Hiking the Ocean Path (Maine)
First day of autumn – but a very warm day. Hiked 8 miles earlier in the day, but couldn’t resist hiking 4 more miles in the late afternoon at this very scenic paved path/trail called Ocean Path. We start at Sand Beach – one of 2 swimming beaches in Acadia, then encounter the trail head for Ocean Path. It closely parallels the jagged coastline and the Park Loop Road. It continues for 2 miles until it reaches Otter Point at the south end of the peninsula. There are many places along the path where the hiker can venture toward the coast and explore. Late afternoon attracts many photographers seeking a perch on the rocks to capture that perfect sunset shot. This path has a long history. The philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. recognized the future need for public access to the shore and commissioned the paving of this trail. In 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps made many improvements that exist today. Ocean Path is a must for anyone visiting Acadia and late afternoon offers the best views. Some tall waves crashing onto the rocks would have made for more dramatic scenes, but alas, the ocean was calm for the entire 10 days I was there…but it did allow me to venture onto the rocks close to the waterline.

Crossing Maine's Infamous Knife Edge
Mt. Katahdin in Maine has an infamous trail called The Knife Edge. It connects some of the more prominent peaks and eventually leads up to Baxter Peak which is the tallest in Maine. It's known for being one of the more dangerous hikes because of its ultra skinny hiking areas and deadly drops on either side. Recently, I traveled up to Baxter State Park in order to take on this sketchy trail.

Ocean Path - Acadia National Park Trail
This was taken while walking by the ocean on the last day of my vacation July 19, 2014. This is the first video I successfully made using a phone. I was in a hurry making this one because the one I spent 45 minutes making while going the opposite direction on the path did not record. I'm pleased with this video because it reminds me of this awesome day at Acadia Park, makes me feel like I'm right there again enjoying the best of both worlds hiking and the ocean.

It has to be one of the best climbs in the world. its a loop that features metal rungs burried into the rock faces and wooden bridges on the side of shear cliffs and is less than a mile long but changes about 500' in elevation. The entire video was shot on a GoPro Hero 3 camera. We also hit the world famous precipice trail stay tuned for that video!

hiking with mazy on the mount mansell trail ~ acadia national park ~ october 2, 2010
~ one of the most spectacular places i've had the pleasure of hiking. acadia is beautiful and this is one of its secret gems. tucked into the quiet side of mount desert island, this trail is worth searching out. beautiful views, granite stairs carved into the mountain, alpine ponds full of frogs, trails descending the ridgeline, this hike has it all! all in all we hiked about 7 miles and little mazy did it without any problems at all...and she's 12 years old!

Acadia National Park - Beachcroft Trail to Champlain Mountain
It was a cool, windy day when I took this hike on Sept 16, 2011. There was a bit of a chill in the office but once on the trail the cool air was very refreshing.
The 2.4 mile hike is an out and back and starts off with a walk through the woods. Soon you come to a granite stone path. It is remarkable to think that all of these perfectly shaped stones, that are quite heavy, were placed here by the people that built the trail over 100 years ago.
The stone trail becomes steeper with stairs and switchbacks until you reach the plateau at the top of Huguenot Head. Although a good hike, it does not seem like you have climbed so high so fast. Already the scenery is breathtaking.
After a short walk through a valley you come to the second half of the ascent. At this point it becomes more of a rock scramble as you climb Champlain Mountain. After the initial steeper rock sections it becomes more of a climb up a smooth large section of granite until you reach the top of Champlain Mountain. At this point you are very glad you stuck with it. The vistas are amazing! The view over Frenchman Bay is beautiful.
The top of the mountain is also the place where you end up if you climb the Precipice Trail or the Bear Brook Trail. After enjoying the view, the descent down the trail is relatively easy, just a few steep areas to watch your footing. The entire hike took about three hours and that included an hour at the top. I definitely recommend this hike for anyone in average condition. I hope to do it again soon!
The trail is located 2 miles outside of Bar Harbor travelling toward Seal Harbor on Rte 3. The parking area is just beyond the Sieur de Monts entrance to Acadia National Park. The entrance to the trail is a little beyond the parking area and across the street.
The background music in the video is by John Haskell. John performs at the Bar Harbor Inn Reading Room Restaurant in season. See the following link for more information about the Bar Harbor Inn:

**Regarding fish**
I know a lot of you guys were subscribed to this channel for fish. Specifically African Cichlids. Unfortunately I am no longer actively involved the the hobby because of my lifestyle. I met some great people in this community so I just want to say THANK YOU to all of those who supported me. You all were incredible, even the ones who argued with me and called me names.
Unfortunately I cannot create a new youtube channel and link it with my current e-mail, so I have to repurpose this channel for Landscape Photography. The 2000 or so people that are subscribed to this channel are along for the ride by default, and I hope you all stick around to follow me on my new journey. I'll be exploring coastal cliffs, beaches, fishing villages, mountains, deserts, and arctic landscapes. Maybe even Lake Malawi? Who knows. I hope you enjoy!
_______________
Hey everyone! Im new to this stuff so take it easy until I learn how to record quality video and edit properly.
I'm a Maine based landscape photographer who specializes in shooting ultra-wide dramatic seascapes on our rocky coastline. I hold the opinion that we have some of the most beautiful photographic locations in the United States. I have made it my goal to capture these scenic locations in the best light, similar to what the great photographers in the PNW have done for their locations.
This location is not exactly a secret. But I would rather not give away the exact location. With enough searching you can find its rough coordinates, but please be careful to not trample the vegetation if you do end up here.
You can find more of my work at:
You can find me on instagram at:
I know all of the best spots in the park and can take you to incredible locations away from the hordes of cruise ship passengers. E-mail me for more information on my group workshop opportunities and one-on-one workshop opportunities. You can use the contact form on my youtube page, or the contact form on my website.
Thanks for watching! The next video will come out the next time I get some good light. That could be tomorrow, or next month. Stay tuned!
Our Scariest Hike Yet! - Hiking the Beehive Loop Trail - Acadia National Park - Maine
The Beehive Loop Trail is a 1.3 mile moderate to difficult hike in Acadia National Park. It is a popular path, leaving from near the Sand Beach parking lot and climbing steeply up the side of Beehive mountain. Iron rungs and ladders help you navigate the rocks and cliff side. Once at the top, you have stunning views of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The trail back is a more leisurely switchback trail down the other side. You can also choose to go up to the top and back down on this easier trail. Despite being a bit scary if you are afraid of heights, the trail is marked and popular. It ended up being our favorite hike in Acadia!
