This museum is a good place to learn about Otaru's history and the early days of the development of Hokkaido.
The Museum consists of two separate museums: a conventional history museum beside Otaru Canal and a less centrally located railway museum on the grounds of a railway yard.
The Canal Building (運河館, Ungakan)which is used former warehouse is located within the city's main tourist area. The museum covers largely the history and nature of Otaru, describing the times of Hokkaido's native Ainu people as well as the city's preservation movement during the 1970s. There are lots of models and displays, which are explained in an English pamphlet.
The Railway Museum (本館, Honkan) is located slightly outside the main tourist area on the former site of the terminal of Hokkaido's first railway line. Multiple full size trains from various periods are edisplayed on a rail yard. The history of Otaru's railroads is an essential chapter in the city's development and is explained with exhibits and dioramas inside a building.

6:30 a.m. breakfast at the lobby floor café. Nice modest buffet. They had NATTO but we were told not to eat NATTO and/or yogurt because of the active bacteria in them. Bummers! I met 4 guys from Hawaii who were in Tokyo 3 days or so and will be joining our group going to Niigata today. I checked out, dumped luggage in conference room. We then had a lecture by John Gauntner, a noted sake expert. Then we were jammed into about 4-5 taxis and rushed to Tokyo Station. Along the way, I started getting motion sickness. Bummers! Caught the Joetsu Shinkansen (I think) which was a double train. It made several stops but at someplace, I think was Echigo, it split up and our train went to Niigata. I don’t remember where the other part went to. Jumped on a bus in Niigata and we got to meet the whole group, some of whom were in Niigata earlier. We have 14 travelers along with Etsuko and Jason our guides/coordinators/photographer/etc. 5 are from the mainland US, 5 of us from Hawaii, 3 from Australia and one from Canada.
We went directly to Shibata town and visited Ichishima Brewery. They run a café and we had an awesome lunch there (except for me – got more motion sickness on the bus)! Everyone said was ONO local food from the area. I just looked at the food! ☹ Our brewery tour leader Kenji is the 7th generation of sake brewer there. He lived in the states, studied Physics and returned Japan to take over the family business. His family is among the biggest land owner in Niigata. Plenty sake during lunch. Then a walk around the brewery, visited their museum and finally more tasting in their sales room. On the bus Etsuko gave us a tour gift package. Among other things, we received a special blue cloth bag and a sake cup (O-CHO-KO). On the way back to town, they served sake on the bus – more tasting! Today we had our OCHOKO but were reminded that in the future, no OCHOKO, no SAKE! ???? Got to the ANA Crowne Plaza hotel around 6 p.m.-ish (I forgot), got checked in and rested a bit. 7:30 p.m. met & then taxi’ed over for kaiseki dinner. ONO food! More sake! Then geisha party! The ladies refer to water as YA-WA-RA-GI and suggest we take a sip of sake, then a sip of YA-WA-RA-GI. Pretty fun night. Oyasuminasai.

Schindelhauer is launching 4 urban e-bikes at the start of 2019. The names of the bikes are people's names so there is nothing fancy here! We’ve got Adam with a MAHLE rear hub motor, and Karl, Heinrich and Hannah all use Bosch mid frame motors. Hannah incidentally will have a step-through frame design. Plus Karl will be the world's first single speed bike with a Bosch motor!
Graphene can be described as a single layer of graphite. It was discovered by two Russian scientists Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov at the University of Manchester It’s an allotrope of carbon, other allotropes include diamond, coal, buckminsterfullerene and carbon nanotubes.
Although some products claim to feature graphene its important to understand it isn’t in a large scale sheet, as our imagination may suggest. They aren’t built from graphene in the traditional sense. Most commercially available graphene looks like a black powder and it is small amounts of this black powder that are incorporated into the carbon fibre resin in the case of Dassi or rubber compound in the case of Vittoria Corsa G+. What we have therefore is composite materials, that contain graphene.

The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (関西電力株式会社, Kansai Denryoku Kabushiki-gaisha, KEPCO), also known as Kanden (関電), is an electric utility with its operational area of Kansai region, Japan (including the Kobe-Osaka-Kyoto megalopolis).
The Kansai region is Japan’s second-largest industrial area, and in normal times, its most nuclear-reliant. Before the Fukushima nuclear disaster, a band of 11 nuclear reactors — north of the major cities Osaka and Kyoto — supplied almost 50 percent of the region’s power.
As of January 2012, only one of those reactors was still running. In March 2012, the last reactor was taken off the powergrid.
