Craft Beer Brewers Turn to American History for Inspiration
The brewing industry in the United States has seen an explosion in recent years in what are known as craft beers - innovative beer styles produced by small, independent breweries. In fact, the craft brewing industry grew last year by 11 percent in volume, and 12 percent in dollars - compared to the previous year. One of the newest offerings even takes its inspiration from the nation's founding fathers, including George Washington.

Stone's Smoked Porter Chipotle Peppers The Spit or Swallow Beer Review
Shagdog & Jammer are getting stoned with Stone's Smoked Porter w/Chipotle Peppers Beer.
Brewed by: Stone Brewing Co. California, United States
Stone Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers is a thing of spicy glory, with the just-right heat of smoked jalapeños (aka chipotles) that combines beautifully with the beer's peat-smoked malt and roasty character. The idea came about in 2006 when Merchandise Manager Chris Carroll suggested we make a special South of the Border Stone Smoked Porter for Cinco de Mayo that year. One sip, and we were hooked!

Stone Brewing Co. is a craft brewery headquartered in Escondido, California. Founded in 1996 in San Marcos, California, it is the largest brewery in Southern California. As of 2012, it was the 10th largest craft brewery in the United States and 17th largest brewery overall, based on sales volume.
Established in 1996, the brewery's first beer was Stone Pale Ale, which they consider to be its flagship ale. Most of their beers are characteristic of west-coast craft brews, meaning that they have a high hop content. Stone beers are bottled in 22 ounce bottles, 12 oz six packs, and occasionally 3 liter bottles. The beers available in six-packs are the Stone Pale Ale, Stone IPA, Stone Levitation Ale, Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale, and Stone Ruination IPA. Stone uses 22 ounce bottles to feature their bigger character beers and Stone Special Releases.Compared to most brewers, many Stone brews feature alcohol percentages that are well above average. The alcohol-by-volume content of Stone brews ranges from 4.4% to well over 11%.
Stone Brewing is rated as a world class brewery by the two largest beer enthusiast websites, RateBeer and BeerAdvocate.[8][9] Stone Brewing has been voted by the readers of Beer Advocate as the #1 All Time Top Brewery on Planet Earth.
Stone first opened in 1996. In 2006, Stone relocated from its original brewery in San Marcos to a new, custom-designed facility in Escondido. The new brewery currently has a capacity of 250,000 US beer barrels per year, and also includes an on-site bottling line. The site is also home to a restaurant, Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, a 300+ seat restaurant which features a large outdoor patio and 1-acre (4,000 m2) of gardens. The restaurant serves a rotating menu of food—concentrating on organic, free-range and local ingredients—and beer from Stone, local San Diego and regional California craft brewers, and other specialty breweries in the United States and abroad. The brewery also houses a Stone Company Store where Stone merchandise can be purchased in addition to one and two litre growlers which can be filled with Stone's nine year-round beers and special releases. In May 2013 a second Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens opened in the Liberty Station development in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. The 23,500-square-foot (2,180 m2) facility cost $8 million and can seat 700 patrons.
In June 2008, Stone Brewing covered the roof of the brewery with solar panels, cutting their energy costs nearly in half. The 1,561 roof-mounted solar modules will offset more than 538,000 pounds (244,000 kg) of carbon emissions over its lifetime, which is equivalent to planting 204 acres (0.83 km2) of trees. In 2011, Stone announced plans for major expansion, which will include a new restaurant and brewery in Point Loma, expansion of its Escondido brewery to 500,000 barrel per year capacity, a 18.7 acre organic farm to supply produce to its current and future restaurants, and a shop in the Southpark neighborhood which will sell its beer in bottles, kegs and growlers.

The Malthouse in Wellington offers IPA drinkers a mouth watering event each year. Breweries from around New Zealand submit their best interpretation of US West Coast IPAs. This year there were eight judges, 23 breweries, and hundreds of eager beer enthusiasts.
The Craft Beer Brewery In LA That Everyone’s Talking About
LA Ale Works, which opened its doors in 2010, is on the forefront of LA's relatively recent craft beer revolution (Cities like San Diego had a huge head start). Stop into the Hawthorne-based brewery, pop a squat at the bar, and pound as many flights as it takes to try every beer on the list. Unlike most California breweries that tend to focus on hop-heavy bitter bombs, LA Ale Works focuses on range, so your IPA-hating buddies can find something to slug, too.
