Running in SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The River Walk
On a recent visit to Texas I had two days in San Antonio so I decided to get out one morning and run along the world famous River Walk. Although it was chilly in the morning and still looking like winter, the River Walk was a very pleasant area to get in a run.

San Antonio Zoo Full Tour - San Antonio, Texas
The San Antonio Zoo is an Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoo in Midtown San Antonio, Texas, United States. It is located in the city's Brackenridge Park. The 35-acre (14 ha) zoo has a collection of over 3,500 animals representing 750 species. The zoo's annual attendance exceeds 1,000,000. It also runs non-animal attractions, such as the 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge San Antonio Zoo Eagle train ride, which first opened in 1956 and utilizes three Chance Rides C.P. Huntington locomotives.
History of San Antonio Zoo:
What is now known as the San Antonio Zoo began in 1914 when Colonel George Washington Brackenridge, one of the city's leading citizens, placed bison, deer, monkeys, African lions, and bears on land he had deeded to the city. The land became Brackenridge Park and Golf Course.
The San Antonio Zoo opened two of the first cageless exhibits in the United States in November 1929 that offered visitors views of the animals not available in caged exhibits. The Richard Friedrich Aquarium was dedicated in 1948, and the Hixon Bird House, funded through the efforts of Colonel Frederick C. Hixon, opened in 1966. The zoo's bird collection is now one of the world's largest.
The San Antonio Zoo housed the first herd of addra gazelle in captivity in 1969 and continues to be active in the breeding program for this critically endangered species. Due to the former hoofstock quarantine point in San Antonio, the San Antonio Zoo has historically had a wide variety of hoofstock species.
The zoo is involved in breeding a number of endangered species including black rhino, leopard, golden lion tamarin, dama gazelle, Attwater's prairie chicken, black mangabey, African lion, black-footed ferret, Komodo dragon, Andean condor, and Caribbean flamingos.
The zoo opened Phase II of Africa Live in 2010. Phase I, which opened in 2007, brought a new exhibit for hippos with underwater viewing area and one for new Nile crocodiles as well as many other smaller animals. Phase II contains Angolan colobus monkeys, okapi, African hunting dogs, rock hyrax, and various species of birds contained in the second largest aviary in the world. On June 18, 2013, a two-headed turtle, along with three one-headed turtles hatched. The two-headed turtle was later named Thelma and Louise after the 1991 film. Thelma and Louise later died on July 29, 2014, from unknown causes.

Embrace the beauty of our natural surroundings here in San Antonio. Step up your fitness routine and enjoy all the benefits of hiking, cycling, running, and walking on trails throughout the San Antonio park system. The Parks and Recreation Department encourages you to consider the following safety tips as you make your plans for an outing on one of the many beautiful trails in your City parks and on the Howard W. Peak Greenway trails. For a list of tips you can print visit:
No. 1, San Antonio, Texas Highways Top 40 Readers' Choice Travel Destinations
You could argue that San Antonio had a head start in Texas Highways’ countdown of the Texas Top 40 travel destinations. As a historic frontier hub and the state’s oldest big city, San Antonio has captured our collective imagination for centuries. San Antonio’s heritage of fortitude, culture, and diversity represent some of the best of the Texas spirit—from the Alamo defenders to the Chili Queens to the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.
When we surveyed readers about their favorite Texas travel spots, they invoked San Antonio’s distinctive character, along with the city’s wealth of activities and hometown hospitality. Reader Iris Ramirez of Garland put it succinctly: “The variety of cultural events, food, and historical sights make the city a must-see experience.” Voters like Iris put San Antonio at the top of the list.
Dwight D. Eisenhower Park And Nature Area In San Antonio Texas
Eisenhower Park in Northwest San Antonio Texas (in the Texas Hill Country) is a lovely nature area criss-crossed by multiple walking trails. Some trails are paved, others are not, and different paths feature different degrees of difficulty for walkers, joggers and hikers.
Eisenhower Park is managed by the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department.
Most of the trails meet at the top of a hill where there's an uncovered wooden lookout tower. From there you can see downtown San Antonio's skyline in the distance to the south.
I took the most popular paved trail. The round trip up the hill and back down covers almost 3 miles.
The park was formerly part of the US Army training ground Camp Bullis. It was opened to the public in 1988. The park is named after U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower who was originally from Texas and was an army commander at nearby Fort Sam Houston.
As you can see in the video, there are also picnic areas and a playground, plus barbecue pits and a rock climbing facade near the entrance to the park.

The Alamo- Free
The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an assault on the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, United States), killing all of the Texian defenders. Santa Anna's cruelty during the battle inspired many Texians—both Texas settlers and adventurers from the United States—to join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the revolution.

Nice park! Great paved walkways with miles of trails. Lots of playgrounds for kids and pokestops (if you're into that sort of thing).
Great for running, biking, or just walking into nature. Full of lush trees and landscaping that is well kept up.
Market Square
Great place to buy souvenirs
Historic Market Square thrives today on a plaza that was gifted to the original settlers “for their use and entertainment” by the King of Spain in 1730.
Japanese Tea Garden San Antonio Texas & Changing Domicile to Texas
Japanese Tea Garden San Antonio Texas & Changing Domicile to Texas // I visited the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio Texas, also called a Chinese Tea Garden or Chines Garden and experience some beautiful zen gardens, Japanese waterfall, and the beautiful flowers and trees in the rest of the Japanese garden. If you visit Texas, the Japanese Tea Garden is one of the free things to do in Texas so make sure you stop by and visit and do a little meditation on the rock steps. I'm passing through from San Antonio to Houston to escape some winter weather and then domicile in Texas. I ended up in Houston as well for the RV inspection so I could get the RV registration in Texas.

Comanche Lookout Park Hike San Antonio TX
Took my grandkids to Comanche Lookout Park located in Northeast San Antonio on Nacogdoches Road.
Take a kid hiking.
Get them outside, even just for a little bit.
Native Americans used this hill as a vantage point for warfare and hunting. The Apache and Comanche Indians dominated the area as they hunted along waterways including nearby Cibolo Creek. The hill was also a prominent landmark for travelers in the 18th and 19th centuries. The old Spanish road from San Antonio to Bastrop and Nacogdoches in East Texas extended past the base of the hill. The road followed earlier American Indian travel routes, and today its remnants are known as Nacogdoches Road.
Comanche Lookout Park is a 96-acre public park owned by the City of San Antonio. The site includes the fourth highest point in Bexar County with an elevation of 1,340 feet. Vegetation on the hill includes native Ash Juniper, Texas and Mexican Buckeye, Chinaberry, Graneno, Lindheimer Hackberry and Honey Mesquite.

San Antonio River Walk W/ the Fam!

San Antonio Texas Medical Center Running Trail (first time to use the DJI Spark)
Last December 2017, we had a rare day when the sun was out. We decided to head to the park for a quick jog and played a bit with our newly unboxed DJI Spark
