Celebrating the comming year, on the AISH building in Jerusalem
View From Roof of Aish Building
This is a panorama view taken from the roof of the Aish HaTorah building at the Western Wall Plaza in Jerusalem in September 2014. It's an excellent viewpoint but not clearly marked how to get there. I could not find directions anywhere on the web or Aish's web site and Google street scenes did not go there (I like street scenes to find places.)
So for those who might want directions, there's a map and picture at the end of the video. I started at the corner of Misgav Ladach Street and Tif'eret Israel Street outside of the Temple Institute Building (they have an interesting 1-hour tour ... 25 shekels admission). There are two lion statues at this plaza - this is as far as you can go there on Google street scenes. Go down the steps there and you will come to the golden menorah under the glass dome. At the menorah facing toward the Western Wall, you will see some stairs on your left going upward. At the platform at the top of the stairs, go down the stairs on your right and a left turn at the bottom brings you to the small plaza at the front entrance of the Aish HaTorah building. The stairs to the roof is at the right side of the entrance but you have to pay a 10 shekel per person fee at the desk inside the entrance. The view is worth it. There's also a model of the temple on the roof.

My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

More info about Rick's travels to Israel: Jerusalem is alive with religious tradition and passion — Christian, Muslim, and Jewish. Within a 10-minute walk you can see the Church of the Holy Sepulchre — so sacred to Christians, the Dome of the Rock — treasured by Muslims, and at Temple Mount, the holiest place in Judaism: the Western Wall.

Lovely bed and breakfast Jerusalem.
We started renting out our guest room as a bed and breakfast this summer. I am enclosing our listing through Airbnb.
It turns out Dad, Barry and I really enjoy hosting guests and it is a good way for us to make extra money. The pictures featured in the listing were taken by the Jerusalem Post when they featured our apartment in the beautiful homes in Israel section.
Please tell you friends about our bed and breakfast.
Obviously the added amenities are not listed in the article. We have a secure building, a locked garage, elevator, four bedrooms, three baths, two terraces, all the windows in the apartment have views of different areas of Jerusalem. We have central air conditioning, a kosher kitchen with two separate areas for milk and meat. Both have their own sinks and dishwashers. We have a pantry off the kitchen with a full size freezer and a floor to ceiling cabinet for food.
Off the lobby of the building we have a storage room that could be an office. Right now it has built in closets and shelves in there for additional storage/

Jerusalem from above
A rooftop tour of Jerusalem provides new perspective on an ancient city
Jerusalem is often explored on foot, but another way to see the city is to climb to its rooftops and look down on some of its amazing sites.
Today's tour with guide Madeleine Lavine starts at the YMCA, an architectural landmark built in 1878 and well known for its vision of coexistence. Inside, there is a Jewish-Arab preschool, and a hotel and sports center with a mixed staff.
From there, we look due East across to the Mount of Olives and see the white dome of the newly reconstructed Hurva Synagogue in the Old City; the Windmill in Yemin Moshe, the Old Jerusalem Train station and Independence Park downtown.
We continue atop the Old City walls to the roof of Aish HaTorah Yeshiva, providing a close view of the Western Wall and the Temple Mount with its golden Dome of the Rock, Al Aqsa mosque and Wilson's Arch ... and in the distance, the Orthodox Church on the Mount of Olives.
