In 1969 our father, Jay Corley, began searching for an appropriate site to grow wine grapes and quickly recognized that the best wines in the United States were made from grapes grown in the Napa Valley. Since his personal interest was in Burgundian-style wines, he chose to initially focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and therefore acquired land in what is now known as the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley in 1970. The Oak Knoll District is in southern Napa Valley, just north of the town of Napa, and with its cooler temperatures, the Oak Knoll District is ideal for growing these varietals.
Josh Cellars the offical story about the name of the Winery
In 2009, New York Times writer, Eric Asimov, proclaimed Joseph Carr, a producer to watch for, and put his wines alongside the likes of Far Niente, Clos du Val, Heitz, Grgich Hills and Rubicon. Mr. Asimov continues to comment, that these are “wines of balance and restraint”.
For centuries, the Négociant has produced some of the world’s finest wines: Louis Jadot, Joseph Drouhin and Georges Duboeuf, to name just a few. Joseph Carr works with small estate growers, coopers and winemakers, not unlike a classic négociant, to produce handcrafted boutique wines. After 10 years, serving as a world-class sommelier, then another ten as an international industry executive, Mr. Carr set out on his own in 2005, to form his family-owned wine company. It was, as Mr. Carr says “a chance to follow a dream.” As director of Joseph Carr Napa Valley, Joseph continues to work with many of the associates he has met
throughout his long career; those who share his passion and desire to produce world class wines.
Influenced by the wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, Joseph Carr’s winemaking philosophy is balance, sophistication and approachability. Mr. Carr, his wife Deirdre, his daughter Cailen, and Max, his dog, own and operate Joseph Carr Wines, producing fine wines from Napa Valley, California, along with limited production
wines from Carneros and the Sonoma Coast. “We have the luxury of working with some of the best growers in Napa Valley and produce all of our wines at Larson Family Vineyards in Carneros” states Mr. Carr. Since launching his business in 2005, Mr. Carr’s wines have been received with great enthusiasm. His wines grace some of the finest restaurant lists in the United States and abroad. Joseph Carr has recently worked with Tom Larson to produce his second label, named “Josh Cellars” -his “vin de garage” -as he jokingly refers to it. It is a North Coast Vineyard project, from sites organically and sustainably farmed. It is dedicated to his father.

Vineyard Dispute in California Leads to Murder-suicide
The New York Times reports that a failed wine venture in the heart of Napa Valley California, and the furious court battles between Robert Dahl, who ran a struggling vineyard, and his chief investor, Emad Tawfilis, has led to tragedy.
Tawfilis claimed in a subsequent lawsuit that Dahl had already dismantled Patio and was siphoning his money into a another winery and a Napa craft brewery.
Their dispute ended Monday with Tawfilis racing frantically through the vineyard grapevines as Dahl, carrying a silencer-equipped .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol and driving a black sport utility vehicle, pursued and then killed him in sight of arriving sheriff’s deputies.
The 47-year-old Dahl later shot himself to death as officers closed in after a chase up a twisting valley road.

Meet the Winemaker (Episode 103): Bernard Lacroute, WillaKenzie Estate, by Debra Meiburg MW
Debra catches up with Bernard Lacroute of WillaKenzie Estate, based in Oregon's Willamette Valley. They discuss Bernard's Burgundian roots, his former life working in the high-tech business in the United States, as well as what drew him into winemaking. Debra enquires about the origins of the winery's very un-French name, WillaKenzie Estate, and Bernard gets dishes the dirt on, errr, dirt. As a former techy, Bernard tells Debra about the super cool technology they have integrated into the winery (like wireless drip irrigation), but reiterates the need to not go too far with technology in the winemaking business.
Finally, they discuss the region's burgeoning Pinot Gris industry and the style which WillaKenzie Estate favours, concluding with Bernard's take on whether New Zealand is competition for Oregon.
14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon | One Minute of Wine Episode #514
Welcome to One Minute of Wine - a daily video series from Elma Wine & Liquor. Join Tim as he reviews a bottle of wine everyday in sixty seconds or less. Today Tim reviews 14 Hands Cabernet Sauvignon. A Cabernet Sauvignon made in the Columbia Valley of Washington State. Named in honor of the wild horses that used to roam the Colombia River Basin and stood a mere 14 Hands tall. Aromas of juicy blackberry and plum. A lot of fruit flavor up front; Juicy cherry, blackberry and plum. Some nice vanilla notes mid-palate from its time spent aging in oak that leads to a nice smooth finish. Cheers and Happy Derby Day!
