The great American vacation: Rapid City
Rapid City doesn’t get its fair share of attention. Nor does the region itself. The terrain here in western South Dakota—from the Black Hills to the Badlands to the sweeping grasslands—has an otherworldly power you have to experience to understand.
The nexus of all this terrain is Rapid City. From here, our crew ventured out to awesome local sites. Traveling as a family, they wanted to see lots of wildlife, and so they hit up the Reptile Gardens as well as Bear Country USA. They also weren’t afraid of some classic video game action at the Press Start Arcade, nor some rad “mountain coaster” rides at the Rush Mountain Adventure Park. Finally, they explored Badlands National Park and of course got some great shots of Mt. Rushmore.
Plan to spend at least a week in this area when you come through, and know that Rapid City is ready serve as your ultimate home base.

Black Hills SD 2018
The Black Hills of South Dakota was one of the most pleasant surprises on our trip. There is so much to do there! The scenery is beautiful and the people are so friendly. Was it just a coincidence that we ended up there during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally....????????♀️

EXPLORING KEYSTONE, SOUTH DAKOTA
Keystone is a town in the Black Hills region of Pennington County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 337 at the 2010 census. It had its origins in 1883 as a mining town, and has since transformed itself into a resort town, serving the needs of the millions of visitors to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, which is located just beyond city limits. Keystone was heavily damaged in the 1972 Black Hills flood.
The town took its name from a local mine, which most likely was named after the keystone Masonic symbol.

Victoria Lake - Rapid City, SD | August 2018
Watch as Alexis and I explore Loop 15 at Victoria Lake near Rapid City, South Dakota. This was my first time riding here and really my first time visiting the Black Hills in South Dakota. This ride was one that popped up on Trailforks and MTB Project when we were searching for places to ride in the Black Hills and even though it was pretty well rated we weren't sure what to expect. As you will see this trail threw a lot at us! Stream crossings, meadowy sections, technical climbing, nice woods and pines, fun downhill/flowy/rocky sections and a few other surprises!
Virtual touring Rapid City, South Dakota
Let's explore the world through Google Street View.
Today we are visiting Rapid City South Dakota. This is a pretty place with plenty of history and neat old buildings. There are wide streets all around and plenty of shopping in all the storefronts. Sitting on a creek and next huge hills and mountains, this would be a great place to live if you love the outdoors. I really want to visit this part of the US soon. Maybe I will stop in Rapid City!
Here you can check out where we have been on Google Maps.
Thanks to Google for Street View.
