Ecclesia D-450 for the Cathedral of San Salvador, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. (English version)
A team of Johannus specialists recently installed a beautiful 3 manual Ecclesia D-450 church organ with 54 stops in the famous Cathedral of San Salvador in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
The Cathedral is located at Plaza Encarnación, s/n. The Cathedral used to be the collegiate church (Iglesia Mayor de San Salvador) and was named as the Cathedral only in 1980. The building was built on top of the Moorish mosque in 1695 and this construction ended only in 1778.
There were at least seven architects involved. The Cathedral is a Gothic building that has Baroque and neoclassical elements. It has the form of a Latin cross and has five naves. It has a cupola over a hexagonal drum, which lets in a lot of light.
The altarpiece is Baroque in design. There is a separate bell tower in another building, also with a mixture of styles, the Gothic-Mudejar and the neoclassic style.

The ALCAZAR of Jerez de la Frontera is a former Moorish alcázar.
A first fortress was probably built in the 11th century, when Jerez was part of the petty kingdom of the taifa of Arcos de la Frontera, on a site settled since prehistoric times in the south-eastern corner of the city. In the 12th century, a new structure was erected to be used as both residence and fortress by the Almohad rulers of southern Spain. Later, after the Reconquista of Andalusia, it was the seat of the first Christian mayors.
The mosque is the only one remaining, of the eighteen once present in the city.
The CATHEDRAL of Jerez is remarkably beautiful and has a fascinating history. For further details regarding the architecture and history we recommend the Cathedral's website:
