Drone video of Laguna 69, Huascaran National Park, Huaraz, Peru - Peruvian Andes from Above
Flying over famed Laguna 69 a 3.5 hour hike at 15,158 feet (4,620 meters) in Huascaran National Park with DJI drone video. High above Lake Llanganuco lies Laguna 69, a beautiful glacial turquoise lake in the Peruvian Andes at the base of snow-coveres Chacaraju mountain and Nevado Pisco. Huascaran National Park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site is located in Huaraz, Peru.
PERU: Huaraz | Trekking Laguna 69 & Laguna Churup
After 3 weeks in Ecuador I moved on to Peru. I spent a couple days in Mancora but didn’t do any filming. From there I went to Huaraz with Maiken and Luis. We did the popular 1 day trek to Laguna 69 (elevation 4600m).
The second day Maiken and I walked from Huaraz up to a hostel in the mountain (The Hof Hostel) where we camped for the night (and froze!). The next day we hiked about 3 hours up to Laguna Churup (elevation 4450m).
ABOUT ME: After 6 months in Asia I (Ryan) decided I wanted to travel more so I flew from my home in Trinidad & Tobago to Colombia to start backpacking South America. I do these videos as a way of documenting my travels so I have something to look back on in the future. I plan to upload 1-2 videos per month. Feel free to subscribe and follow along.

After hiking the famous Laguna 69, a hike that goes up to 4600 meters in elevation, I tackled the 4-day Santa Cruz trek in Huascaran National Park outside of Huaraz, Peru.
The majority of the hike takes place over 4000 meters, and I decided to do it independently and solo for the benefit of the personal challenge. Could I handle hiking at altitude with weight on? Would it be crazy to do it solo?
I started my adventure in the scariest collectivo ride ever, then began a journey through beautiful valleys, mountains, peaks, and lagoons in Peru's incredible Cordillera Blanca mountains.
Along the way I met some interesting people (and animals!) and saw some beautiful mountains. A few mishaps occurred but overall I learned that I CAN DO THIS!
This video will help to show you what the hike is like, and even if you don't plan to do it yourself, I'm sure there will be aspects that you can relate to!

Drone video of Laguna Parón, Huascaran National Park, Huaraz, Peru - Peruvian Andes from Above
Flying over Laguna Parón at 13,632 feet (4,155 meters) in Huascaran National Park with DJI drone video. This spectacular turquoise glacial lake is surrounded by the stunning snow-covered Andean peaks of Aguja 19,318 ft (5,888 m), Caraz 19,767 ft (6,025 m), Artesonraju 19,767 ft (6,025 m), Parón 18,372 ft (5,600 m), Pirámide 19,209 ft (5,885 m), Chacraraju 20,052 ft (6,112 m), Pisco 18,937 ft (5,772 m), and Huandoy 20,981 (6,395 m).
Huascaran National Park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site.

Coming from the Northern hemisphere makes me instinctively look for snow in December. This time I found my winter fairytale in Huascarán National Park with its hundreds of glaciers, lakes and lagoons at 3-6k meter altitude. Gorgeously turquoise waters, green valleys with snow-capped mountains on the background - unbelievable beauty and diversity of landscapes.
With hiking trails from just a couple of hours up to 10 days, even one month would not be enough to explore this place properly but here’s what one can do in 4 days:
Day 1️⃣. Take it easy and get acclimatised to the 3k+ altitudes. No joke, I’ve seen people vomit and faint on their first day in the mountains. Of course it doesn’t mean staying at home and doing nothing the whole day.
Get one of the widely offered bus tours to see the picturesque Llanganuco lagoon.
Along the way you'll visit the Yungay village, now declared a national cemetery, as it was fully destroyed in 1970 by an earthquake followed by an avalanche, killing about 20.000 people.
Try the local delicacy “cuy”, a fried/roasted guinea pig (the locals find it funny that we keep these guys as pets, for them it’s nothing else but food). Drink mate de coca to prevent altitude sickness.
Day 2️⃣. Test if you're altitude-ready by taking a bus tour to Pastoruri Glacier situated at a bit over 5.000m (broke my personal record there!). There’s a short one hour hike at the top, which lets you fully experience the fun of walking at high altitudes - all the movements are slower, the body doesn’t listen and respond to you properly, while the amazing scenery makes you want to run around, jump, take one million pictures and build a snowman! Sad fact, this glacier is disappearing due to the climate changes and will be completely gone in about 20 years.
Day 3️⃣. Hike Laguna 69, the highlight of the trip and deserves a separate post - stay tuned!
Day 4️⃣. Hike Laguna Wilcacocha, with its breathtaking views over the whole Cordillera Blanca. Passing through the tiny local village on the way up you’re most likely to hear Quechua rather than Spanish. And wrap it all up with a hot-tub-relax at the termal waters in Monterrey!
