Places to see in ( Piacenza - Italy )
Places to see in ( Piacenza - Italy )
Piacenza is a city in Italy’s Emilia Romagna region. In its central Piazza Cavalli are 2 equestrian statues and the medieval Gothic Palace. A copper angel rotates atop the bell tower of Piacenza Cathedral. The nearby Sant’Antonino Basilica has an 8-sided tower and 17th-century frescoes, plus a portal known as Heaven’s Gate, with a rose window. The Farnese Palazzo Civic Museums house sculptures and weapons.
Located in the centre of the Padana Valley, Piacenza is on the right bank of the river Po, only 67 Km from Milan. Along the final part of the ancient Via Emilia, the town is located in the Northernmost and Westernmost part of the Emilia region. This quiet, provincial town, easy to live in and dedicated to the pleasures of good food, is also characterised by small treasures, and memories of a historically rich past, like its Cathedral, ‘Palazzo Gotico’, ‘Palazzo Farnese’. Not to mention the wonderful noble mansions, its several churches and the narrow streets of the centre, which, though appearing severe, hide unexpected surprises. Any season is good to go to Piacenza. However, we recommend spring and autumn, when the mild climate makes walking along its streets more pleasant.
Undoubtedly, besides the two squares, ‘Piazza Duomo’ and ‘Piazza Cavalli’, the latter being the emblem of the city with the two equestrian statues by Mochi on the background of ‘Palazzo Gotico’, further sites are worth visiting : the Romanesque ‘Sant’Antonino ’ Basilica, one of the pilgrims’ stations along the Via Francigena, with its ‘Porta del Paradiso’ (Heaven’s Gate), ‘ Santa Maria di Campagna’ church which preserves, among others, frescoes by Pordenone and San Savino Basilica with the 12th century mosaics representing the cycle of the months.
Among the many places to visit in the streets of the city centre, San Sisto church, hidden from sight on purpose, is rich in frescoes, wrought iron works and 18th century decorations, while the Municipal Theatre, dedicated to Verdi and built by Lotario Tomba is like a miniature ‘Teatro alla Scala’.
Another remarkable place to visit is the beautiful ‘Palazzo Farnese’, built by Vignola, where Palazzo Farnese Municipal Museums are located; here it is possible to admire the Etruscan liver, Botticelli’s Tondo, while Alberoni Art Gallery displays the famous ‘Ecce Homo’ by Antonello da Messina.
You can’t leave Piacenza without visiting Ricci Oddi Modern Art Gallery, which offers a complete view of Italian figurative art starting from the second half of the 19th century. Besides the rich Opera and Drama season at Piacenza’s Municipal Theatre, Festival del Diritto (Law Festival) , held in September, has become a nationally important event.

Modena. Unesco World Heritage Site - Italy
Geography
Modena lies on the Pianura Padana, and is bounded by the two rivers Secchia and Panaro, both affluents of the Po River. Their presence is symbolized by the Two Rivers Fountain in the city's center, by Giuseppe Graziosi. The city is connected to the Panaro by the Naviglio channel.
The Apennines ranges begin some 10 km from the city, to the south.
The commune is divided into four circoscrizioni. These are:
* Centro storico (Historical Center, San Cataldo)
* Crocetta (San Lazzaro-East Modena, Crocetta)
* Buon Pastore (Buon Pastore, Sant'Agnese, San Damaso)
* San Faustino (S.Faustino-Saliceta San Giuliano, Madonnina-Quattro Ville)
Modena has a temperate climate. It experiences hot, humid summers with little rainfall and cold, damp wintersAncient times
The territory around Modena (Latin: Mutina, Etruscan: Muoina) was inhabited by the Villanovans in the Iron Age, and later by Ligurian tribes, Etruscans, and the Gaulish Boii (the settlement itself being Etruscan). Although the exact date of its foundation is unknown, it is known that it was already in existence in the 3rd century BC, for in 218 BC, during Hannibal's invasion of Italy, the Boii revolted and laid siege to the city. Livy described it as a fortified citadel where Roman magistrates took shelter. The outcome of the siege is not known, but the city was most likely abandoned after Hannibal's arrival. Mutina was refounded as a Roman colony in 183 BC, to be used as a military base by Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, causing the Ligurians to sack it in 177 BC. Nonetheless, it was rebuilt, and quickly became the most important centre in Cisalpine Gaul, both because of its strategic importance and because it was on an important crossroads between Via Aemilia and the road going to Verona.

Places to see in ( Olbia - Italy ) Isola Rossa
Isola Rossa is located in the north coast of Sardinia between Costa Paradiso and Castelsardo and is a fraction of Trinità d'Agultu and Vignola . At 4 km from the coast there is an island characterized by red porphyry rocks, hence the name of the village.
On the promontory where Isola Rossa stands stands a 16th century Spanish tower , part of the coastal defense system against the Saracen invasions. The village was founded as a fishing village at the beginning of the twentieth century and knows rapid development becoming a popular tourist resort. The wild nature of the coast is interrupted by beaches of fine white sand, such as Cala Canneddi , embellished with multicolored pebbles on the shore and La Marinedda a little further south, set among the red rocks of Punta Li Canneddi.
Cala Tinnari is a small pristine cove with the beach formed by the pebbles of Riu Pirastru, a river coming from Monte Tinnari, while Longa Beach is located right in the inhabited center of Isola Rossa, a long beach of pink sand and the clear sea. Slightly north to Costa Paradiso are the beaches of Li Cossi and Cala Sarraina , two suggestive coves between the pink trachyte reefs with a shallow sea of crystal clear water.
Off the town there is the homonymous small island 400 meters long and 200 meters wide. The coast is full of coves and rocky points such as Mount Tinnari , accessible with an excursion for everyone by a path through the Mediterranean. There are numerous trails for hiking and mountain biking up to Capo Testa and Santa Teresa di Gallura , to visit the fascinating views of the sea surrounded by the scents of the Mediterranean, and from the hamlet Paduledda you can get to the nuraghe Bastianazzu , or Nuraghe Paduledda.
At the marina of Isola Rossa you can rent dinghies and boats for an excursion along the coast to discover the many hidden coves, some accessible only by sea or on foot. The area lends itself to exploration for diving enthusiasts, given the rich flora and fauna of Isola Rossa and Costa Paradiso, and the practice of water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Places to see in ( Todi - Italy )
Places to see in ( Todi - Italy )
Todi is a hilltop town in Umbria, Italy. Among the medieval buildings framing the central Piazza del Popolo are the People’s Palace and the Captain’s Palace. The latter houses the Civic Museum and Gallery. Beneath the square are 2 Roman cisterns, part of a series of subterranean tunnels and wells dating from as far back as the 2nd century B.C. The facade of the centuries-old Todi Cathedral features a rose window.
Almost all Todi's main medieval monuments — the co-cathedral church (Duomo), the Palazzo del Capitano, the Palazzo del Priore and the Palazzo del Popolo — front on the main square (Piazza del Popolo) on the lower breast of the hill: the piazza is often used as a movie set. The whole landscape is sited over some huge ancient Roman cisterns, with more than 500 pits, which remained in use until 1925.
Todi Cathedral (11th century) is a Gothic edifice on the Lombard plan, said to be erected over an ancient Roman building, probably a temple dedicated to Apollo. The current church was almost totally rebuilt after a fire in 1190. The main feature of the squarish façade is the central great rose-window, added in 1513. Of the same period is the wooden door of the portal, by Antonio Bencivenni from Mercatello, of which only the four upper panels remain today.
The church follows the plan of the Latin cross, with a nave and two aisles. Bonifacio VIII allegedly had a second aisle on one side, commonly known as La navatina. The counter-façade is occupied by a giant fresco depicting the Universal Judgment by Ferraù Faenzone, called Il Faenzone, a work commissioned by Cardinal Angelo Cesi, in which the influence, if nowhere near the genius, of Michelangelo is easily discerned. The choir includes the Gothic altar and a magnificent wooden choir-enclosure (1521) with two floors. One important work of art is the 13th century Crucifixion of the Umbrian school.
The People's Palace is a Lombard-Gothic construction already existing in 1213, and is one of the most ancient communal palaces in Italy. It comprises two great halls: the Sala Grande Inferiore, or Sala delle Pietre, and the Sala Grande Superiore, housing the city's Art Gallery. The Captain's Palace, in Italian Gothic style, was built around 1293 and named New Communal Palace to differentiate it from the former one.
The Priors' Palace is located in the southern side of the Piazza, facing the Cathedral. It was begun in 1293 and later enlarged as seat of the podestà, priors and the Papal governors. The trapezoidal tower was originally lower, and had Guelph merlons. The façade includes a big bronze eagle by Giovanni di Giliaccio (1347). Located at the left of the Cathedral, the Bishop's Palace was built in 1593 by Cardinal Angelo Cesi at his own expense. His crest is visible over the great portal, attributed to Vignola. The upper floors include a room frescoed by Ferraù Fenzoni and a gallery frescoed by Andrea Polinori in 1629.
San Fortunato -The church and the sparse ruins of a medieval fortress (Rocca) lie on the other crest of the hill on which the city is built. Santa Maria della Consolazione -The domed Renaissance church of (begun in 1508), located on the flank of the city hill, just outside the walls, is often attributed, although without sufficient reason, to Bramante.
Todi is surrounded by three more or less complete concentric walls: the outermost is medieval, the middle wall is Roman, and the innermost is recognizable as partly Etruscan. Sights include also a colossal Roman niched substructure of uncertain purpose (the Nicchioni), the slight ruins of a Roman amphitheatre, about a dozen smaller churches, and a few Renaissance or classical palazzi, among which the most important is one by Vignola, round out the sights. The neighbourhood of the city has many historical castles, fortresses and ancient churches including the famous Todi Castle in Umbria which was once used for the purpose of war has now been restored by the Santoro family and is used as a vacation spot for visitors.
