Fast Bike Ride Down Cadillac Mountain - Acadia National Park
Rode my bike down from the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor Maine. There is a slight uphill at the beginning, then the full-on downhill starts ate about 1:08. I may have been exceeding the speed limit slightly. This was on my homemade cyclocross/gravel bike with CX tires. I would have loved to have had my road bike with race tires. Maybe next time. Not knowing the corners, I actually took it relatively easy, not wanting to fly off the side of the mountain. The video was shot with my Sony point and shoot camera taped to the handlebars with electrical tape. LOL!
BTW, I know my top speed and I am taking the 5th.
FYI, I did this at 8:30am. They recommend cyclists who want to ride the mountain come early in the morning or later in the day when car traffic is light.

Precipice Trail Acadia Maine as seen through the eyes of a DJI Spark
DJI Spark Precipice Trail Mountain Desert Acadia Maine
Acadia National Park is an American national park located in the state of Maine, southwest of Bar Harbor. The park preserves about half of Mount Desert Island, many adjacent smaller islands, and part of the Schoodic Peninsula on the coast of Maine. Acadia was initially designated Sieur de Monts National Monument by proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. Sieur de Monts was renamed and redesignated Lafayette National Park by Congress in 1919—the first national park in the United States east of the Mississippi River and the only one in the Northeastern United States. The park was renamed Acadia National Park in 1929. More than 3.5 million people visited the park in 2018.
Native Americans of the Algonquian nations have inhabited the area called Acadia for at least 12,000 years. They traded furs for European goods when French, English, and Dutch ships began arriving in the early 17th century. The Wabanaki Confederacy has held an annual Native American Festival in Bar Harbor since 1989. Samuel de Champlain named the island Isle des Monts Deserts (Island of Barren Mountains) in 1604. The island was granted to Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac by Louis XIV of France in 1688, then ceded to England in 1713. Summer visitors, nicknamed rusticators, arrived in 1855, followed by wealthy families, nicknamed cottagers as their large houses were quaintly called cottages. Charles Eliot is credited with the idea for the park. George B. Dorr, the Father of Acadia National Park, along with Eliot's father Charles W. Eliot, supported the idea through donations of land, and advocacy at the state and federal levels. John D. Rockefeller Jr. financed the construction of carriage roads from 1915 to 1940. A wildfire in 1947 burned much of the park and destroyed 237 houses, including 67 of the millionaires’ cottages.
The park includes mountains, an ocean coastline, coniferous and deciduous woodlands, lakes, ponds, and wetlands encompassing a total of 49,075 acres (76.7 sq mi; 198.6 km2) as of 2017. Key sites on Mount Desert Island include Cadillac Mountain—the tallest mountain on the eastern coastline and one of the first places in the United States where one can watch the sunrise—a rocky coast featuring Thunder Hole where waves crash loudly into a crevasse around high tides, a sandy swimming beach called Sand Beach, and numerous lakes and ponds. Jordan Pond features the glacially rounded North and South Bubbles (rôche moutonnées) at its northern end, while Echo Lake has the only freshwater swimming beach in the park. Somes Sound is a five-mile (8 km) long fjard formed during a glacial period that reshaped the entire island to its present form, including the U-shaped valleys containing the many ponds and lakes. The Bass Harbor Head Light is situated above a steep, rocky headland on the southwest coast—the only lighthouse on the island.
The park protects the habitats of 37 mammalian species including black bears, moose and white-tailed deer, seven reptilian species including milk snakes and snapping turtles, eleven amphibian species including wood frogs and spotted salamanders, 33 fish species including rainbow smelt and brook trout, and as many as 331 birds including various species of raptors, songbirds and waterfowl. In 1991, peregrine falcons had a successful nesting in Acadia for the first time since 1956. Falcon chicks are often banded to study migration, habitat use, and longevity. Some trails may be closed in spring and early summer to avoid disturbance to falcon nesting areas.
Recreational activities from spring through autumn include car and bus touring along the park's paved loop road; hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding on carriage roads (motor vehicles are prohibited); rock climbing; kayaking and canoeing on lakes and ponds; swimming at Sand Beach and Echo Lake; sea kayaking and guided boat tours on the ocean; and various ranger-led programs. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. Two campgrounds are located on Mount Desert Island, another campground is on the Schoodic Peninsula, and five lean-to sites are on Isle au Haut. The main visitor center is at Hulls Cove, northwest of Bar Harbor.
Hiking the Acadia Mountain Trail (and a thick fog)
September is my favorite month for hiking. Summer crowds are gone (for the most part.) It’s cooler, but not too cold at night for tent camping. Time to leave your own backyard and explore some places that you’ve been meaning to visit.
I last visited Acadia NP 5 years ago. Like about 95% of the people who visit there, I drove the Park Loop Road to Cadillac Mt, took some photos, and then drove to Bar Harbor for some seafood. This time I wanted to spend some time there and see what I missed earlier.
This video is of the most direct route to Acadia Mt, the Acadia Mt trail. Not the tallest mountain in the park and not the most popular. It's not accessible from the Park Loop Road but is on the western side of Somes Sound, the less traveled side of Mt Desert Island. The trail leading to the summit encounters some steep rock formations and not the usual boulder field. And when I reached the top, I was treated to some thick fog which occluded views of the Sound. But it added to the beauty of the place. A great early Saturday morning hike!

Acadia National Park - Beachcroft Trail to Champlain Mountain
It was a cool, windy day when I took this hike on Sept 16, 2011. There was a bit of a chill in the office but once on the trail the cool air was very refreshing.
The 2.4 mile hike is an out and back and starts off with a walk through the woods. Soon you come to a granite stone path. It is remarkable to think that all of these perfectly shaped stones, that are quite heavy, were placed here by the people that built the trail over 100 years ago.
The stone trail becomes steeper with stairs and switchbacks until you reach the plateau at the top of Huguenot Head. Although a good hike, it does not seem like you have climbed so high so fast. Already the scenery is breathtaking.
After a short walk through a valley you come to the second half of the ascent. At this point it becomes more of a rock scramble as you climb Champlain Mountain. After the initial steeper rock sections it becomes more of a climb up a smooth large section of granite until you reach the top of Champlain Mountain. At this point you are very glad you stuck with it. The vistas are amazing! The view over Frenchman Bay is beautiful.
The top of the mountain is also the place where you end up if you climb the Precipice Trail or the Bear Brook Trail. After enjoying the view, the descent down the trail is relatively easy, just a few steep areas to watch your footing. The entire hike took about three hours and that included an hour at the top. I definitely recommend this hike for anyone in average condition. I hope to do it again soon!
The trail is located 2 miles outside of Bar Harbor travelling toward Seal Harbor on Rte 3. The parking area is just beyond the Sieur de Monts entrance to Acadia National Park. The entrance to the trail is a little beyond the parking area and across the street.
The background music in the video is by John Haskell. John performs at the Bar Harbor Inn Reading Room Restaurant in season. See the following link for more information about the Bar Harbor Inn:

Hiking Cadillac Mountain - Acadia National Park, Maine - 2012
We climbed up Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in Maine. The hike up the North Ridge Trail took us about 3 hours, going from essentially sea level up to 1,532 ft. along a rocky path. You have a strong feeling of accomplishment and beautiful views at the summit where you find restrooms, a gift shop and tourists in flip flops who rode the bus to the top.

Took knives edge to the top of Mt Katahdin. Was a perfectly clear day, not a cloud in the sky. you can take other trails to the top of the mountain that are less intimidating. One of the best mountains I have climbed to date. Next will be bigger and better.
Stayed at Abol Bridge Campground for the best view around.
Entire video was filmed on the go pro hero 3 black edition.
Thanks for watching!
Climbed in september of 2014.
How to avoid traffic at Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor Maine
My Beautiful Bride and I were privileged to be in Maine for some concert opportunity's. While we were there we decided to take a day and drive too the coast. We could see in our Waze app that Cadilac Mountain and all surrounding roads were jammed packed with tourist. We looked on the map and found a small and secluded part of Acadia National Park that few people go to. We read the reviews and everyone said that it was incredible and now we can put our stamp of agreement on it! I would recommend it to anyone! I hope you enjoy this episode and all the beauty it entails!

Day 11 of my 25 Day Video Challenge Bar Harbor Maine
Hi Chris Renna here today is the 11th day video of my 25 day video challenge , today is may 11th 2017. Today's video is about Last summer my family and I took a road trip to bar harbor. Today's shout out goes to beckey who many moons ago I babysat, Becky is a fan of bar harbour as well. Bar Harbor is a beautiful town located on Maine's Mount Desert Island next to Acadia National Park. The spectacular beauty of the area attracted tourists as early as 19th century. Bar Harbor is one of the favorite tourist destinations on the East Coast, offering historic charm, a beautiful coastline and a range of activities.
Our main attraction we enjoyed was Acadia National Park, which today protects most of the island, and recently celebrated 100 years. While the quaint historic town of Bar Harbor provide more sophisticated entertainment with galleries, museums, theater, excellent restaurants, and shopping, most visitors come to enjoy shady trails of Acadia National Park, whale watching or fishing trips.
Acadia National Park is a spectacular national treasure on the rugged coast of Maine. Situated on Mount Desert Island, the park is part of a 47,000-acre Atlantic coast recreation area that features rocky beaches, pristine woodlands, The park is home to breathtaking natural landscapes as well as the Cadillac Mountain - the tallest mountain on the U.S. Atlantic coast.
Visitors to the park can enjoy a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and bird-watching, visitors should go to Hulls Cove Visitor Center. Where you can purchase a park pass for the week it's $25. Acadias historic carriage roads Forty-five miles of rustic carriage roads, the gift of philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. and family, weave around the mountains and valleys of Acadia National Park. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, wanted to travel on motor-free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. Another must see is experiencing the sunset at Cadilac Mtn. It is an credible view. Also a very cool site is at Jordan pond, with the mountain view of bubble mountain. Unfortunately we didn't get tot go to the Jordan house for the famous popovers, we will just have to make sure we do that our next trip. Another really cool site is thunder hole, a Natural rock inlet where waves crash with a thunderous boom & high-flying foam when seas are up.
We stayed at Acadia Inn it sits on four acres bordering Acadia, comfortable, affordable rooms, family activities like movies on the lawn, s'mores by the fire out, and a pool. Breakfast is included and each afternoon they had a snack. It is minutes away from the park entrance. And away from the bar harbour hustle, but close enough to drive minutes away.
We loved our trip, and would recommend it to anyone. We will definitely make another trip there again some time in the future.
If you were even slightly entertained, please like, comment, and subscribe to my channel. Thanks have a great day?
