This SEWER CANAL Was FILLED WITH FISH!!! (NEW SPECIES Alert) (2019 Fort Myers, EP 2/4)
December 17th, 2019 -- For the afternoon of my 180th outing of this year, I explored and fished an unnamed set of sewage canals in Fort Myers, FL. Some of these canals don't even show up on Google Maps; however, they are all connected to each other. Their function is to collect run off water from the rain, diminishing the possibility of floods around the vicinity. My main objective was to see if anything thrived in it, and if so, which Species would those be. Read more about it below!
Did you know that...?
????️ ...This is not the first time that I have found a juicy hole in a shallow and filthy Florida Canal! Earlier this year, I SLAYED at another deep hole in Orlando: The key in fishing these canals is to always find the deeper areas! Since the bigger fishes are not able to survive in the shallower areas, they will stack up there.
????️ ...In the 20th century, the Blackchin Tilapia was imported to the southwest area of Florida as a food source. Due to heavy floods in the area, they escaped from the fish farms and became established in local waterways. They have been in the wild since 1959.
????️ ...EPF has been stopped by law enforcement in the state of Florida for a total of SIX times. Three out of these six times, I was asked for my fishing license and state ID. When talking to law enforcement, the key element is to remain calm and be respectful! If you didn't do anything wrong, you shouldn't be afraid anyways!

Aircraft carrier is rushed to the hurricane battered Keys
MIAMI (AP) — Authorities sent an aircraft carrier and other Navy ships to help with search-and-rescue operations in Florida on Monday as a flyover of the hurricane-battered Keys yielded what the governor said were scenes of devastation.
“I just hope everyone survived,” said Gov. Rick Scott.
He said boats were cast ashore, water, sewers and electricity were knocked out, and “I don’t think I saw one trailer park where almost everything wasn’t overturned.” Authorities also struggled to clear the single highway connecting the string of islands to the mainland.
The Keys felt Irma’s full fury when the storm blew ashore as a Category 4 hurricane Sunday morning with 130 mph (209 kph) winds. How many people in the dangerously exposed, low-lying islands defied evacuation orders and stayed behind was unclear.
As Irma weakened into a tropical storm and finally left Florida on Monday after a run up the entire 400-mile length of the state, the full scale of its destruction was still unknown, in part because of cutoff communications and blocked roads.
Six deaths in Florida have been blamed on Irma, along with three in Georgia and one in South Carolina. At least 35 people were killed in the Caribbean.
Statewide, an estimated 13 million people, or two-thirds of Florida’s population, remained without power. That’s more than the population of New York and Los Angeles combined. Officials warned it could take weeks for electricity to be restored to everyone.
More than 180,000 people huddled in shelters in the Sunshine State.
“How are we going to survive from here?” asked Gwen Bush, who waded through thigh-deep floodwaters outside her central Florida home to reach National Guard rescuers and get a ride to a shelter. “What’s going to happen now? I just don’t know.”
The governor said it was way too early to put a dollar estimate on the damage.
During its march up Florida’s west coast, Irma swamped homes, uprooted trees, flooded streets, snapped miles of power lines and toppled construction cranes.
In a parting shot, it triggered severe flooding around Jacksonville in the state’s northeastern corner. It also spread misery into Georgia and South Carolina as it moved inland with winds at 50 mph, causing flooding and power outages.
Around the Tampa-St. Petersburg area, where Irma rolled through early Monday, damage appeared modest. And the governor said damage on the southwest coast, including in Naples and Fort Myers, was not as bad as feared. In the Keys, though, he said “there is devastation.”
“It’s horrible, what we saw,” Scott said. “I know for our entire state, especially the Keys, it’s going to be a long road.”
He said the Navy dispatched the USS Iwo Jima, USS New York and the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln to help with search and rescue and other relief efforts.
Emergency managers in the islands declared on Monday “the Keys are not open for business” and warned that there was no fuel, electricity, running water or cell service and that supplies were low and anxiety high.
“HELP IS ON THE WAY,” they promised on Facebook.
The Keys are linked by 42 bridges that have to be checked for safety before motorists can be allowed in, officials said. The governor said the route also needs to be cleared of debris and sand, but should be usable fairly quickly.
In the Jacksonville area, close to the Georgia line, storm surge brought some of the worst flooding ever seen there, with at least 46 people pulled from swamped homes.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office warned residents along the St. Johns River to “Get out NOW.”
“If you need to get out, put a white flag in front of your house. A t-shirt, anything white,” the office said on its Facebook page. “Search and rescue teams are ready to deploy.”
A tornado spun off by Irma was reported on the Georgia coast, and firefighters inland had to rescue several people after trees fell on their homes.
A tropical storm warning was issued for the first time ever in Atlanta, and school was canceled in communities around the state. More than 100,000 customers were without power in Georgia and over 80,000 in South Carolina.
Over the next two days, Irma is expected to push to the northwest, into Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee.
People in the heavily populated Tampa-St. Petersburg area had braced for the first direct hit from a major hurricane since 1921. But by the time Irma arrived in the middle of the night Monday, its winds were down to 100 mph (161 kph) or less.
“When that sun came out this morning and the damage was minimal, it became a good day,” said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

Pensacola pool screen enclosures, what you should know
Premier Pools &Spas presents a video on Pensacola pool screen enclosures, what you should know
For more information on Pensacola pool screen enclosures visit:
Not many things can top a nice, long day by the pool on a warm summer day in Pensacola, Florida but even in the beautiful Sunshine State, mother nature can be pain in the neck. Rain, bugs, insects, and even bees visit whenever they like. For this reason, one of the biggest debates among people in Pensacola is whether or not they should install a screen enclosure around their pool. “Yes, it will keep bugs out”. “No, it will ruin my view”. Or, “Yes, it will give me a bit more privacy.” There’s a variety of reasons why you may say Yes or No to installing a pool enclosure. A pool enclosure is not a safety fence to prevent drowning, it’s basically a screen room that can block the view from your pool when not installed properly. Still it’s an amazing bug repellent and provides great protection against the harsh rays of the sun. It’s quite natural for you to flip-flop back and forth on a decision. So, to help you decide we’ve compiled a list of the pros and cons of installing a pool enclosure during your pool building process below. Take a look!
Advantages of Pool Enclosures
• Protect from bugs
• Open up the house into additional living space
• Protects the pool from debris (easier to maintain).
• Blocks out the sun (less sunscreen needed)
• Allows for less safety fencing. Child safety fencing can be easily attached to the enclosure posts
• Removes the need for a fence to block off your yard from others
• Added Privacy

A Comfortable Hospital Birth
Mothers are faced with a lot of questions during pregnancy, including where to give birth. Doctors explain how they are making that decision a little easier.
Dr. Kevin Fleishman, an OB/GYN on staff at Lee Health, says where the baby is delivered is one of the first most important decisions a mother has to make. “I encourage her to be at or near the hospital in case any scary events occur.”
Doctors say scary events can happen suddenly during deliver. “Everything can be looking really low risk and all of a sudden it can get high risk very quickly in terms of the baby going into distress, the heart rate going down, severe vaginal bleeding, extreme hypertension, these are very common issues that we deal with,” said Dr. Fleishman.
He says if patients are in the hospital doctors are able to make sure the mother and baby are safe during delivery. “If things go bad then we can take care of it right away. We try to make the birth as natural as possible. We dim the lights, we have them pick the music they like, we have them bring lavender or something nice to smell, and we limit interventions.”
After a safe delivery, mothers can also have the option of immediate skin to skin contact with the baby, and delaying the clamping of the umbilical cord in order to get the baby more blood.
If mothers have to have a C-section, doctors can also make the experience a little more comfortable. “The things we do with gentle C-sections are there can be a clear drape so they can see the baby coming out. We’ve also modified that as a natural C-section, so after we make the incision instead of quickly delivering the baby we let the mother’s contractions of the uterus push the baby out slowly,” said Dr. Fleishman.
All can be done to ensure the mother and baby have a safe and comfortable delivery.

Pensacola Beach
Located on Santa Rosa Island, one of the longest barrier islands in the world, Pensacola Beach has an old Florida feel with natural beaches, local hang-outs, first-rate fishing and historic Fort Pickens. Pensacola Beach has been named among the nation's top 10 beaches by TripAdvisor.
Pensacola Beach is an unincorporated community located on Santa Rosa Island, a barrier island, in Escambia County, Florida, United States. It is situated south of Pensacola, and Gulf Breeze connected via bridges spanning to the Fairpoint Peninsula and then to the island, on the Gulf of Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 2,738.
Pensacola Beach occupies land bound by a 1947 deed from the United States Department of Interior that it be administered in the public interest by the county or leased, but never disposed; its businesses and residents are thus long-term leaseholders and not property owners.
Pensacola Beach is part of the Pensacola--Ferry Pass--Brent Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Escambia County and Santa Rosa counties.
Pensacola Beach is located at 30°20′00″N 87°08′15″W, on the barrier island of Santa Rosa. It is bordered to the south by the Gulf of Mexico, to the north by Santa Rosa Sound and Pensacola Bay, and to the east and west by the Gulf Islands National Seashore.
The Pensacola Beach Pier is one of the longest in the Gulf of Mexico at 1,471 feet. Portofino Boardwalk features open-air bars and restaurants, shops, piers and shallow water for kids along Santa Rosa Sound. Visitors can access Gulf Islands National Seashore on both sides of Pensacola Beach, perfect for biking, snorkeling or kayaking. In summer, visitors are entertained with free concerts four nights a week. The biggest event of the year is the Pensacola Beach Air Show featuring the world-famous Blue Angels.

Exploring Punta Gorda - Future Sailing Destination
With the boat nearing completion we are starting to think about our next destination. The last thing we want to do is stay in one spot with a newly refit sailboat. We take the time to head over to the west coast of Florida and check it out from Bradenton south to Fort Meyers. We really like the Punta Gorda area. The entire Charlotte Harbor area. We checked out the waterways all the way from the Peace River near Punta Gorda down to the barrier islands of Cayo Costa and Boca Grande. We explored the clear waters of the bay and the calm, clear blue Gulf of Mexico. We saw dolphins and manatee and stopped by a small little-uninhabited island and did some swimming. While we were swimming, we saw a tarpon swimming in the water. We even had lunch at a quaint little cottage and restaurant on the island of Cabbage Key.
The boat work is getting ready to continue, but this was an excellent break from it. It was spring break for Chazzy (12-year-old), so we took advantage of the fact that we have a camper now. It is awesome that we can just connect to the truck and head out. We have it completely stocked with everything we need, so off we can go. Heck, we even did the most red-neck thing possible, and that was we camped in a Walmart Parking lot on the drive out toward Punta Gorda.
Here are a few links to the places that we visited and stayed. I would recommend all of them. The campground was immaculate, well maintained, lots of amenities, activities and lovely staff.
