San Diego Border Field State Park Hike
This unique and quirky California State Park is located at the southern coastal edge of San Diego, where the beach meets the border fence with Mexico. In this video, I hike from the entry gate at Monument Road, to the beach, and then along the beach to the border fence and border monument.
The Border Field State Park is a part of San Diego that very people see. It's a most bizarre area that is characterized by farms, horse ranches, and the border patrol. On the United States side of the border, there's really not much. However, Mexico is built right up to the border fence. The beach on the United States side is empty, and there are often signs that warn of contaminated water. On the Mexico side, the beach is always filled with people, having fun, laughing, swimming, etc. In addition to hiking to the monument, this park is also popular with bird watchers and horse riders because it is a part of the Tijuana River Estuarine Research Reserve.
Visiting the park can be a somewhat unwelcoming, but rewarding experience. Don't let the lack of a grand entry/welcome deter you. I think most people get to the locked entry gate and just turn away. Armed with the information here, and in this video you'll be able to make it to the monument and see a side of San Diego that most people never get to see.

Take a walk with me in Imperial Beach, San Diego, California as we get something to eat, walk down the Imperial Beach pier and check out some local art work. We end our video by driving down to Border Field State Park where San Diego and Tijuana meet at the beach in Imperial Beach. The border fence is clearly visible with the iconic cylinder pillars that lead into the beach.

Friendship Park, at Border Fields Park, is the only place along the border where people can literally talk to each other across the fence -- for a few hours a week. It's kinda sad, but drug, gun, and people smuggling required a second fence to be built.

This is Border Field State Park, where the US-Mexico border hits the Pacific coastline.
The fence divides Tijuana and San Diego County, but right at the beach, it is only a loose steel fence, and Mexicans routinely come through to sit on an American beach, and to test the response of the border patrol agents, who are everywhere.
The guy in red is all dressed up to look like a gringo tourist, and you can hear him ask us if he looks Mexican, and my friend tells him Yes, but I tell him he'd pass.
It's a pretty surreal situation where you can have a conversation with a person in another country, who's trying to figure out a way to get into your country.

We have already looked at the Tijuana side of the wall in previous videos, so this time let's see how it looks from San Diego side.

San Diego: Border Patrol Pursuit 05042019
Before you read the description, I want to tell you all. I am very Pro Law Enforcement, but try to stay neutral when doing my stories. Except when it comes to the U.S. Border Patrol. While I want to believe that there are good people in this agency, I have had too many incidents with these so-called Law Enforcement Agents. There are too many of the uneducated bullying type people in this organization, that once they get the title of federal agent in front of their names, they believe that they are above the law, and they are all-powerful. I have been psychically assaulted, ran over and harassed too many times by these agents, and every time, they have been in the wrong. When I was run over by an agent on purpose, the CHP had the evidence and filed felony charges against the agent, but the SD District refused to file charges and had a history of ignoring the crimes committed by these federal agencies. In this case, they again did not want me taking video of this incident, and started harassing me, so I started talking back to them. The US Cons

Apparently, the Border Patrol Agents were chasing a Hispanic male in a car westbound on the border road between the fences. We do not know why they were pursuing the male. The road dead ends at the entrance to the Border Field State Park and the man took a dirt road that heads up the hills to the US/Mexican Border Fence. The suspect crashed his vehicle and had major injuries. The Border Patrol can be heard stating the suspect was going 90 mph to the SDFD Captain. The suspect was transported to local hospital for those injuries.

I spend a day in Imperial Beach, Ca! The most southwestern city! Right in the border if the U.S. and Mexico, this city offers amazing surf, great bars and brews, and one of the longest fishing piers in Southern California! It’s also home to the biggest Sandcastle Competition in California as well!
I also visited Border Field State Park and got to meet some of the locals on the Tijuana beach.
