Four days in Bilbao & San Sebastian, a lot of pintxos and big waves | Foodporn Trip #1
A movie was captured in september during my Basque foodporn trip to Bilbao & San Sebastian. Amazing time, so it was hard to squeeze our experiences in only 4 minutes, but finally I've done it. You could probably fill at least a week with the endless awesome cultural, gustatory, and fun things to do in Bilbao and La Rioja in North Spain (to me, one of the best places in Spain!).

3. EPIC PINTXOS IN SAN SEBASTIAN! ????

When you go to San Sebastian, it’s all about eating pintxos (the local form of tapas). The pintxo bars in this city are incredible. But the historic centre can get really busy. So in this video, my Devour Tours co-founder Lauren and I head to the neighbourhood of Gros (only a 10 minute walk from the history centre) and visit 9 of the best local pintxo bars there.
At each of the 9 places we try the specialty pintxo - everything from foie, to anchovies, to cured pork belly, to cod, to the most amazing fresh tomatoes and even dessert. And in each of the 9 pintxo bars, we’re largely surrounded by locals. So this gives us a great insight into the true local pintxo culture.
I give lots of tips for how to navigate a pinxto bar. And I also show you all the local drinks you should be enjoying with your pintxos. From the local white wine Txakoli, to super dry Basque cider to Rioja (from just 2 hours north), you’ll really get the low down and what drinks to pair with your pintxos!

Bilbao Travel - Pintxos and Txakoli
We arrive in Bilbao, Spain and explore the city. We walk around the vibrant pedestrian river walk area by the Guggenheim Museum. We stumble across a street fair. Then, as it begins to rain a little, we explore the old town Casco Viejo area. We try local appetizers known as Pintxos and the local white wine called Txakoli.

MUNCHIES is back in San Sebastian for a Michelin-starred chef blowout in the final installment of our Guide to the Basque Country. We’ll get a look inside the kitchen of the legendary Martín Berasategui, godfather of Basque nouvelle cuisine and holder of seven Michelin stars total in restaurants across the world.
Finally, a trip to the Basque Country wouldn’t be complete without a night out getting pissed on Txakoli wine and stuffing your face with pintxos. And while she gets wasted, Irene is rolling deep with three more Michelin-starred chefs: Dani López, Gorka Txapartegi, and Joxe Mari Arbelaitz.

SPAIN - Bilbao - Pinchos, Old Town, and the Funicular - Day 10
Day 10 of 42 in Europe... we started the day off right with coffee, pinchos, and wine (breakfast of champions) before needing to stop for sangria. Did I mention Europe is experiencing a heat wave? Gotta hydrate!
Then, we explore the Old Town area of Bilbao, including the original 7 streets from the original 1300's walled city. We also check out the Ribera Market. Then, (if you’re still watching after the 45 second history lesson) the fun continues. Ooey, gooey, cheesy fun.
Plus, we take the funicular to the top of Archanda Mountain to check out panoramic views of Billbao. It was a hazy, rainy day up there, but we had fun anyway!

RUN : Nervión River - Bilbao - Spain
Welcome to Bilbao!
This is a running trail in the capital of the Basque Country located in Northern Spain.
Its an autumn morning and the weather is very typical of Bilbao, a little cloudy and it has been raining a little the night before, Txirimiri, as the locals call it.
The Bilbao metropolitan area has a population of just under 1 million making it one of the major cities in Spain. With a steep history in exporting of iron, the city´s port is world famous, but the city has more recently received a serious makeover with its now most iconic building the Guggenheim Museum being built back in 1997. The riverbanks along the Nervión have been completely transformed and this trail will take you along it between both historic buildings and superb modern architecture.
Look out for the Calatrava bridge, the town hall and several points of interest, including the Guggenheim of course where a surprise is waiting!...
Bilbao cannot be visited without mention of the biggest football team in the region, Athletic Club Bilbao. The trail finishes up just near the San Mamés Stadium where the “Lions” play there games in the Spanish La Liga.
We were here in Autumn, but we would recommend this city for all seasons, mainly for the food scene (try the so called “Pintxos) which is incredible but also in early Summer when you can head to nearby Mundaka, a famous surfing spot.
