DLynn Proctor (SOMM) on Wine Tasting 101 for Financial Advisors & Hosting Events for the Affluent
Are you a newcomer? I have a playlist for you:
TODAY’S GUEST: DLynn Proctor - on Wine Tasting 101 for Financial Advisors, Hosting Events for the Affluent & A Customer Service Lesson from The French Laundry.
Welcome back to The Elite Advisor Blueprint! This week, I have a total bucket list moment. It was a show first, as I got to taste a couple of wines with my guest - and one of the foremost Sommelier wine experts in the world, DLynn Proctor. He's currently the winemaking ambassador for Penfolds Americas (yes, that famous Australian winery that produces one of the most iconic bottles in the world, Penfolds Grange)! If you love wine or want to hear about hosting incredible events that will blow your clients away ... you don't want to miss this unique conversation!
DLynn has been recognized as Wine Enthusiast Magazine's 40 Under 40 Tastemakers and has been featured in notable publications like Wine Spectator, The Tasting Panel, The New York Times and the Huffington Post.
Our paths crossed when DLynn was featured in one of my favorite documentaries of all time - the internationally acclaimed ‘SOMM’ directed by our mutual friend Jason Wise. You’ll hear plenty about the movie during our conversation, but do yourself a favor: If you love wine or just an incredible story, go watch this movie. I bet it will blow your mind like it did mine the first time I watched it!
And don't miss DLynn's free gift to The Elite Advisor Blueprint® Podcast listeners: A document that I like to call Hosting Your Own Wine Events 101 For Financial Advisors.” Think of it like a to-do list / checklist / timeline on everything required to host a great wine tasting. Perfect if this episode inspires you to host your own wine events.

American History (After Hours): The Judgement of Paris and American Wine
On May 16, 2016, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris with a special American History (After Hours) program at the museum with wine tastings, food, and dynamic conversation. The Judgment of Paris was a pivotal moment forty years ago when American winemakers surprised a panel of French wine experts (and the world) by placing first in a blind tasting that pitted the new American wines against the best of France.
Watch the panel discussion from this evening about the legacy of the Judgment of Paris and American wine history featuring experts and some of the original participants:
Steven Spurrier – The organizer of the 1976 Judgment of Paris.
George Taber – The only journalist to cover the tasting and author of Judgment of Paris (New York: Scribner, 2005).
Warren Winiarski – The winemaker of the winning 1973 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon and founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars
Bo Barrett – The CEO and former winemaker at Chateau Montelena Winery and son of the late Jim Barrett who owned Chateau Montelena at the time of the Judgment of Paris.
Violet Grgich – The daughter of Mike Grgich, the winemaker of the winning 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay and founder of the winery, Grgich Hills Estate, where Violet is co-proprietor.
Ted Baseler – The CEO of Ste. Michelle Estates and CEO of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars.
Moderated by Paula Johnson, Curator, National Museum of American History.

Eric Shevchenko: Old World Farms - Changing the Food System from the Ground Up | Talks at Google
In this video, Eric Shevchenko joins Googler Scott Munekawa to discuss the current state of food around the world right now and what things are affecting consumers and farmers, including emotional buying by consumers and the importance of supporting local farms and how that helps minimize our carbon footprint.
Eric, who was born and raised in Michigan, learned about farming from his Ukrainian grandfather, Dedushka Shevchenko, who raised rabbits for food and taught his grandson the best diet to feed rabbits for the best-tasting meat and how to properly clean and age rabbit meat the old-fashioned way, without the benefit of a freezer or refrigerator. His love and care for the animals in his charge and passion for growing and eating other fresh, mostly homegrown foods, were passed down to Eric, who grew up with a love for animals of all kinds.
