Braunton is an English village, civil parish, ecclesiastical parish and former manor in North Devon. Braunton is situated 5 miles west of Barnstaple. Within the parish is the fertile, low-lying Braunton Great Field, which adjoins the undulating Braunton Burrows, the Core Area in North Devon Biosphere Reserve, the largest psammosere (sand dune system) in England. It confronts the Atlantic Ocean at the west of the parish at the large beach of Saunton Sands, one of the South West's international-standard surfing beaches.
Braunton was the chief manor of Braunton Hundred, and had been held by Saxon kings. Between 855 and 860 10 hides in Brannocminster were granted by King Æthelbald of Wessex to Glastonbury Abbey. Braunton Dean, which probably represented the land granted by King William the Conqueror to Algar the Priest at some time before the compilation of the Domesday Book of 1086.
Braunton Abbots, which extended also over part of the adjoining parish of Marwood. It was created by a grant from the remnant of the royal manor of Braunton by King Henry III (1216–1272) to Cleeve Abbey in Somerset.
Braunton Gorges, was held by the de Sachville family. Robert de Sachville (Latinized to de Siccavilla (from the dry town)) had been granted this part in 1202.
In 550 the missionary St. Brannock sailed from South Wales and converted the native Britons to Christianity. Brannock was a priest in the household of Brychan, King of Brecknock.
Since the closing years of the 20th century, the village has become a hub for surfing as it is on the main road gateway to three of the South West's surf beaches of Saunton, Croyde and Putsborough, all with fine powdery sand, and to a lesser extent a road to Woolacombe). The Museum of British Surfing opened in 2012 in the old goods shed of the old Braunton Railway Station on the Ilfracombe Branch Line.

Kingscote Station - Part 2 of 2
Kingscote railway station is a railway station on the Bluebell Railway. It was the northern terminus, prior to completion of the extension to East Grinstead. There is a small goods yard in which it is planned (under Bluebell's Long Term Plan) to recreate an authentic working 1950s country goods yard complete with Yard Crane, Cattle Pens and Coal Staithes.
The station has two operable platforms. During the winter most trains use Platform 1 whilst during the summer season Platform 2 is used more because it has access to the picnic area and refreshment stand.
The station was closed by British Railways on 29 May 1955 however when the line reopened in August 1956 when its closure was ruled illegal this station did not (along with Barcombe) . It was not mentioned in the original Act of Parliament so BR had no obligation to stop trains there. The line was again closed to regular passenger services in March 1958 but remained open for occasional use until 1963. The track was lifted about 1965 and the station site was sold privately. It was acquired by the Bluebell Railway in the 1980s when restoration work started. The Bluebell completed the extension from West Hoathly in 1994 when the station was reopened after restoration. The section of the line from Kingscote to East Grinstead was re-opened in 2013.
The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line running for 11 mi (17.7 km) along the border between East and West Sussex, England. It uses steam trains which operate between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, with intermediate stations at Horsted Keynes & Kingscote.
The first preserved standard gauge steam-operated passenger railway in the world to operate a public service, the Society ran its first train on 7 August 1960, less than three years after the line from East Grinstead to Lewes had been closed by British Railways.
On 23 March 2013, the Bluebell Railway commenced running through to its new East Grinstead terminus station. At East Grinstead there is a connection to the UK National Network, the first connection of the Bluebell Railway to the national network (in 50 years) since the Horsted Keynes -- Haywards Heath line closed in 1963.
Today the railway is managed and run largely by volunteers. Having preserved a number of steam locomotives even before the cessation of steam service on British mainline railways in 1968, today it has the largest collection (over 30) of steam locomotives in the UK after the National Railway Museum. The Society also has a collection of almost 150 carriages and wagons, most of them pre-1939.

A newly formed organisation with the objective of reopening the railway line between Radstock and Frome.
One objective is to set up a base within area 3 of the railway land in Radstock, areas 1 and 2 destined for redevelopment. We aim to reinstate a passenger service along the route, as well as keeping the current cycle-path running alongside. A new station and signal box is due to built here, with the hope if permitted to see the engine shed redeveloped to accommodate a family restaurant, railway museum and a section reserved for storing and maintaining rolling stock. A secure cycle shed on-site will allow passing cyclists to stop for snacks and refreshments

DOUBLE STEAM HEAVEN IN YORK + THE NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM 17/05/2014
On a beautiful sunny day I headed off to York to see 2 steam locos.
The first steam loco we see on the mainline in this program is David Smith's jubilee 45699 Galatea as she is hauling The Scarborough Steam Special from Skegness to Scarborough and return as far as York were 2 47 diesels would take the train back to Skegness later in the evening,
Notice when she leaves the latch to hold the smoke box door shut was missing at the time this film was taken. I was abit shocked when I first saw it and I thought that can't be right. But despite that 45699 put on a awesome show when departing for Scarborough which she was running 14 mins late at that point.
The other steam loco we see in this program is John Cameron's A4 pacific 60009 Union of South Africa going through the station to Holgate sidings from The NRM in readiness to take over from a WCRC 47 who was bringin the last day of The Cathedrals Explorer from Durham from York 60009 took the train onto London Victoria were the 8 day event finished.
We spend a short time in the museum before heading back to the station to get 45699 Galatea coming back from Scarborough. While in the museum for the first stint we see the turntable demonstration taking place which i got there in the nick of time before the turntable moved with 3717 City of Truro on the turntable.
We see the workshop were we see the boiler and tender of 4472 Flying Scotsman the main frames are at Ian Riley's 4472 was alongside another of David Smith's engines 5972 Olton Hall as she was undergoing maintenance before she heads back to Carnforth for her final 2 railtours But that part is another story.
We return to York station to get 45699 bringing the train back from Scarborough arriving 4 mins early and departing right on time for Holgate sidings from there 45699 and her support coach was uncoupled from the train from there 45699 headed off for home back to Carnforth Steam town.
We return to the museum for the final stint before heading back home were mostly is in the great hall of the NRM
to sum up then it was a amazing day in brilliant weather conditions and seeing 2 mainline steam locos in 1 day.
Thanks for reading enjoy the film
Shepton & District Model Railway Society 44th exhibition - Saturday 8th June 2019
Having missed last years exhibition I was keen to visit this year. This may be a very small show, but it is always friendly and attracts some great layouts and decent trade support.
This year was no exception and if I wasnt being very strict with my purchases, I couldve easily spent a lot of money on some very good value OO items that were on sale.
The first couple of layouts we see are based on real places and really have captured them brilliantly.
I hope you enjoy the film - please feel free to comment, like and share. If you arent already a subscriber - where have you been? Click on the channel icon and subscribe today.
Many thanks for your support, Iain
Last steam train ride (150th anniversary) District tube line (UK) - ITV London News - 22nd June 2019
For railway and steam locomotive enthusiasts, this will be one of the last times people can travel on a steam locomotive on the District Line (tube/underground/subway), in London, where the line was celebrating its 150th anniversary.
UK - Scotsman fails - County of Essex to the rescue - 19/5/2016
Flying Scotsman failed to make an appearance on The Cathedrals Express from York to London Kings Cross on Thursday 19th May 2016. Class 47 diesel 47580, County of Essex, stood in at the last minute.
We see the 47 working hard on Gamston Bank, south of Retford. The 47 is preceded by an Inter City 125 which gives us a musical horn rendition, a Freightliner Class 66 and a Grand Central Class 180.
Ilfracombe East Wilder Brook - From Source to the Sea
From the source to the sea ,East Wilder Brook.
This Brook begins at Hore Down water treatment works, quickly becoming larger as more streams join through heavily wooded valleys, eventually emerging at Score on the edge of Ilfracombe, the river then comes & goes as it disappears into a series of tunnels under the town, eventually joining the sea at Wildersmouth.

Places to see in ( Appledore - UK )
Appledore is a village at the mouth of the River Torridge, about 6 miles west of Barnstaple and about 3 miles north of Bideford in the county of Devon, England. It is home to Appledore Shipbuilders, a lifeboat slipway and Hocking's Ice Cream, a brand of ice cream only sold in North Devon. The local football club is Appledore F.C.
The Bideford, Westward Ho! and Appledore Railway (B,WH&A,R) was most unusual amongst British railways in that although it was built as a standard gauge line (4 ft 8½in) it was not joined to the rest of the railway network, despite the London and South Western Railway having a station at Bideford, East-the-Water, meaning on the other side of the River Torridge from the main town. The line was wholly situated on the peninsula made up of Westward Ho!, Northam and Appledore with extensive sand dunes, at the mouth of the Torridge and Taw estuary. Appledore railway station and the whole line closed in 1917 having been requisitioned by the War Office (Stuckey 1962).
A lifeboat service for the area around the mouth of the River Taw was introduced in February 1825. The boat was kept in the King's Watch House at Appledore for six years until a new boat house was built at Watertown, half a mile nearer the sea. From 1848 a second lifeboat was stationed at Braunton Burrows on the opposite side of the estuary but its crew always came from Appledore. A third station was built at Northam Burrows to the west of Appledore in 1851 and the Appledore boat moved there. A new station at Badsteps allowed Northam Burrows to close in 1889 and Braunton Burrows closed in 1918 as it was difficult to find men and horses to launch the boat. Appledore Lifeboat Station was rebuilt in 2001 and is home to an inshore lifeboat; a larger all-weather boat is kept moored just off shore.
Appledore is served by First Devon and Cornwall service 2, and Stagecoach Devon service 21A which both run between Appledore, Northam, Bideford, East the Water, Instow, Fremington, Bickington, Barnstaple station, Barnstaple, Chivenor, Braunton, Knowle, Mullacott Cross and Ilfracombe.
( Appledore - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Appledore . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Appledore - UK
