Uphill bike ride to this castle where the famous Navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano was born in 1485. He discovered the Hudson Bay in April 17, 1524 where now is found New York. One of the bridges of New York is named in honor of him, the Verrazzano Bridge that almost every year crossed by the New York Marathon. He died in Abaco Isle at the Bahamas in 1528. The castle and its canteen can be visited in groups by appointment. Nice view of the grapevine and olive coltivated hills of the classic territory of Chianti in Tuscany Italy. Sweet Fruit, Dried Cherry, Tannin
Red wine with a medium towards deep colour; there’s some evolution on the rim, more towards tawny. The nose has some evolution here, showing off floral notes with quite sweet fruit like crushed berries and cherry; with some mild spiciness, a hint of leather. It’s still very youthful in terms of texture, we still have pronounced tannins and a high acidity. The fruitiness is on the sweet fruity side like dried cherry, dried plum. Still a bit austere for my taste, it would certainly need to round off those tannins a little bit more. So medium weight, but still high extract. It has a medium towards long finish, but in my mind a wine that needs some more aging.

Il vino del viaggiatore per eccellenza è un vino molto ancorato alla tradizione trevigiana, schietto e diretto, ottimo da merenda e da salumi con un naso improntato alla frutta rossa mela ciliegia e confettura di lampone e una bocca che sorprende per facilità e piacere di beva. Tannino leggero ma presente, bilancia alcol e struttura e lo fa scorrere veloce in bocca con soddisfazione.

Ogni anno il Verrazzano Day si conferma una emozionante tradizione ricca di significato, quest’anno al Castello di Verrazzano, il capo della rappresentanza Lakota Sioux ha firmato un patto di solenne amicizia con il Comune di Greve, in nome dei comunini valori di solidarietà e di pace tra i popoli e sostenibilità ambientale.
Durante la celebrazione il sindaco di Paolo Sottani sottolinea l’importanza dell’integrazione e rispetto reciproco tra i popoli, soprattutto in questo particolare momento storico che vive l’Italia a e l’Europa.

Every year the Verrazzano Day confirms an exciting rich in meaning tradition, this year at Castello di Verrazzano, the Head of the Representation Lakota Sioux signed a solemn pact of friendship with the town of Greve, in the name of comunini values of solidarity and peace among peoples and environmental sustainability.
During the celebration, the mayor Paolo Sottani stresses the importance dell'itegrazione and mutual respect among peoples, especially at this particular historical moment that lives in Italy and Europe.
The conference, entitled Giovanni da Verrazzano, New Ancient cultures worlds intervened Luigi Giovanni Cappellini chairman of Fondazione Giovanni da Verrazzano, Alessandro Martire, Italian, lawyer, chief of the Lakota Sioux Nation Government, the Indian Chief Leonard Crow Dog, Jr., Frederick Thomas Haukaas, Lakota artist and Cathy Smith, costume film and nominated for an Oscar for the costumes of the film Dances with wolves.
The day continued with a meeting at the table among the dishes of the Lakota tradition and Chianti, a Tuscan appetizer and Lakota fried bread. As first courses: ribollita, bison soup, pasta with meat sauce, while the second roast pork and bison stew with potato side dishes in the oven.
My lunch was entertained by two very funny ladies Marilu Tapinassi, grevigiana who works in fashion in America and Mari Teresa Sachele, Sicilian transplanted to America that speaks pefettamente the Italian. Marilu just told me that tasted exquisite ribollita (original recipe Clara Arzilla Caps) is a typical Chianti wine. In fact, unlike all those sample, this had the presence of the tomato, also for this thanks to Giovanni da Verrazzano.
Al convegno, dal titolo “Giovanni da Verrazzano, Nuovi mondi Antiche culture” sono intervenuti Luigi Giovanni Cappellini presidente della Fondazione Giovanni da Verrazzano, Alessandro Martire, italiano, avvocato, delegato del Governo della Nazione Lakota Sioux, il capo indiano Leonard Crow Dog Jr, Frederick Thomas Haukaas, artista Lakota e Cathy Smith, costumista cinematografica e nomination al premio Oscar per i costumi del film Balla con i lupi.
La giornata è proseguita con l'incontro a tavola tra i piatti della tradizione Lakota e chiantigiana, un antipasto toscano e pane fritto Lakota. Come primi piatti: ribollita, zuppa di bisonte, pasta al ragù mentre di secondo arista al forno e stufato di bisonte con contorni di patate al forno.
Il mio pranzo è stato allietato da due simpaticissime signore Marilu Tapinassi, grevigiana che lavora nel campo della moda in America e Mari Teresa Sachele, siciliana trapiantata in America che parla pefettamente l’Italiano. Proprio Marilu mi ha raccontato che la squisita ribollita assaggiata (ricetta originale di Clara Arzilla Cappellini) è una tipicità Chiantigiana. Infatti a differenza di tutte quelle assaggiate, questa aveva la presenza del pomodoro, anche per questo grazie a Giovanni da Verrazzano.
