Video of my family walking on the Sky-walk at the Grand Canyon. Special thanks to the local staff for letting me wear the helmet cam! Most people are not allowed to take a camera on the Sky-walk however because the GoPro was mounted to my helmet they allowed it.

Railroad Tunnels Trail Hoover Dam Night Hike Las Vegas Lake Mead
Summary: Railroad tunnel trail is a small portion of the 30 mile long River Mtns trail system. A haven for mountain bikers is Bootleg Canyon, west of this tunnel trail -- a dream come true within a protected big horn sheep area, with views of the lake, valleys & peaks. This tunnel trail follows the elevated RR bed used to haul supplies used in construction of Hoover Dam 1931 - 1935. The tracks continued in use until 1961, dismantled in 1962, and added to Natl Register of Historic Places in 1984. Since converted to bicycle/hiking trail (no horses on this portion), it is a easy, level, wide gravel walk for tourists and beginners; hiking under 5 tunnels, which are each 300' long and 25' in diameter. The 5th tunnel was opened in 2001, and this trail will eventually go all the way to Hoover Dam. End of trail is located directly under the Lakeview Point scenic overlook (reached by Hwy 93, W of dam), just before the security checkpoint and maintenance yard. Dry & Hot ! FOLLOW MOUNTAIN DO

Mojave Desert, Afton Canyon trains and bridges
A visit to Afton Canyon of the Mojave Desert outside Barstow, CA. The canyon is the current route of the Union Pacific Railroad and historically was the route of the old Mojave Road that was used in wagon train days for crossing the desert from the Colorado River to Barstow. Today the access is by hiking or 4x4 vehicle with care needed when crossing a deep section of water at the West end of the route. Filmed with DJI Mavic 2 Pro and iphone.
A long drive to the shooting spot north of Las Vegas on US95
Ever wonder where in the desert we go to shoot? Here is a video that shows you how far we actually drive condensed to a little under 2 minutes.
The Horned Lizard of Washington
Having lived in the northwest for many years I was unaware that one of the smallest horned lizards lives in OR/WA/NV/CA/ID. I thought I was going to have to drive over many states to find them and only recently learned that they are about 90 minutes from home. I am thrilled that this small specialized little eater of ants is on Washington's short list of native lizards. The rattlesnake was a nice surprise to cross our path in bright daylight. I think it was somewhere between 3'6 and 4' -- which is huge, the longest and fattest northern pacific I've ever seen. Beth took all the good photos on this trip.
Check out Deep Look and their short documentary on the 3 male color phases of the side-blotched lizard. Fascinating stuff!

Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area - Overview
Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area's 48,438 acres provide peace and solitude for those who visit the unique scenic and geologic features and extraordinary cultural resources. Surroundings can vary from lowland dry lake beds to volcanic rock peaks reaching more than 5,000 feet.
The centerpiece of the area is the Sloan Canyon Petroglyph Site, one of the most significant cultural resources in Southern Nevada. Archeologists believe the more than 300 rock art panels with 1,700 individual design elements were created by native cultures from the Archaic to to historic era.
The West offers some of the most remarkable landscapes found on BLM managed public lands. Many of these places have received special recognition and protection through congressional or presidential conservation designations. National Conservation Areas are designated by Congress to conserve, protect, enhance and manage public land areas for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations. Sloan Canyon was designated as a National Conservation Area in 2002 and responsible use of the area is encouraged.

Boulder City
In 1928, President Calvin Coolidge signed the Boulder Canyon Project Act which authorized the building of Hoover Dam and the creation of Boulder City. For years, the Colorado River flowed uninterrupted from the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of California. Its unpredictable path often caused flooding in the spring, and then it would dry up in the summer. By the 1920s, it became apparent that something needed to be done to control the route of the lower Colorado. The only way to do this was to construct a dam and harness the river while providing flood control and badly needed electricity to the western states. A company composed of six separate construction companies was awarded the contract to build the dam in 1931.

WHDH-TV Bozo the Clown 1966
Boston's original Channel 5, WHDH-TV, produced a local, weekday version of the Bozo the Clown children's program between 1959 and 1970. Booth announcer Frank Avruch played the title role. These excerpts are from a 1966 broadcast.
Episodes videotaped at WHDH between 1965 and '67 were syndicated to markets that did not produce a local version of the show.

* Recollections from former WHDH-TV employee Ron Hopkins via tvdvdreviews:
I worked in the Music Dept. of WHDH-TV/Channel 5 in the 1960s. Ed Carroll Spinney was Grandma Nellie, Mr. Lion and Kookie Kangaroo, along with a few others. Del Grosso was Clank the Robot. The reason for each playing more than one character was that it gave the show more variety and allowed them to work several days a week.
During the Holiday Season, those of us in the Music Dept. would wear the costumes of the characters so that they could appear all on the same show. Ed Spinney would do the voice of each character off camera.
When Frank Avruch was sick or injured - he broke his hip playing handball - Romper Room's Miss Jean's husband Bill Harrington would play Bozo's brother Nozo.
Ed Spinney went on to become Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street.
