STORYLINE:
Several hundred citizens of St. Petersburg gathered near the city's sports complex protesting against what they described as the 'destruction' of the city's traditional architecture under the pressure of big business.
They say new building projects projects have ignored both aesthetics and local opinion.
Public campaigns for the preservation of the classical image of one of the world's most beautiful cities have been pushed aside by the high-rise, steel-and-glass headquarters of many new Russian and foreign companies.
Among the most criticised was a new Gasprom building, in the form of glass needle visible across the city.
City authorities have frequently tried to silence protests in defence of the city's historic heritage and Saturday's protest had no official permission, although police did not interfere.
Roman Garin, an engineer and one of the protesters, said it feels like the city is under occupation.
The masters of the city can't treat their home in this manner. What is happening here is a total disgrace, he said.
Yuri Shevchuk, one of the most popular singers in Russia, who took part in the rally and who also lives in St. Petersburg, described the new buildings and the demolition of old buildings as a disgrace.

UNDERGROUND: How not to Become a Star (ENG subtitles)
Music Documentary (International version, Russian/English soundtrack with ENG subtitles)
Rock stars fill stadiums and get millions of dollars. But this is only the top of the iceberg of music. What about other musicians, unknown to the general public, who are called underground? What drives them? Hope to become rock stars? Strife for fame and fortune? Or just a getaway from the drab existence?
Over 2 years the filmmakers followed the musicians and their fans in concert halls and backstage, in music stores and studios, often with a hidden camera. The film is featuring such bands as ITEM, NU-NATION, Vergeltung, Stalwart, [AMATORY], Finntroll, Korpiklaani, KOMA, Atomica, Lowriderz and many, many others.
It is the funniest, the saddest, the most unusual and the most truthful film about musicians.
Production: Green Elephant Pictures (c) 2012
