene in the 2001 movie Hearts in Atlantis, based on the 1999 Stephen King novel.
To visit the lighthouse, you must pass through the security gates of Fort Story. Please have identification including a picture with you for all visitors aged 16 years or older.
The security personnel have the right to examine your car before issuing a pass to enter the base. The guards are courteous and efficient, but please allow a few extra minutes for entry into the site.
The architectural integrity of the tower is representative of one of John McComb's best and most important constructions.
During a routine inspection in 1872 questions arose concerning the stability and safety of the lighthouse. An appropriation of $75,000 on 10 June 1878 dedicated monies to erect a new lighthouse 350 feet southeast of the old.
First Landing State Park is located on Cape Henry. This 2,888 acre park offers a wide range of activities for visitors.
You can go swimming, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, or enjoy a picnic when you visit First Landing. Regardless of how long you can stay, you can have a nice time visiting the park.
You can also stay in the park overnight, at a campsite or in one of in one of the park's cabins.
There is 1 1/4 miles of beach located along the Chesapeake Bay. First Landing's beach is open every day. There are no lifeguards, you swim at your own risk.
Historic Yanceyville | NC Weekend | UNC TV
Nestled right against the border between Virginia and North Carolina, historic Caswell County offers a bounty of colorful tales in the town of Yanceyville, NC. The most striking of these historic tales come from the town's courthouse, a beautiful piece of architecture built in the early 1800's and designed by William Percival. The courthouse held the historic trial of Henrietta Jeffries. Jeffries was born a slave, and her trial in the Yanceyville courthouse is just one of several intriguing tales of Caswell County history in this episode of NC Weekend.

Bush Mill Stream Natural Area Preserve in Heathsville, Virginia
This small preserve is a great example of an environment that was once very common all over the Chesapeake Bay region: brackish tidal marshes and mud flats where fresh water streams meet the salt water rivers that flow into the Chesapeake Bay. Bush Mill Stream is one of the major tributaries of Great Wicomico River. During America's Colonial Period, ocean going vessels were able to sail up the Great Wicomico to the mouth of Bush Mill Stream to a point known as Deep Landing. Goods like lumber and agricultural products were often transported through this port. Today, changes in water levels in Great Wicomico have made it so that ships can no longer reach Deep Landing.
The preserve is open during day light hours and can be reached and explored on foot via the Deep Landing Trail and Heron Trail. You can also explore the preserve via kayak or canoe. The preserve is located in Northumberland County, on the Northern Neck peninsula of Virginia's eastern Tidewater Region, near the town of Heathsville.
