The girls made a day trip to Bridport, Dorset on 2010.11.01. Bridport is famous with its arts scene. The small town has an arts centre, theatre, library, cinema, museum and several annual envents featuring the fictional Wessex of Thomas Hardy's noval as Port Bredy.

Wandering Foxbat - Bridport to Ulverstone Coastline
Aerial video filmed rearwards (to avoid sun glare) of the coastline between Bridport and Ulverstone. Twice normal speed. Aircraft altitude mainly at 1200ft, apart from climb to 2500ft to overfly Devonport Airport.

The historic medieval market town of Midhurst nestles within the heart of the South Downs National Park, surrounded by rural villages and hamlets with beautiful countryside as far as the eye can see. Country Life voted Midhurst as one of the most desirable places to live in Southern England. HG Wells, the famous novelist, described his fond memories of the town in his autobiography: Midhurst has always been a happy place for me. I suppose it rained there at times, but my memories of Midhurst are in sunshine. Midhurst dates back to medieval times and is full of character and charm including the magnificent romantic Tudor ruins of Cowdray House, the Montague family seat, that stand majestically over the town surrounded by the manicured polo lawns of Cowdray Park Polo Club. The town is steeped in history and has over 100 listed buildings. It is well known for the timber framed buildings that border its narrow lanes, packed with specialist boutiques and galleries. Dotted throughout the town are the cottages of the Cowdray Estate identifiable by their colourful yellow doors. :

Cowdray, West Sussex: bright yellow - : 'We are famous for the distinctive yellow paint (called Gold Cup) of many of our cottages, which was chosen due to the 1st Viscount Cowdray's connections to the Liberal party,' says Cowdray's Samantha Collins. 'Many other properties are painted Holly Green, and some are white or other colours, but the colours don't reflect their occupiers' standing within the estate.' . See more:
The Cowdray Estate is owned and run by the Viscount Cowdray, and he and his ancestors won large tranches of land and property in and around the town of Midhurst. The intertwining of the Cowdray Estate and the town goes back many centuries and is still felt strongly today. For example, many a house in Midhurst has garish yellow painted doors or window frames, indicating that the property belongs to the Cowdray Estate. Although this was originally a political statement by the rather Liberal 2nd Viscount Cowdray, Cowdray Yellow has become an interesting and vibrant characteristic of the area. :
The Estate is centred around Midhurst in West Sussex and extends to about 7,500 hectares, of which 36% is woodland, three times the national average. Conifers form 53%, broadleaf high forest 25%, Chestnut coppice 14% with the other 8% being made up of shrub and bare areas etc. Species The main conifer species are Douglas Fir, Norway Spruce, Corsican Pine and Scots Pine, which between them account for 90%, with the remaining 10% made up of Larch, Hemlock, Cedar and other firs. The Broadleaves are Oak and Ash on the heavier soils with Beech being mostly confined to the chalk of the Downs. :

Angel Exit Theatre's The Secret Garden
Angel Exit unearth the dark heart of The Secret Garden, which sees spoilt Mary Lennox plucked from the bright vibrancy of India and transplanted to a big old house full of secrets on the grey Yorkshire moors.
As Mary battles loneliness she encounters locked doors, a curious robin, hidden keys, and strange cries ringing down the corridor...
Presented in Angel Exit's rich visual style and blending storytelling with striking physicality, beautiful puppets, live singing and an original soundtrack, The Secret Garden is performed by an ensemble of five.
This show for all the family is has been co-produced by Dorchester ARTS and Bridport Arts Centre, and co-commissioned by Lighthouse, Poole's Centre for the Arts, and Activate.
The Secret Garden is touring from January until the end of March 2012 and is funded by Arts Council England and West Dorset Leisure fund. This is Angel Exit's third show created at their base at Dorchester ARTS.

Walford Mill
Walford Mill in Wimborne, Dorset, is a flourishing centre for craft. John Holman of Transition Vision visited to talk to Christine Fletcher-Jones, Chief Executive of the Walford Mill Education Trust, about the history of the facility, what goes on there and exciting developments for the future. The mill is also the workplace of two crafts people, Kathryn Arbon, jeweller and the silk weaver Debby Kirby who talk to John about their craft and the advantages of being based in a much visited venue. The significance of the Mill has recently been recognised by Arts Council England maintaining its support by awarding it National Portfolio Status. The Mill is an integral part of the Arts Development Startegy for Dorset.
