Harris Beach State Park - Brookings, Oregon
Part of the 2018-19 Snowbird Trip playlist.
In this video, I show you a bit of the pretty Harris Beach State Park campground. The campsites are set in a pretty forest on a bluff overlooking a beautiful beachscape. Access to the beach is a few minutes walk or drive away.
Harris Beach State Park is located in Brookings on the Oregon Coast. We visited in mid-November on our way south for the winter. Full hookups for $32 a night.
I was impressed by the views and the number of beaches and trails to explore along this section of the coast. Many great nooks, crannies, and little coves to chill out at or take in the sunset.
The weather was nice with highs in the 60s and little wind. Not usually the case during the wet, stormy fall.

Boondocking in the Valley of the Gods in Southern Utah
See full blog post and photos -
RVing friends of ours raved about the Valley of the Gods. Free camping in a gorgeous Utah red rock desert paradise. Man! They were right!
In this video I give you some highlights of our boondocking spot and some of the road that runs through the Valley of the Gods, plus some still photos I took. If you're afraid to scratch the RV this isn't the place for you, but if you love off the beaten path scenic beauty this is definitely the place for you.
We had a fantastic time camping with some Wyoming RV friends and enjoyed hiking, the wildlife and of course photography. Two thumbs up from Love Your RV!

Stealth Van Camping in Sun Valley Idaho // Craters of the Moon // Sawtooth Scenic Quest Drive
This was my first time stealth camping in a city, albeit small city of Ketchum, Idaho in Sun Valley resort area. I also visited Craters of the Moon National Monument, which was just a several hours in the park, and then made my way around the Sawtooth scenic drive from Shoshone, Idaho to Boise, Idaho through the Sawtooth National Forest.
Ketchum and the Sun Valley area was pretty cool in the summer and OMG the views, the land, the day use parks - it was all amazing. It was a bit expensive in town to eat and grocery shop, but it was well worth the time there.
I spent about a day and half between BLM land in the Sawtooth National Forest that was very close to Ketchum and then stealth camped in the downtown (residential) area of Ketchum. This was my first time stealth camping - and is completely legal in Ketchum during the non winter seasons to overnight on specific streets. You'll want to review their parking map to make sure you're in compliance else you'll get a knock on your door at night or towed.
My Hymer Aktiv van is doing well and I love the ability to stealth camp, hang out in the cities, go to restaurants and groceries without having to scope out the parking ahead of time. I love my Hymer! My Hymer Aktiv is a great van to full time in as long as you can adapt to a more minimalist life.

Abandoned UNTOUCHED House Full of Vintage Belongings (Cinematic)
Somewhere in Mississippi there is an abandoned home full of vintage belongings. The house appears completely untouched aside from the natural decay that looks to have occurred over decades of abandonment. The exploration video of this location will be out next week.

ODOT Commission Meeting- April 2, 2018
April Commission Wrap-Up: Drivers urged to be alert in highway work zones; more than $81 million in contracts awarded
Highlights of the Oklahoma Transportation Commission’s Monday, April 2 meeting include the kick off of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s month-long Work Zone Awareness campaign, updates on legislation affecting state transportation funding and a federal grant for railroad improvements in western Oklahoma. Contracts were awarded for bridge reconstruction on I-35 in Oklahoma City, bridge replacement over I-244 in Tulsa and city street reconstruction in Woodward.
Secretary of Transportation and ODOT Executive Director Mike Patterson welcomed Gov. Mary Fallin to the commission meeting to read a proclamation designating April 2 through May 2 as Work Zone Awareness Month in Oklahoma. The proclamation kicks off the agency’s month-long Your Life Matters: Drive Like It campaign targeting driver behavior in highway work zones. In the past five years, 75 people, including four ODOT workers were killed in work zone collisions. In her proclamation, Fallin noted that 60 ODOT workers have been killed in the line of duty, more than any other state agency.
Patterson reported to the commission on House Bill 1010xx approved by the legislature and governor to increase state taxes on gasoline and diesel for the first time since 1987. The additional fuel tax revenue won’t increase state transportation funding but will take the place of income tax revenue currently going to ODOT, which will instead be returned to the state’s general fund to help fund other areas of government.
“This increase in state revenue is good news for ODOT because $840 million has been diverted from transportation since 2010 to help balance the state’s budget,” Patterson said. “This new revenue will help free up income tax revenue for other core areas of government like education, health care and public safety.”
Patterson also announced that Oklahoma was successful in receiving a federal grant for railroad improvements in western Oklahoma. A nearly $10 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant was recently awarded to ODOT to improve 17 bridges and 132 miles of railroad between Enid and Elk City operated by Farmrail, allowing for the line to accommodate increased freight capacity and higher travel speeds.
The commission voted to award a contract for an up to $30 million project to replace the I-35 bridges over the Deep Fork Creek just south of the I-44 interchange in Oklahoma City. The project is expected to take more than one and a half years to complete and the contract includes financial incentives for early completion. The interstate is anticipated to remain open to traffic during construction.
Commissioners also approved a $5 million contract to replace the 129th East Ave. bridge over I-244 in Tulsa and an $8.5 million contract to reconstruct more than two miles of 34th St. south of US-412 in Woodward using federal and local funds.
Commissioners voted to award 32 contracts totaling more than $81 million to improve highways, roads and bridges in 25 counties. Contracts were awarded for projects in Alfalfa, Cleveland, Comanche, Custer, Dewey, Jackson, Kiowa, Latimer, LeFlore, McClain, Mayes, Muskogee, Noble, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Okmulgee, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Texas, Tulsa, Washington and Woodward counties. A list of all awarded contracts may be found by visiting odot.org/contracts, selecting the March 2018 letting and clicking Go and then Award.
The eight-member panel, appointed by the governor to oversee the state’s transportation development, awards project contracts for road and bridge construction every month. The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 7.
Contracts, bid information, the commission’s monthly agenda and project details can be viewed at odot.org.
