Ducati 500 GP Bicilindrica, Ducati Museum, Borgo Panigale, Bologna, Italy, Europe
The 500 GP is a competitive motorbike built by Ducati from 1971 to 1972. The 500 Grand Prix request came to the 70s by the General Director of Ducati, eager to return to the races he had left at the end of 1958. Fabio Taglioni, head of the technical office of the Borgo Panigale House, resumed two ideas already experimented in the past: the distribution driven by conic pairs, already used successfully on the road and competition Ducati, and the 90 ° V engine, used on the 1962 Apollo prototype. The first version of the bike was made in a short time, starting from a ground-breaking, thermally-engineered engine crankcase, and an elaborate Ducati 250 road construction, an open double cradle, Ceriani suspension, disc brakes. The engine could have two or four valves per cylinder head, with a power output of 63 hp at 11,500 rpm for the two-valve version and 65 hp at 12,000 rpm for the four valves; In the final version (two valves) the power went up to 72 hp at 11,000-12,000 rpm. Subsequently the bike was revised in the chassis, now made by British specialist Colin Seeley and tested, among others, by Mike Hailwood. The debut took place on March 14, 1971 in Modena, the first race of the Italian Championship: the two-cylinder Bolognese were called Bruno Spaggiari and Ermanno Giuliano, who both withdrew. In the second race on April 12 in Imola, Giuliano was second behind Giacomo Agostini, with Spaggiari still retired. The same result a week later in Cesenatico. On May 30, in Škofja Loka, Gilberto Parlotti gave Ducati his first (and only) victory. On the occasion of the GP of the Nations, the bicilindrica Bolognese also made his debut debut: Spaggiari withdrew, while Phil Read was fourth. English was the protagonist of a good performance at Sanremo on 10 October, second behind Agostini and in front of the other Ducati of Parlotti and Giuliano. In the 1972 season the Ducati 500 was deployed to the National GP: Spaggiari was third and Paul Smart fourth. After this performance, the 500 GP was deployed in favor of a three-cylinder engine in conjunction with British engineer Harry Ricardo, who did not, however, gain any significant results because of severe mechanical problems. Ducati then devoted great success to the motorcycle races derived from the series, returning to the Motomondiale only in 2003 with Desmosedici.
Ducati 500 Pantah, Ducati Museum, Borgo Panigale, Bologna, Italy, Europe
The Ducati Pantah was an Italian motorcycle with a 90° V-twin engine, produced between 1980 and 1986. Unlike its predecessors which were bevel-gear OHC designs, the Pantah was the first Ducati to have belt-driven camshaft motors, thus forming the vanguard of the new generation of current Ducati V-twins. First shown December 1979, the Pantah came on the market as the 1980 500SL and the last of the line, the 650SL, was sold in 1986. Successful in racing as the 600 cc TT2 and later TT1 750 cc racer, the Pantah was a lighter, shorter wheelbase motorcycle, in a new trellis frame that was to become a trademark Ducati feature. When Ducati's 1976 350 cc and 500 cc parallel twins proved to be a marketing failure, Fabio Taglioni went to work developing the a replacement. The Pantah 500 was developed from the last of the GP500 racers of 1973, the Pantah and its successors have shown that, contrary to the received wisdom, a twin-cylinder biker can compete successfully against the fours. The Pantah was first shown at the Milan Bike Show in December 1979. The prototype was different again to Ducati’s earlier bikes: it had a trellis frame, with the suspended motor acting as a stressed member, and the swingarm pivoted on the rear of the crankcase. The single overhead camshaft was driven by toothed rubber belt and primary transmission was via Morse chain . The front disc brake was a Campagnolo Hydroconico. The Pantah's performance was impressive: 500 cc, 50 hp (36.5 kW) @ 8500 rpm, 180 kg, 1450 mm of wheelbase, significantly better from the earlier bevel-head V twins which were too long, bulky and stable for racing. The Pantah's performance easily surpassed that of the ill-conceived 1976 parallel twins. The 1980 Pantah 500SL had a plain bearing crankshaft and the same bore and stroke as the old 500 racer, 74 mm x 58 mm, but the head had a 60 degree included valve angle. The engines were noticeably lacking in bottom-end and mid-range torque, but theyrevved freely enough. The suspension seemed less precise than earlier Ducati models, and the 35 mm front forks lacked rigidity. Some riders found the final gearing too tall, and the intake and exhaust restrictive; but when these were changed for higher flow items with lowered gearing, it gave a performance increase.

What is the #Bologna Process?
The Bologna Process is a process of cooperation and reform in the field of higher education bringing together 48 countries.
It established and seeks to consolidate the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) with comparable and compatible systems of higher education in order to facilitate mobility, increase employability, allow equitable student access and progression and strengthen Europe’s attractiveness and competitiveness worldwide.
The main focus is:
• the introduction of the three cycle system (bachelor/master/doctorate)
• strengthened quality assurance and
• easier recognition of qualifications and periods of study
Why is it needed?
Widely differing education and training systems in Europe have traditionally made it hard for Europeans to use qualifications from one country to apply for a job or a course in another. Increased compatibility between education systems makes it easier for students and job seekers to move within Europe.
The Bologna Process also supports the modernisation of education and training systems to make sure these meet the needs of a changing labour market. This is important as the proportion of jobs requiring high skills grows, and the demand for innovation and entrepreneurship increases.
What are the main priority areas?
The Bologna Process Declarations and Communiqués contain both structural or systemic reforms and more general policy dimensions.
Structural or systemic reforms
Diploma supplement: The Diploma Supplement is a document issued to each graduate in addition to the qualification and describes the education system of the country, the education institution attended, the programme followed along with the main areas studied as part of the programme.
ECTS: The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System is based on the student workload and learning outcomes of a programme. It aims at facilitating mobility through credit transfer across institutions and countries.
Degree structure: Countries agreed to establish a common three-tiered degree structure of Bachelor (first cycle), Master (second cycle) and Doctorate (third cycle) with the possibility of a short cycle qualification forming part of the first cycle.
Quality Assurance: Cooperation on quality assurance in higher education at European level is aimed at developing common criteria and methodologies that will promote mutual trust and facilitate recognition of qualifications
