Hiking the Santa Monica Mountains
This video depicts a three hour hiking excursion to Sandstone Peak. From Sandstone Peak we looped around the Mishe Mokwa Trail back to the parking lot. This is one of the most beautiful hikes in Southern California.
From Los Angeles, take the 101 Freeway North and Exit Westlake Blvd. Take Westlake Blvd (Highway 23) into the mountains. The road becomes Decker Canyon. Take Decker Canyon to West Mullholand Highway and make a right on Mullholand. Take Mullholand to Little Sycamore Canyon Road. The trailhead is off of Little Sycamore. You will see the Sandstone Peak sign in the parking lot. If you hit the Circle X Ranger Station on Little Sycamore you've driven too far.

Hiking Malibu, California in the Winter
On an outing to one of my favorite local spots, I was surprised to find iced over trails as late as 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon. This video shows our Southern California version of winter after a recent rain.

Malibu Creek State Park is a state park of California, United States, preserving the Malibu Creek canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains. The 8,215-acre (3,324 ha) park was established in 1974. Opened to the public in 1976, the park is also a component of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

Riverside California Sycamore Canyon Mountain Park For Hiking And Biking
Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park is a part of City Of Riverside Parks and is a mostly undeveloped natural area with fantastic views of the city and surrounding area. It lies south of Interstate 215 between Riverside and Moreno Valley California next to Canyon Crest and Mission Grove neighborhoods,with parking and main entrance off of Central avenue. The cities website provides almost no information whatsoever on the park, but I can tell you it is excellent for mountain biking and hiking and for someone who just wants to get away from all the hustle bustle of southern Californias cities. You can almost pretend that you are a long ways from urban civilisation, but the ever present sound of distant traffic and the sight of the surrounding rich peoples homes on the hilltops remind you that not quite! On foot and by bike you can access the southern end of the park off of Sycamore Canyon Boulevard north of Alessandro, but there is no parking here.

Park Info. The park offers chances for hiking along streamside trails on Malibu Creek, fishing, bird watching and horseback riding through the Santa Monica Mountains. The park is open from dawn until dusk. A visitor center is open on weekends only. The park is located four miles south of Highway 101 on Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon Road.
Biking. Malibu Creek is a great place for serious mountain bikers because of the plentiful steep terrain - especially Bulldog Road and Mesa Peak Motorway (where there are fewer hikers). Beginners can have fun along Crags Road - the main hiking trail through the park. Those seeking additional challenge on two wheels can take on.

The Arroyo Seco Parkway, also known as the Pasadena Freeway, is the first freeway in the Western United States.
It connects Los Angeles with Pasadena alongside the Arroyo Seco seasonal river. It is notable not only for being the first, mostly opened in 1940, but for representing the transitional phase between early parkways and modern freeways.
It conformed to modern standards when it was built, but is now regarded as a narrow, outdated roadway.
A 1953 extension brought the south end to the Four Level Interchange in downtown Los Angeles and a connection with the rest of the freeway system.
The road remains largely as it was on opening day, though the plants in its median have given way to a steel guard rail, and most recently to concrete barriers, and it now carries the designation State Route 110, not historic U.S. Route 66.
Between 1954 and 2010, it was officially designated the Pasadena Freeway. In 2010, as part of plans to revitalize its scenic value and improve safety, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) restored the original name to the roadway.
All the bridges built during parkway construction remain, as do four older bridges that crossed the Arroyo Seco before the 1930s.
The Arroyo Seco Parkway is designated a State Scenic Highway, National Civil Engineering Landmark, and National Scenic Byway. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

In this episode, Fireball and Kathie start the day by hitting Topanga Canyon's Summit Valley Trail Hike, then off to the beach from some cleanup.
Some WIKI stuff... #Topanga is a census-designated place (CDP) in western Los Angeles County, California, United States.[2] Located in the Santa Monica Mountains, the community lies in Topanga Canyon. The narrow southern portion of Topanga at the coast is in-between the city of Malibu and the city of Los Angeles neighborhood of Pacific Palisades. Topanga had a population of 8,289 as of 2010. The ZIP code is 90290 and the area code is primarily 310, with 818 only at the north end of the canyon. It is in the 3rd County Supervisorial district.
Topanga Creek drains Topanga Canyon and is the third largest watershed entering the Santa Monica Bay.[3] The creek is one of the few remaining undammed waterways in the area, and is a spawning ground for steelhead trout. The area typically receives about 22 of rain annually.[4] Topanga Beach[5] lies on the coast at the outlet of Topanga Creek. Topanga Canyon Boulevard, State Route 27, is the principal thoroughfare, connecting the Ventura Freeway (US 101) with Pacific Coast Highway (SR 1). The southern portion of the boulevard largely follows Topanga Creek. North of the Old Topanga Canyon Road intersection, the boulevard traverses the Santa Monica Mountains.
Topanga Canyon contains lands of Topanga State Park, which is the largest park in the Santa Monica Mountains and one of the largest open space preserves surrounded by a city in the world, as well as the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. It is part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. It primarily represents a California coastal sage and chaparral ecoregion, with large areas of the California oak woodland plant community, and a wide variety of native plants.

Hiking one of my favorite trails in the Santa Monica Mountains and Los Angeles area. The Hike is considered easy and good for any beginner. Despite the aftermath of the devastating wildfire in late 2018 these mountains still manifest and an astonishing and breathtaking view at 3,111 ft elevation;the highest peak in the Santa Monica Mountains.
