Stand Up Paddleboarding Québec's Cantons-de-l'Est | Paddle Tales
Bordering the states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, Québec's Cantons-de-l'Est region's small towns and villages have maintained their charm, despite being in such close proximity to large city centres, making them a popular destination for vacationers. The rolling hills, winding rivers and clear lakes and four national parks in the region make it an adventure traveller's dream—and exactly why host, Alex Keller, is heading there to do some stand up paddleboarding.

TPP 006 Top 7 Paddles of California
Join Host Greggy as he shares one by one the countdown list of the top 7 wonders of the California Paddle world.

We are big fans of paddling in our amazing state. And over time, we have found there to be certain paddles that are so amazing, that everyone should have them on their bucket list. So, with New Year's resolutions and inspiration always being shared, we decided to come up with this list.
The places below are amazing, and something only paddlers can experience. For each one we reached out to a local expert in the region to get tips and insight so that when you launch to check it off your list, you have a positive experience. Enjoy, and be sure to thank each person below and visit their websites. Did we miss something? Chances are we did, so feel free to let us know in the comments and share with everyone your favorite place!
Important note: Always be respectful of the local waters, rules and etiquette. You are visiting someone else's home waters here (and they are not always a person). So make minimal wake, all trash you take, and keep your noise respectful for goodness sake. :)
7. USS Midway
San Diego Bay (Map) - Have you ever wondered how big ARE those aircraft carriers? Well recently the US Navy retired one of its carriers, the USS Midway, and made it into a floating museum on San Diego Bay. This is a unique chance paddle near one of these majestic floating fortresses, with the beautiful downtown San Diego skyline and huge Coronado bridge as added bonuses. To learn more about this paddle, we turn to local waterman Manny Vargas to share some tips about enjoying it from the water.
To get the most out of paddling up to the stationary USS Midway aircraft carrier, only do this 3 mile roundtrip paddle in the morning. Start your paddle after 9am and you'll be battling the boat wakes the entire way. Not fun. You have three docks across the street from the Solar Turbines facilities on Harbor drive to choose from to start your paddle. People live on the boats here so please be respectful with your talking volume. Bring your GoPro and get ready to be awed. One last thing, keep a good distance from piers and the Midway itself.
BTW, for any of our paddle surfers our there, Manny has been running surf and SUP tours to Northern Baja California for the past two and a half years. You want empty line-ups and an awesome time in Baja without worries... hit up BajaWeekender.com.
6. Balboa Island During the Holidays
Newport Harbor (Map) - There is nothing more spectacular than millions of holiday lights...except perhaps seeing them from the water! Established in 1907, the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights the takes place in December each year and is one of California's oldest holiday festival of lights. Decorated yachts, boats, kayaks and canoes cruise along Newport Harbor, and illuminate their reflections. In addition to the parade (5 nights each year), the yacht clubs, boathouses and waterfront mansions on Balboa Island go all out with decorations and lights. In fact the island decor has led to it being coined the Ring of Light and worthy of paddling its perimeter which is roughly 2.75 miles but factor in all the zig-zagging you will do to see every little light and attention to detail. We reached out to Kel Thompson of the Newport Aquatic Center (NAC) for some tips on this area and she shared the following:
Be sure to know the official event route ahead of time if you intend to watch the parade, so you do not interfere with the course. Also, since it is a night paddle, be sure to wear bright colors and have lights so you are visible. Reflective stickers on your paddle or craft is also a great trick. Also you should stay out of the main channel while paddling! It's very dangerous out there with over 100 boats in the harbor moving around at night. There are many beaches, docks and public spots in Newport Harbor, as well as Newport Dunes to launch, but many are paid parking so prepare for that. We are really stoked on the folks at NAC ( They have SUP and kayak rentals and are regularly taking out various crafts and paddlers to share their stoke of paddling. Check their website to see if there is an organized race or paddle event during the holidays to help you check this paddle off your bucket list!
5. Catalina Island
Catalina Island (Map) - This paddle has many levels of awesome depending on how hardcore you are. For the casual paddler, gliding across the waters of Avalon Harbor is as special as any place we can think of. With the historic Casino which opened in...

The MOST BEAUTIFUL place in Mexico
We've traveled all over Mexico but Bacalar, a Pueblo Mágico, might be the most beautiful place we've seen yet!
►Learn Spanish like us:
It was basically love at first sight when we arrived in Bacalar. The lagoon of 7 colors stole our hearts immediately. The crystal clear waters of Bacalar Lagoon were so beautiful and refreshing. We spent 5 days in this Pueblo Mágico at an Airbnb right on the lagoon. Although it wasn't ideal to share an outdoor bathroom and shower here, we loved having direct access to the lagoon. We went kayaking any chance we got—Laska even came too and she had the time of her life!
During our stay in Bacalar, we also found some incredible food at local restaurants, took a sunrise paddleboarding tour, and went to the Fort of San Felipe. There's not a whole lot going on in the town of Bacalar, but that didn't bother us. We could hardly keep ourselves from swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding on the lagoon.
------OUR MINI GUIDE TO BACALAR, QUINTANA ROO------
WHERE TO STAY IN BACALAR
1. You will likely find the most affordable rental options on Airbnb. If you're new to Airbnb, you can save $40 when you sign up with our link. We'll get a $20 credit.
WHERE TO EAT IN BACALAR
1. La Playita - this restaurant sits right on Bacalar Lagoon. You can sit under the canopy of the giant tree on the property at one of the many tables with a view of the waters. The food and drinks are incredible! You can also snap some pictures out on the dock. It's especially pretty at sunset.
2. La Piña - This restaurant was our go-to spot for breakfast. They make some flavor-packed breakfast dishes that are crave-worthy! We recommend trying one their Smoothies Borrachos which have perfect combinations of fruit and a bit of liquor.
3. Mango & Chile - You'll find this restaurant right next to the Fort of San Felipe near the center of town. They make some great lattes and have allergy-friendly options.
4. El Manatí - We enjoyed eating our breakfast here because they have a lush outdoor garden area. The coffee was very tasty, too!
WHAT TO DO IN BACALAR
1. Sunrise Paddle Boarding - We had an unforgettable time on Antonio's tour. He took us out before the sun came up so we could see it rise over the lagoon. Later on, we got to see Cenote Esmerelda and Cenote Negro. Before going back, we enjoyed some snacks while floating on our paddle boards in shallow lagoon waters. It was an all-around 5-star experience. Book his tour here:
2. Kayaking - You can rent kayaks all over the lagoon and it's a great way to explore more of the lagoon. It's so different depending on where you are!
3. See cenotes - If you don't take Antonio's tour (above) we think it's worthwhile to see the two cenotes that are in (yes, IN) Bacalar Lagoon. Before this, we'd never experienced anything like that before.
4. Visit the Fort of San Felipe - Located near the town center, the fort was used to watch for pirates that tried to invade Bacalar many years ago. It costs ~100 pesos for foreigners and 50 pesos for Mexicans.
5. There are SO many more things to do in Bacalar that we didn't get to experience since we only had 5 days there. We recommend going out and exploring some on your own to find other things you'd enjoy doing.

Salinas River, California Striper Bass Fishing Preview | Opening Day | New Edited Video Coming Soon!
Went fishing for stripers bass in the Salinas River, California on the opening day December 1st, 2017. This is a preview video to my newest video I will be editing and posting as soon as we get a fish on!! It will also contain all the fishing rules and regulations to my knowledge and locations so that you can all come fish here with a license and steel head report card.
I was using an SP Minow lure in the beginning but with no luck I switch to anchovies, which have worked before. Last year I caught a 26 inch Striper Bass on anchovies at night and that photo is in my IG @ Neo_Fishing_Methods if you'd like to check it out. This location is under the Highway 1.
If you want to watch my next video with all edits and fish caught then like and subscribe to my channel to keep updated with all my future content. It would be really appreciated and will motivate me to upload more videos. If you have any additional information on my videos, fishing, random stuff or would like me to check out your channel then leave a comment below!!

Me, my shark and I. My GoPro video by Chuck Patterson
Stand up paddling with a new GoPro HD HERO camera (httt://ww.gopro.com) mounted on a 10 ft pole in search of getting video of the Great White shark at San Onofre state beach. I paddle out on my Hobie Stand up paddle board, 250 yards by myself and within minutes a shark surprised me with a swing of his tail, almost knocking me into the water. The shark swam away and another 7' shark appeared and circled my board off and on for 12 minutes. it was an insane experience which i hope to enjoy again soon. chuckpattersonsports.com

Rio Vista Park San Marcos - New Rules
Rob Roark and Griffin Spell of We The People got to the Rio Vista park to ask opinions on the proposed rule changes banning alcohol and open charcoal pits. We also look at the erosion problems on the banks of the river, and the effect of the Federal Government on the city's ability to take care of our river.
