We slept in 8 different beds in 8 nights. THE LAST BALI VLOG // Ep 23 Southeast Asia Travel Vlogs
The end of our month in Bali was a blur. Poor planning and lack of motivation led us to the tiring marathon of staying in 8 different beds over 8 days.
It was exhausting and 100% our fault.
We lacked any drive to do touristy activities, which made everywhere we-we went a little less exciting. Travel burn out? Maybe this was our first taste of that.
But we have no regrets, as we have since learned from this experience and we’re able to look back and laugh.
We don’t like to over plan or overbook, as you never know what places you’ll fall in love with or what situations you’ll want to run away from. So we like to keep an open book other than a few checkpoints and vague itineraries. For the most part, this works out great, as we never get “stuck” anywhere. However, it also puts us in this predicament where we never know what we’re doing, where we’re going, or even what we want to do.
Classic lazy and lost behavior, am I right?
The most memorable part of these moving days was the earthquake. Oh yeah, that whole thing. What a terrifying experience. This earthquake wasn’t very big, but it was big enough to paralyze us with fear. You think that you would know what to do in a scary situation, but your brain just stops. Especially when being woken from a deep slumber. There wasn’t even anything in our room to get underneath besides a small side table that only fit half my torso. Luckily, the tremors stopped after 40 seconds and that was the last of it. After that experience, I can only imagine how terrifying it must have been to be in the fatal and destructive Sulawesi earthquake just weeks prior.
On a lighter note.. Our time from Uluwatu to Kuta and everywhere in between was tiring but it was our experience. We were able to get some work done and set some goals for our upcoming trip to the Philippines. We promised each other that we would do more adventure days, and force ourselves to book accommodations for at least 2 nights to avoid the bed-hopping.
My favourite part of our last week in Bali was, of course, all the delicious affogatos we indulged in. Espresso with ice cream, who knew??
None of our accommodations were great, hence why we kept moving around. There was always “something”, but each one also had its perks. If we could have combined all of our favourite perks of each place, we would have found the perfect home. Looking back now they were fine, as we’ve stayed in much worse (stay tuned for our Philippines Vlogs). But at the time, we felt they weren’t adequate and we would not recommend them.
If we could recommend anything to fellow travellers it would be:
1. Find a sweet spot in the middle between not planning at all, and over planning. What we do now, is we will book our accommodations for at least 2 nights, even if that means sacrificing comfort, it at least gives you a day to explore the area, settle in, and plan your next place.
2. Get an affogato. Our favourite place was The Bali Bakery, in South Denpasar/Kuta area.
3. A good way to beat the “travel blues” or “travel burn out”, book a tour or an adventure day! Nothing boosts our spirits like a good adventure day, though it can be hard to find motivation when feeling burned out.
4. Our favourite (and cheapest) place to eat was called “Warung Indonesia”, located in the heart of central Kuta. Amazing local food for next to nothing helped keep us full and happy without breaking the bank.
5. Retail therapy in Bali is always fun and a good way to get out of a travel funk.
6. Bintangs and beach sunsets!!! Nothing beats that combination.
Sad to leave Bali, but excited to move on to our next chapter. The Philippines! Stay tuned.

The journey begins!
Scotty and I quit our jobs, moved our stuff into storage and left Canada to travel all around Southeast Asia until the funds run out. We've always talked of doing something like this, but we decided to take the plunge and really go for it.
We are starting our travels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and staying with our old pal and roommate Sunil. From there, we will be traveling to Bali, Indonesia.
Our goal is to experience as much as we can, get out of our comfort zones, and really live our lives to the fullest.
We plan to share this journey with friends and family and anyone else interested in our journey. The goal is to put out one travel vlog weekly, to share the good, the bad, and everything in between.
Stay tuned and enjoy the ride!!
xoxo
