Join us as we hike to the Cataract Falls in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, USA. The hike starts at the Sugarland Visitor Center and ends at the beautiful Cataract Falls. It is a short and easy hike that young kids can do.

GATLINBURG, TN: We hiked to Grotto Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
This was the perfect hike with kids and just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg. By easy, I mean that it is quick to access the trail and it's a lot shorter than most of the big hikes in the park. It's a solid walk but totally doable if you want the experience of hiking to a waterfall in the Great Smoky Moutain National Park.
The total roundtrip distance (there and back) is 2.6 miles and it took us a couple hours. The first half is mostly uphill but the trail is wide and there are several fun little break points. And the good news is that it is downhill on the way back! Some parts of the trail have roots and rocks exposed that you need to navigate but for Abby and Jake (10 yrs old and 8 yrs old) it wasn't a problem. It may be tough for little ones or folks who have difficulty walking.
The trailhead is accessible via the old Motor Trail and that drive itself is really fun. It's a one-way loop and the scenery is gorgeous. (see the end of the video)
More info about Grotto Falls and how to find the trailhead here:
TIP: Get there early! We waited until around 11am and it was so hard to find parking. We had to park along the road almost a half mile from the parking lot making the trek longer than it needed to be!
We had SO much fun visiting Gatlinburg and I will share more on the blog soon at

Down By The RIVER! - Smoky Mountain Picnic TOWNSEND, TN
While heading back from Smoky Mountains we decided we would stop and have a picnic in Townsend, TN down by the river. So, we dropped by Kroger, picked up a few things, and then headed to the river.
Ayrro was asleep in the car, less then 10 feet from us, while we ate. Lake played in the water a little and then we loaded up and headed back home to GA. If you look in the underwater footage you can see several small fish. It's kinda cool.
Thanks for watching and we ask that you please like and subscribe. It will definitely help us out.

Elkmont Campground - The Great Smokey Mountains National Park Video
Elkmont Campground has 200 tent / RV campsites with paved driveways, gravel tent pads, fire rings, and picnic tables. Although most sites will accommodate tents or RVs, extreme slope or length of driveway make certain sites more suitable for tents than RVs. Please check the descriptions and measurements of individual sites.
In addition to these tent / RV sites, Elkmont has 20 walk-in sites for tents. Campers on these beautiful wooded sites will have a short walk from their parking area to their tent pad.
Nine of Elkmont's campsites are wheelchair accessible ADA sites. These sites have wide concrete driveways, raised fire rings, and wheelchair accessible picnic tables. All of these sites are located near accessible restrooms. Three of the sites provide 5 amp electrical service for medical equipment.
Restrooms at Elkmont Campground have flush toilets, cold running water, and utility sinks. Potable water is available at spigots near each restroom; use of hoses is not allowed. Elkmont Campground does not have electric, water, or sewer hook-ups. RV campers are encouraged to use the dump station across from Sugarlands Visitor Center, as there is no dump station in the campground.
Elkmont is strictly an overnight campground; there are no day-use facilities. The nearest picnic area is Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area, west of Elkmont on Little River Road.
Due to its central location and variety of amenities, Elkmont Campground tends to be heavily used during the summer vacation months and in October. Sites along Little River are in particularly high demand. Even when Elkmont is full, campsites are often available at Cosby Campground, located at the northeast corner of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Tiffany M.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Great campsite near Cades Cove loop
We reserved our site online, this can be done a month in advance. We were impressed with the paved parking space, picnic table, fire pit and level tent pad. It looks like these are very new. Proximity to cades cove loop was great. The souvineer shop has great gifts and a good selection of snacks and some supplies. Prices are reasonable, better than we expected. Bathroom was not the best, not very clean. The dish washing sink behind the bathroom was handy. No showers, but this is true for any camp sites in the park. Ranger station nearby is helpful to get advice and current weather reports (no phone reception in the park). Bike rentals available near the gift/snack shop too, to bike the loop. Lots of trees on our site that we used to setup a tarp to stay dry.
