500PLUS® BAMTEC® Waubra Wind Towers VIC
The Waubra Wind Farm Project in Victoria involved the construction of a wind farm on rural properties north west of Ballarat. The 500PLUS® BAMTEC® system was used to place the rebar for the 128 heavily reinforced wind tower bases. This provided considerable savings in labour and time on site.

Rose Dooley has lived at Ellen Grove at Crookwell, New South Wales, all her life. Homes are important places and Rose wants to stay in hers. Unfortunately her family home is 600m from turbines of the Crookwell Wind Farm which has been operating since 1998. Rose describes the noise that rolls down the gully from the turbines to be like a truck starting up.
After such a long time being exposed to the noise, Rose has severe sleep deprivation - she averages only a half an hour of sleep a night when at her home, but can sleep well when she goes away. Besides being very tired, Rose has ear pain, headaches, pains in the chest, blood pressure problems and she also gets dizzy when here ears are noisy. She laments that the current plan is for even more and larger turbines to be installed which will surround her home in all directions. As one of Australia's most experienced
wind turbine neighbour, Rose believes that wind turbines should not be in anyone's backyard.

Abandoned Crookwell Station | Phantom 3 4K [Vlog72]
Another windy road trip saw us visit the abandoned railway station at Crookwell, nearly 40km away from Goulburn in south-west NSW.
We flew in extreme winds at Goulburn but there seemed to be no escape as we experienced similar conditions at the Crookwell wind farm and again, right here. But after our drones appeared to be well up to the task, we'd at least had some practice.
Crookwell used to be on a branch line out of Goulburn but is no longer used. What remains is the platform, some sheds and a turntable. The station itself is heritage listed and is now a museum dedicated to the Goulburn-Crookwell branch line which opened in 1902 and saw its last passenger services in 1974. Freight runs were discontinued in 1985.
Like many other towns around the state (and probably Australia), these remain a reminder of what used to be, and Crookwell is apparently one of the best kept examples of such a station in the country.

TASSIE POWER CRISIS: drought and defunct Basslink...
In the week before Christmas Basslink suddenly failed. Technical details of the cause have not been forthcoming. Industry observers stated that there was enough Hydro water -- despite the drought -- for normal supplies to continue for 2 months. That deadline passed three weeks ago. No revised estimates have been issued of when Basslink will once again be feeding dirty Victorian coal-fired electricity into Tasmania.
This ABC News24 update by reporter Ellen Coulter reveals a growing list of problems for at least three heavy industries, for gas-fired generators, and for hydroelectric power essentially running on empty.
About 16 years ago I ran a competition to promote solar hot water for Tasmania. If over the intervening years every Tasmanian residence, sports club, gym, swimming pool, etc had been retrofitted with solar thermal hot water systems, then HUGE amounts of baseload energy could have been conserved, with HUGE amounts of hydro water also being conserved. Just before Basslink failed Tasmania was relying on cheap mainland coal power to feed 40% of the total load, so it is no wonder that Basslink's failure combined with the drought are having a sizeable economic impact on energy-intensive industries.
The time is long overdue for Tas Energy Minister Groom to encourage every Taswegian to install a solar water heater. It is demonstrably baseload renewable energy stored in a water tank! Good for jobs, good for the climate, good for resilience of energy supply during a long hot sunny summer, good for innovation and competition (the principles on which COAG ticked off on energy market deregulation/privatisation in the 90s.).
Because of cold winters, most areas will need good frost protection, but that is not rocket science, and easily manageable.

The Australian Energy Regulator is taking four wind farm operators to court over the 2016 statewide blackout in South Australia.
