The 8-0--BREW - Switchback Brewing, Burlington VT
Today, we've made the trek up to Burlington, Vermont to visit one of the most popular and well known breweries in the state. Switchback Brewing, was founded in 2002 by Bill Cherry and his best friend, Jeff. Switchback is known for their great ale that can be found all over the state of Vermont and is probably in a local pub around you. Their beers, bottled or barreled, are all non filtered, giving their beer a unique and complex flavor. We had a chance to catch up with head brewer Jeff Tomaino and have him walk us through a batch of their switchback ale. We also meet up with owner, brew-master, and craft brew legend Bill Cherry to get the low down on the history of switchback and see what inspires him to keep brewing great Vermont craft brews. To round out our tour at switchback, we headed over to the switchback tasting room where Sara Diaz took us through a tasting of Switchbacks ale, Citra-Pils, and their Connector IPA along with some of their rotating specials. All of this and more on this episode of the eight oh brew!

This will be the fourth installment of the Bikes & Beers series, an ongoing effort to join the passion of bicycling with a growing enthusiasm for local craft beer all across Conn. Participants will take part in an organized bicycle ride, broken up into groups to allow riders at all levels of skill and experience to enjoy themselves.
I'm not in great shape and I hadn't ridden a bike since high school, said Dan Johnson, a participant in a recent Bikes & Beers event. But I ended up having a blast on the ride; and the beer tasted all the better after working off some calories.
Once the ride is completed, the cyclists will gain exclusive access to Eli Cannon's, which will be closed to the general public on the night of the event.
We're normally closed on Mondays, said Carrie Carella, head manager at Eli Cannon's. But we wanted to do something special and decided to open our doors and provide something that will set this night apart from previous Bikes & Beers rides. This is going to be a truly unique event!
The staff at Eli Cannon's will be pulling out all the stops for this ride's after party by providing their always extensive offering of craft beer, along with a selection of complimentary food and a limited menu for those that want something more. Connecticut's own New England Brewing Company will augment Eli Cannon's extensive tap list with some of the finest locally crafted beer available in the state. The night will be topped off with live music from The Clams a local instrumental band that specializes in 1960s surf rock.
This event will have a little something for everyone. So whether you're an avid bike rider, who loves live music, or you're a craft beer fan who needs to borrow a bike from a friend, you don't want to miss this exclusive event, be sure to RSVP on the CT Beer Trail website.
Riders will meet at the Pedal Power bicycle shop in Middletown and will depart between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. depending on their experience level. Once the ride is finished, participants are welcome to park their bicycles in the Pedal Power shop and head over to Eli Cannon's for the after party.
Complete details on the ride can be found online:
Pedal Power and the CT Beer Trail have two additional rides planned for the remainder of the year, including a ride scheduled with Plan B in Simsbury and a Halloween costume themed ride with the folks at Willimantic Brewing Co. More details on upcoming rides can be found at ctbeertrail.net.

Episode # 28 - Heady Topper, The Alchemist Brewery and Co-Founder John Kimmich
Source:
Michael interviews the legendary John Kimmich, Co-Founder of The Alchemist Brewery in Stowe, VT to discuss the success of Heady Topper and give us insights on how he produces some of the most sought after beer in the WORLD.
The Alchemist is a family run brewery specializing in fresh, unfiltered IPA. John and Jen Kimmich originally opened The Alchemist as a 60 seat brew pub in the village of Waterbury in 2003. After eight years of success and growing popularity, they decided to open a small production brewery. Today The Alchemist currently operates two breweries in Vermont and handles all local distribution.
THE ALCHEMIST – WATERBURY
In early 2011 we built the Alchemist Cannery, a 15 barrel brewery and canning line, for the production of our flagship IPA Heady Topper. The first cans of Heady Topper rolled off the line just two days after Tropical Storm Irene demolished The Alchemist Pub and Brewery. Today, we move all of our beer weekly in a concerted effort to provide the freshest, hoppiest packaged IPA on the market. Heady Topper is brewed only in Waterbury, Vermont and is distributed within a 25 mile radius. Our Waterbury brewery is not open to the public. However, we distribute a portion of Heady Topper to our Stowe brewery and Visitor’s Center for retail sales and tasting. If you are not visiting our Stowe Visitor’s Center and would like to purchase Heady Topper elsewhere, please visit our WHERE TO BUY page to find a retailer close to you.
THE ALCHEMIST – STOWE
Opened in July 2016, this state of the art facility was designed to be as low impact as possible while providing us with enough space to serve our community and the growing number of beer tourists to Vermont. Our second year round beer, Focal Banger, is brewed in Stowe as well as seasonal beers that rotate throughout the year. The Alchemist Brewery and Visitor’s Center in Stowe provides samples of beer for tasting, retail beer sales, merchandise and a fun, educational experience.

Magic Hat Presents... Single Chair
Single Chair Ale takes its name from a truly unique piece of American history: the Single Chair lift at Mad River, one of only two in the country. We share a similar vision with this mountain: To be part of a community, and to be as dedicated to the enjoyment of brewing as Mad River is to the sport of skiing. As winter’s cover melts to reveal spring’s hidden life, take a ride to the top on the Single Chair and celebrate your independent spirit.

Bully Boy Distillers - Launched On a Leap of Faith
In the midst of a renaissance for small batch spirits and Americans' seemingly relentless thirst for innovative craft cocktails, Bully Boy Distillers couldn't have shown up at a better time...
Launched in 2011 by brothers Will and Dave Willis, Bully Boy is one of a number of distilleries - including Ipswich-based Privateer Rum and Grand Ten in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood - that recently opened up shop in Massachusetts. With sharp packaging and a unique line-up of unaged spirits - the brand rapidly gained a popular following among dozens of bars and restaurants, as well as a range of wine and liquor stores in New England.
While it may have been a quick rise to acceptance and popularity for Bully Boy, the planning and eventual launch of the distillery was far from fast and easy. In this segment - culled from once thought to be lost footage - we speak the Willis brothers about the catalyst moment when they decided to drop well-established careers and start their distillery. The pair also discuss the difficult and complex process of state and federal licensing for a new alcoholic beverage company and how, in the end, Bully Boy required a true leap of faith.
Modern Times Beer Fortunate Islands Wheat Ale
The California Beer Train (choo choo) is full steam ahead and pulling up to our first destination in San Diego. The taps began flowing in June of 2013 for Modern Times Beer and since then they have slowly been building not only a stable of year round releases, but some special limited options as well. When not found at your local restaurant in Southern California, their beer is available in 4-packs of pint cans. That vessel is what brought the Fortunate Islands Pale Wheat Ale to our tasting table today. Brewed using a blend of Citra and Amarillo hops, this sessionable almost wheat IPA is going for big flavor and easy drinking. The only problem with that is for us living in Southern Arizona if we like it, we can't get anymore until our next trip! If you have any ideas for future episodes of Give It A Shot or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

Otter Creek Brewing / Lawson's Finest Liquids Double Dose IPA - What Cheers! Review #071
I just got back from Vermont after being lucky enough to hang and drink a lot of incredible brews with both of the dudes who made this beer!!! Check it out. Cheers.
In the Green Mountains, the landscape is dotted with breweries that have established Vermont as one of the premier beer destinations in the world. We pack a lot into our little state--abundant local foods, great music, natural beauty, and amazing beer. Vermonters know the finest things in life are best enjoyed with good buds. Friends and brewers Sean Lawson and Mike Gerhart have teamed up to create a beer that features the best qualities of each brewery.
Lawson, the bold and adventurous brewer of Lawson's Finest Liquids, has earned a reputation for top-notch IPA's and award winning maple beers. Fans flock to central Vermont in search of Lawson's small-batch bottled creations and to enjoy his draught beer at a select handful of beer bars and restaurants.
Gerhart is a rising-star of the Green Mountain beer scene. With a polished background at some of the most prestigious breweries in the United States, his hard work and commitment to excellence can be tasted in every batch of Otter Creek beer.
Otter Creek and Lawson's Finest have gone to great lengths to deliver the highest quality beer that includes water from each brewery, locally sourced specialty malt, and a dose of freshly harvested Vermont hops. This collaboration creation combines the talents of the two brewers into the uniquely delicious Double Dose IPA--brewed in the spirit of friendship, fun and really great beer.

Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory & Cold Hollow Cider Mill - RV Living Travel Day - Waterbury, VT
On this travel day we move through Waterbury, Vermont, tasting all the delicious food that Vermont is known for. Our first stop is Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory. Here we sample the flavor of the day, watch how the ice cream is packaged, and explore the flavor graveyard. Next we check out Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Here the kids learn how apple cider is made, and we taste apple cider and delicious apple cider doughnuts. We were able to bring our RV into the parking lots at each of these places, but spaces were tight and the roads were narrow. We didn't show it in the video, but Cabot Cheese is also in Waterbury and makes delicious cheeses!
