Atago Jinja (愛宕神社) in Minato-ku is a small Shinto shrine founded in 1603.
It is located on top of Atago-yama Hill which is 26 meters (85 feet) high. This shrine is a spiritual branch of Atago Jinja Shrine in Kyoto which is famous for enshrining gods who offer protection from fire.

The shrine is located on Atago Hill, which is 26 meters above sea level. In old times, the shrine had an excellent view of Tokyo, now obscured by high rises. The very steep stairs leading to the shrine are also famous, as they represent success in life.

【散歩編】August 2019 虎ノ門にある「出世の石段」で有名な愛宕神社を散歩しました。
境内は結構大掛かりな修繕工事中でしたが、西日の射す心地良い時間帯に厳かな気持ちになれました。色々思うところがあって悶々としていましたがたまにこういう所に立ち寄ると心静かに落ち着けるのでオススメです。
