Ayutthaya Elephant Palace and Royal Kraal, Thailand
I visited the Elephant Kraal on a very hot and humid day, and I must admit Elephants don’t smell that good standing near them. However many of the Elephants were being watered down to keep them cool and clean. This is a place that you really do need to keep your eyes open, there is a great number of droppings around the walking area. Across the road several gift shops are enticing to visit. They are surprisingly different to most other tourist area shops, having many handbags and shopping bags made from straw, and pottery on display is very unusual, I bought several coffee mugs with lids and strainers, make sure the strainers are in your box before you leave!
In the 1980’s Thailand banned commercial logging from’ its rapidly shrinking forests. While this was an environmental achievement, one unfortunate consequence was the traditional Thai mahouts or elephant trainers to you and I and their families along with their elephants were put out of productive work.
An ever increasing human population has also meant that there is less and less forest in which elephants can roam as freely as we would like them to in an ideal world. Whatever your views on this I never saw any animal being treated badly and were looked after with kindness and understanding.
Then in 1995 the Prakochaban Foundation was set up by Laithongrien Meepan, an amazingly kind and generous man known locally as Pi Om. He devoted his life to restoring the Asian elephant to their rightful place in Thai society as a, much loved and respected symbol of Thailand’s incredible history… and future.
With support from the Prakochaban Foundation, the former Royal Elephant Kraal in Ayutthaya was turned into safe haven for sick, abused, injured and killer bull elephants in need of rehabilitation. Today, the Royal Kraal, once a compound where the king of Thailand kept captured elephants, is home to 90 such animals, all living happy and comfortable lives.

In the Amazing Thailand ^_^
The Tourism Authority of Thailand to Singapore brought medias and travel agents to visit the elephant village of a former kingdom of Ayutthaya during Singapore' s medias and travel agents familiarization trip 25 - 28 July ...
Thailand begins with the people ^_^
Dear all friends ... These Thai elephants are living in the elephant foundation. They are happy which those are house elephants, were born and live together with human their owner or called mahout. In the present time, the house-elephant are grouped in Thai elephant foundations which situated in every region across Thailand. Meanwhile, Thai elephant and its mahout are now looked after under Royal Thai Patronage and by the government with salary. They have not been allowed work in forest or walking along the roadside for begging... If you wondering, where your money go to? All of the money goes straight back to the elephants. It costs about 600 Thai Baht / day to feed an elephant. Then there is the mahout, medicine, and the cost of running the place that dedicated to providing first class condition and care and the most importantly a sustainable future for the elephants. Noted: the hook for elephant always important as dog' s lead or ้horse' s whip...Thank you for your understanding the way of Thai Life... For more, please log on Cheers, ^_^

Royal Elephant Kraal in Ayutthaya, Thailand
This video is about the Royal Elephant Kraal in Ayutthaya, Thailand. Ayutthaya is the ancient capital of Siam (Thailand today) and is about a 90 minute drive north of Bangkok. This Kraal, or pavilion, dates back to the 16th century and is the only one left in Thailand. This is where the King of Siam would gather his personal elephants for his viewing, many of which were captured in the wild and then domesticated.
The present owners now operate an elephant asylum for retired and nonworking elephants and focus on creating a sustainable future for Thailand's elephants. Over the past few generations, elephant mortality had exceeded birth rates, and they are working diligently to help change this using their personal money to care for the elephants. Every time we visit there are more baby elephants. This time we encountered 7 less than 3 months old and were told several of the females were expecting babies in the coming months.
We are not associated with the Royal Elephant Kraal, but visit them often and always bring friends and relatives who are visiting Thailand to see this wonderful facility. It is not a tourist spot, but they welcome visitors with open arms, and I highly recommend a visit if you are coming to Thailand. They do have a program for people to volunteer and experience working and living with the elephants. More details can be found on their website:

We feast our eyes with the gentle giants of Ayutthaya province in the Land of Smiles. Tourists can experience riding on the back of an elephant and take some photos for some cash but I used mine to buy some feeds, corn and cucumber, instead.

THAILAND. Elephants spread Christmas cheer at Thailand school
Elephants from Ayutthaya Elephant Palace and Royal Kraal in Thailand's a ancient capital dressed up as Santa Claus and visited a local school on Friday (December 22), spreading Christmas cheer and handing out presents.
Students at Jirasartwitthaya school eagerly waited the annual, special guests.
Four elephants, including a three-year-old baby, handed out dolls, balloons and snacks with their long trunks and entertained children with special dances.
Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country, with Christians comprising only about 0.7 percent of the population. Christmas is not an official holiday in the country but many commercial outlets and people have adopted various aspects of the tradition.

An experience of a lifetime visiting the Elephant Stay in Ayutthaya
Officially listed as an endangered species in 1986, Asian Elephant numbers are slowly on the rise, especially here in Thailand, thanks to the tremendously dedicated staff here at the Not for Profitt Elephant Stay & the Royal Elephant Kraal and Village. Established in 1996, the primary objective is to conserve the species and to provide a home for retired, abused ,sick, injured and neglected elephants. The first successful birth was in 2,000 .......there have been many more since!

Majestic elephants march and bow in tribute to Thailand's new king
In Bankok's historic old quarter eleven elephants walk in time to the beat of a drum in a dramatic parade to celebrate the coronation of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. A day after the monarch's three-day coronation ceremony the white painted elephants were brought to the city by their trainers - known as mahouts. The ritual-laden coronation ended on Monday with the newly crowned 66-year-old king granting Thais a public audience from a balcony of the Grand Palace. And today elephants dressed in yellow silk shawls and saffron flower garlands performed a 10-step jig to symbolise the 10th reign of the Chakri dynasty.
