Turkish Baths (Hamam)
The word, “hamam”, originating from the Arabic hamma (means “heating up”), means steam bath and is based on the heating of cold water. Baths served as health centres among the ancient Greeks and have been an important part of daily life in Istanbul since Roman and Byzantine times. Under the Romans, Byzantine baths were more than places to wash, but social clubs where people met their friends and conversed or argued over politics. In Central Asia, the Turkic people had steam baths, which they called “Manchu”. Bringing their Asian tradition with them, they merged it with the Roman bath culture they found in Anatolia, and a new synthesis was born, the “Turkish bath.” With their traditions, associated beliefs, and philosophy of life, baths became an institution, which spread throughout Anatolia. Although the Turkish bath employed the same kind of heating system as the earlier Roman one, it is dissimilar in many ways. The Turkish bath consists of three sections: the cool room (soğukluk), the tepidity room (ılıklık), and the hottest room (sıcaklık or harrare). Double Turkish baths had separate sections for men and women, whereas single baths would accommodate women on certain days and hours.
In the early Ottoman period, Turkish baths were built not only in the cities of Iznik and Bursa, but also in complexes outside of the cities, where trading took place. Upon the conquest of Istanbul in 1453, Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror built nineteen baths in Istanbul, five of them quite large in size. The Ottomans developed Byzantine market places and built their hamams in those areas. The first Ottoman bath in the city was known as the Irgat Bath. During the Ottoman period, baths were often built as part of large religious charity complexes (külliye) that could include a mosque, hospital, soup kitchen, library, school, and lodgings for students or clerics. The income from these baths, which were sponsored by foundations headed by the sultan, members of the royal family, or other leading figures in the Ottoman Empire, would be used to maintain the mosque or other buildings in the complex. It has been documented that in the 16th century, empire officials used their personal wealth to build these charitable institutions. The Ottomans not only built baths in the capital of Istanbul but also constructed countless baths across the wide sweep of their empire. Examples of Ottoman baths in various states of disrepair can be found in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, with the western most Ottoman hamam being in the Hungarian city of Peçuy. In the 17th century, Turkish traveler and writer, Evliya Çelebi recorded that there were 151 hamams in Istanbul alone.

Turkish Toilet - VIDEO TOUR! LOL! (Istanbul, Turkey)
We found a Turkish Toilet!!! LOL! Also known as a Squat toilet or a squat latrine! (tuvalet) You need strong thighs for this one, although, it depends on your diet too! There is a handy bucket and a faucet for flushing! haha! Amazing!
A squat latrine (or squatting latrine) is a toilet used by squatting, rather than sitting. There are several types of squat toilets, but they all consist essentially of a toilet pan or bowl at floor level. Such a toilet pan is also called a squatting pan. The only exception is a pedestal squat toilet, which is of the same height as a sitting toilet. It is in theory also possible to squat over sitting toilets, but this requires extra care to prevent accidents as they are not designed for squatting.
A squat toilet may use a water seal and therefore be a flush toilet, or it can be without a water seal and therefore be a dry toilet. The term squat refers only to the expected defecation posture and not any other aspects of toilet technology, such as whether it is water flushed or not.
Squat toilets are used all over the world, but are particularly common in many Asian and African countries, including those with a large proportion of Muslim or Hindu faith. In many of those communities, anal cleansing with water is also the cultural norm and easier to perform than with toilets used in a sitting position.

Seni çok sevdiğimi
Düğümlü yolları
Çıkmaz sokakları

Geçen zamanı
İstanbul uyurken
Dinle geceyi
Yıldızlar beni anlatır sana
Belki gelirim

A former Turkish banking executive, who was released from a federal U.S. prison last week, arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday.
A Turkish Airlines plane carrying Mehmet Hakan Atilla landed at Istanbul Airport at around 11:30 a.m. local time (0830GMT) after it took off from the New York JFK International Airport.
Atilla was welcomed at the airport by his family members; his wife Burcin, son Burkan, mother Ayse and father Mehmet Isik as well as banking executives and state officials.
Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Mehmet Cahit Turhan, and General Manager of Halkbank Osman Arslan were among those, who welcomed Atilla.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation with Atilla after his arrival in Turkey to express his good wishes to Atilla and his family good wishes.
Atilla, 48, the former deputy director-general at Turkish state lender Halkbank, was sentenced in May 2018 in New York for violating U.S. sanctions on Iran.
However, the judge allowed the time he had served after being arrested a year earlier to be credited in the sentence, and his release on July 19 was announced earlier due to good behavior.
When Atilla was convicted, Turkey blasted the verdict as “a scandalous decision in a scandalous case” and “a conspiracy aimed at complicating Turkey’s internal politics and intervening in Turkey’s internal affairs.
Atilla’s arrest came after Turkish businessman Riza Sarraf was arrested in 2016 in the U.S. for violating sanctions on Iran.
Cooperating with prosecutors, he gave testimony against Atilla which was used to convict the banker.
