Mt Tambourine is located 25 km inland from the Gold Coast and is often referred to as the Gold Coast hinterland or the Green behind the gold. The plateau of Tamborine Mountain is 550meters above sea level, 4 km wide and approximately 8km long. It has a subtropical climate, good rainfall, deep volcanic soils; the ideal conditions for the local flora (lush rainforests) and fauna to thrive.
The attractions of the district are the beautiful views which exist on both sides of the ranges, the number of rainforest areas with quiet streams and attractive waterfalls and the many craft and antique shops, galleries, wineries, tearooms and restaurants. Gold Coast Hinterland Rainforest Walks
We head to Purling Brook Falls located in in Springbrook National Park, the track takes you along the top of the cliffs through open forest sprinkled with cycads to the top of Tanninaba Falls. From here, you can see the Gold Coast and Purling Brook Valley.
The track leads you down 450 steps into the rainforested valley and along to spectacular Tanninaba Falls which is almost concealed within rock.
We didn't make it to the pools however a sidetrack leads one kilometre down the creek to the rainforest fringed Waringa Pool.
Our next stop was the Natural Bridge.The Natural Bridge, is a most unusual geological feature created over millions of years by water tumbling through the roof of a basalt cave. Natural Bridge is home to an amazing colony of glow-worms, whose lights can be seen only after sunset.

Skywalk - Tamborine reinforest
This exciting new Eco-Adventure offers guests a unique and thrilling way to explore the beautiful rainforest canopies. Set in a magical 30 acres of privately owned rainforest beside the crystal clear rock-pools of Cedar Creek on Mt Tamborine, Queensland, Australia.
The walk departs directly from the Eco Gallery with a comprehensive array of Australian rainforest flora and fauna displays.
The walk takes approximately 45 minutes at a leisurely pace, when pausing to view the many points of interest and information along the way.
The entire walk totals 1.5 kms and is a combination of forest floor trails, 300 metres of high-tech steel bridges through the highest points of the upper canopy, and a 40 metre cantilever bridge that soars a breathtaking 30 metres above the creek and rainforest below.
For those who venture onto the canopy walk, the adventure begins in the Rainforest Eco Gallery which has a comprehensive array of rainforest fauna and flora information and displays.
These include interpretive panels with descriptions and photos of sub-tropical rainforest wildlife, static displays and an aquarium with a variety of Australian freshwater fish.
The “Birdwing Café” serves delicious light refreshments inside or on the deck beside the rainforest, also on offer an interesting gift and souvenir shop with quality merchandise.
