Bridport Vintage Market July 2011
The St Michael's trading estate aka the Art & Vintage Quarter has been under threat of demolition for years.
New plans have just been submitted. The red brick artists studios and the cafe buildings would remain. All other warehouses would be knocked down to be replaced by housing.
These images were taken on vintage market day in July.
This is one monthly event that locals and visitors would lose.
Every working day there are up to 200 people working in St Michael's.
These businesses are not so interesting visually but vital to Bridport:
a recycling centre that keeps tonnes of rubbish away from landfill;
a company that cooks great food for local schools and care homes;
a covered area for kids and teenagers (and grown-ups) into bmx or skates to stay out of the rain and maybe out of mischief due to boredom;
a cleaning company;
carpenters,
masons,
artists...
There are many businesses and families that rely on tourism in the town, directly and indirectly.
Bridport without St Michael's Art and Vintage Quarter is not as unique and interesting as it is with. These images were taken on vintage market day in July.
This is what we would lose.
Other businesses in St Michael's are a recycling centre that keeps tonnes of rubbish away from landfill; a company that cooks great food for schools and care homes; a cleaning company; carpenters, masons, artists... According to artist Kit Glaisyer there are about 200 people working in this part of Bridport.
Losing the art and vintage quarter of Bridport is not a decision that can be taken lightly. There are many businesses and families that rely on tourism in the town, directly and indirectly.
Bridport without St Michael's is not as unique as it is with.

Bridport community orchard June 2015
Bridport is a historic market town in Dorset, 2 miles from the fishing port of West Bay. Well worth a visit especially on market days. Just 100 yards back from the second busiest shopping street, behind the church, is a community orchard with pond, beehives and meadow. Every community should have one.

Bridport by Night
A labour of love, four months in the making. I moved to Bridport just over a year ago and immediately fell in love with the place. What better way to show my affection for such a place than to make a movie about it?
Shot on a Nikon D7000 camera, producing 16MP stills for a 25fps video. Some shots in this were 30 second exposures, meaning I had to stay with the camera for an hour and a half just to get six seconds of footage.
I see far too many touristy video features about the West Dorset coastline. Too many quaint holiday cottages and clichéd shots of people eating ice cream on the beach. This video was shot in the winter and, for a growing number of people interested in stargazing, shows that Bridport is a fantastic location for seeing the night sky. It is also beautiful at night.
I started experimenting with time lapse photography back in October 2011, producing promising results. Since then, my videos have come on in leaps and bounds and I am consistently producing my best work yet. By no means is this a finished work. Consider it Bridport by Night version 1. I will be getting a car soon, so this work may evolve to become the whole of Dorset by Night.
