Smoky Mountains National Park Road Trip: FL to TN [Spring Break 2015]
I always wanted to visit The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Spring break from school was a perfect time for me to take a road trip to the park with a friend. I tried to get much out of that short period of time (6 days). We didn't stay any of these days in any hotel; instead, we camped in a car, and in the park as well. I wish I had more time to do more.
I hope you enjoyed watching my adventurous road trip as much as I did.

Great Balsam Mountains
There are Incredible views along the Great Balsam Mountain Range in Haywood County, NC. This hike starts at Beech Gap and covers Devils Courthouse, Chestnut Bald, Upper Graveyard Fields, Tennent Mountain and Sams Knob; and the trail surpasses 6000 feet multiple time. A sunny afternoon in the 60s leads to an arctic morning with a jaw dropping low of 9 degrees. Hike along with us to enjoy the views, challenges and humor along the way.
S3 E3 Three Night Loop in The Smokies May 2016
This 28 mile route from Cosby Campground over 3 nights/4 days completed a loop by way of a number of tracks through Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Low Gap Trail passed over the Appalachian Trail to connect with the Swallow Fork Trail before the Mount Sterling Ridge Trail led us to the Balsam Mountain Trail and the Tricorner shelter. From there, I enjoyed my first taste of the AT heading north before descending down the Snake Den Ridge Trail to where we started. Our rain gear served us well as we enjoyed the extensive variety of vegetation on offer in (YouTube Creator) Roger Lamb's backyard(AKA the Smokies). All and all, this route proved to be a fine introduction to the Great Smoky Mountains and hiking in Appalachia.

Smokemont Campground July 2016
In 1976 my parents purchased a 17' travel trailer after being invited to go camping with several families from our church. The first campground we visited was Smokemont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and from that point we were hooked on camping. After growing up camping at Smokemont for all those years, it is still my favorite place to camp.
Smokemont campground is located five miles north of Cherokee on US 441, just inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Smokemont Campground is situated along side the Oconaluftee River. Smokemont offers group camping and 138 campsites for primitive camping with no water, power, or sewer hookups.
Smokemont Riding Stable is adjacent to the campground. They offer trail rides for ages five years and up and they welcome groups. They have a one hour, two and a half hour, and a four hour ride. Also available for any age are wagon rides. Call 828-497-2373 for rates and availability.
Things you should know:
All food, drinks, and equipment used to prepare and store food must be kept sealed in a vehicle or in a camping unit constructed of solid, non-pliable material or as otherwise directed at all times when not in use.
Only heat treated firewood which is in its original packaging and bears a certification from the USDA or a state agency may be brought into the park.
Campfires are permitted only in fire grates.
Pets are allowed in the campground but must be confined or on a six foot leash. Pets are not allowed on trails and should not be left unattended.
RV sewage must be drained at a dump station. Showers and utility hook ups are not available in the park.
Quiet hours are in effect from 10 PM to 6 AM and generator use is prohibited from 8 PM to 8 AM.
Generator use and battery charging by engine idling is prohibited in generator free areas. Generator use is prohibited in loops A, B, and C from May 15 through October 31.
Tents must be pitched on the tent pads where provided.
Bicycles are allowed and bicycle riders must comply with all traffic regulations including helmet laws and are restricted to public roads, parking areas and designated routes. The use of in-line skates, skateboards or scooters is prohibited.
