Upper Beehive Basin Trail - Big Sky, MT
Hiking up to the Spanish Peaks on the Upper Beehive Trail in Big Sky, MT. Many people use this area for back country skiing and snowshoeing. It's very beautiful year-round and provides a great workout to go along with the scenery.
Day 31 Ringing Rocks, Bozeman Montana, Beehive Basin Hike Big Sky, Grand Teton NP, Jackson Hole USA
Today we road trip from The Ringing Rocks in Montana to Jackson Hole Wyoming. There is so much to see and do including the city of Bozeman, Hike the Beehive Basin or 1 of many others in Big Sky Montana. Then you will want to head to Yellowstone national park and continue south to Grand Teton National Park. Then you can spend the night in Jackson Hole Wyoming.
The ringing rocks are unique rocks that play sounds like a piano or other instrument when struck with something metal like a hammer. Bozeman is home of Montana State University and just north of Big Sky and Yellowstone. Its a fun city and very beautiful all around. In Big Sky there are lots of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, white water rafting, skiing, snowboarding and more.
Then Yellowstone National park is one of the best parks in my opinion. There is so much to see and do I cannot list it all. Old Faithful is the most well known. Then the Grand Tetons are amazing too with the entire mountain range that lines the park! And of course you have to visit the old west town of Jackson. It feels so cowboy and yet thriving with city life!
Let's start a movement. Traveling before or while in college should be commonplace and expected. The power of travel is life-changing and has the potential to enhance society overall. When you travel you learn AMAZING things about yourself, the people around you, the world around you and the opportunities there are.
Without travel I argue that you will never realize your fullest potential because there is so much that you are missing out. Traveling even the smallest of distances will change the way your mind thinks and lead to what society needs most, people who have found a passion, are pursuig it and discovering breakthrough technologies, theories, lifestyles, careers and more.
In Europe this is already commonplace to take a semester, summer, month or year off to explore the EU before or during college. I want to make it commonplace in the United States of America as well. It is possible to do it on any budget and I help people learn how to make it a reality. Find out more at:

Horseback Riding Big Sky Montana
Join Travel Writer Nancy D. Brown on a horseback riding vacation at The Club at Spanish Peaks in Big Sky, Montana. Ride in the Gallatin National Forest next to Leed Metcalf Wilderness, Big Sky Ski Resort, Lone Peak, Beehive Basin and Yellowstone National Park.
Ousel Falls Trail - Big Sky, MT
Ousel Falls Trail is a very well maintained, hiking / walking / running, 1.7 mile out and back trail to beautiful Ousel Falls in Big Sky, MT. While the trail has a couple of small elevation climbs, for the most part it can be enjoyed by everyone of all ages. The first view of the falls is even wheelchair accessible.
Upon arriving at the falls, there are several additional lookout points to hike to from top to bottom. Many runners will use Ousel Falls as a destination point for a long run and cool off in the pools just below the falls.
Overall, Ousel Falls is just a great, quick, easy trail with excellent scenery.
298 Ridge Fork Road in Big Sky, Montana
Framed by Lone Peak and Yellow Mountain in Southwest Montana's Gallatin Mountain Range, just 20 miles from Yellowstone National Park, and 5 miles to the biggest ski area in the country, sits a 22-acre parcel near the year-round North Fork Trailhead. From here, you can access hundreds of miles of trails for horseback riding, back-country and groomed cross-country skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, hunting, and recreational ingress to a vast wilderness. Its quiet, private location is complimented by ridgetop views of surrounding mountains and valleys, with no other rooftops in sight. Lone Mountain Ranch, a family guest ranch just down the road, maintains over 85 km of trails. Beyond that, the Gallatin National Forest and Spanish Peaks Wilderness Area offer recreational opportunities to your heart's content.
The Main Home welcomes you with a massive 2-story stone fireplace and log accents, which precede a great room with vaulted ceilings and warm light from a large array of south-facing windows. An open floorplan allows the living space to flow into a dining area and kitchen, all with high ceilings and a true Montana atmosphere. A sunroom off of the kitchen offers a western-facing spot to relax after a day of skiing or hiking. It features 3 Master Suites on two levels, each with its own propane fireplace and private access to decks with gorgeous mountain views.
The barn, completed in 2011, is perhaps the best in Big Sky. 4 stalls, each with their own runout, showcase the finest finishes a horse and its owner would appreciate. A separate shower bay with adjoining commercial grade washer and dryer makes caring for your horses and their blankets simple and comfortable. The garage space accommodates hay storage, 3-cars, a full size RV... all on the barn's lower level. Upstairs, you'll find upscale guest quarters with incredible views and modern touches. There are two grazing pastures which can accommodate up to 4 horses.
For the Big Sky recreational enthusiast, there is no better spot than 298 Ridge Fork Road.

Mount Blackmore 1/17/18
Damien and I found Mt Blackmore to possess some of the best ski lines we have ever encountered! The trail is well traveled and a skin track goes nearly to the summit. Some beta suggests bringing an ice axe and crampons to reach the summit, but we did not find them necessary. The final 200 feet is boot packed, however. Most people ski off the shoulder. However, Damien and I opted for the steeper summit descent. We could not have asked for more perfect conditions on on such a fun slope. There was even a small half pipe between cliffs! Another excellent day in the Gallaitin Range!

Hilgard Peak Summit Panorama - 11,316' - Madison Range - Montana
Hilgard Peak sits at 11,316' in the Taylor Hilgard Unit of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness in the Madison Range of Montana. Hilgard is the highest peak in the Madison Range and the highest peak in Montana outside of the Beartooths. This remote mountain can be accessed numerous ways, but it is a remote peak regardless of the approach. Climbing Hilgard Peak is an exposed and rocky climb that could be considered fifth class due to exposure.
The still photos at the beginning of this video were taken during our approach to Hilgard, from the summit of Sentinel Mountain, and the summit of Echo Peak. The views from the top are outstanding.
