The Lost City - Near Lithgow NSW
Just out of Lithgow, a couple of hours' drive west of Sydney, NSW's 'Lost City' is an easy 4WD destination and well worth a visit. The spectacular weathered, beehive-shaped, Hawkesbury sandstone formations are quite a sight.
There are probably more 'Lost Cities' around Australia than Native Dog Creeks, and that's really a big claim! In the Northern Territory, Litchfield National Park has a Lost City. There's another in the Gulf. All have one thing in common - spectacular geological formations.

Australia Best Farmstay Family Holiday in NSW. Sydney's Best Experience.
Morvern Valley Farmstay is a great choice for your farm Holiday.
3 x Boutique themed three bedroom cottages, on 25 Farm acres. In Bundanoon just 90 minutes from Sydney.
The property can accommodate up to 24 people.
Half cleared and farmyard, and then there's babbling Coal creek, and natural bush. Enjoy lovely little bush rambles at the back half which then in turn meets the Morton National Park.
Its 1856 Samuel Tooth, foreman for the railway being built to connect Sydney and Canberra, saw Bundanoon.... took one look and it was it.
He hurriedly made his way back to Sydney, organised a loan securing the land, collected his wife and child.
Bravely throwing their ‘hat in the ring’ the young couple set out for Bundanoon.
Samuel and Emily work hard and have 13 children.
Samuel, is a drover, a passionate gardener, a community spirited and forward thinking man. He makes money owning a timber mill and his 16 strong bullock team bringing the timber up from the gullies to the station.
He donates land and timber for the memorial hall and the school.
Beautifully positioned the farm is an easy walk to the National Park.
Mrs Samuel Tooth, Emily would serve devonshire tea’s with pots of tea made on the wood burning stove in the Kitchen built near the rear of The Original Homestead, scones made within. With milk and cream from Bess the cow, not to mention fresh creamy butter in the wooden butter churn. Jam from the fruit grown on the trees to the rear of the house, boiled and bottled.
Emily would have families from the city come to stay from 1896 she advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald and was very busy.
The hard working Tooth family grew acre upon acres of Daffodils every winter for a flower stall at Central Station.
The peace and quiet still exist here, the slower pace and small village feel.
The farm is also featured in 3 of the several Discovery Rambles of Bundanoon three of which pass the property.
The self-guided walks take in the earliest settler’s homes, the parks, churches, cemetaries and landmarks of earliest Bundanoon.
Its lack of city minimalism, and clean crisp lines makes the accommodation real and true to itself, there are collectables from all Morvern’s eras, including some of the modern – this blending is one of the integral elements of true country style and how Morvern Valley really was.
Old cross stitch doilies lovingly rendered while listening to the radiogram. The old Radiagram still has in pride of place in The Original Homestead.
The old meat safe and country kitchen dresser with its cool box and pull out cutting board.
This was a time when things were not disposable, but carefully looked after and returned to place once used.
When furniture was solid and lasted a lifetime. When furniture was polished with wax and clothes kept 'for good'.
Be apart from the noise in your life and walk a day in the Tooth's lifestyle.
Step back in time, to a gentler pace.....
Enjoy a weekend or a week at Morvern Valley Farmstay Bundanoon

Casa della Pace (House of Peace) Country Retreat, 9 Diamond Road, Crookwell, NSW 2583, Australia - with your hostesses Jan and Marg.
This is where Sandie and I often escape to from the BIG city of Sydney and spend a couple of relaxing days every month or so.
The two storey rammed earth house is nestled in an acre of beautiful landscaped gardens, on 50 acres of pastures and natural bush. Kangaroos often visit, and an abundance of native birds enjoy the garden.
'Casa della Pace' means 'house of peace' in Italian, and that's you'll find there when you visit. The stars at night are amazing, and birdsong is about the only sound you'll hear.
There are two bedrooms available. Both are roomy, comfortable and have lovely views of pasture, gum trees, grazing sheep, and distant hills. Bathroom is shared with separate toilet.
Your hostess, Jan, loves serving delicious cooked breakfasts, but you can have more simple fare. There is a bistro and cafe in Crookwell but you are welcome to join the ladies for dinner if you wish. They love entertaining and would enjoy your company. (Sandie and I have had many enjoyable meals there).
Casa della Pace is a dog friendly house. They have three pooches who love a pat, and you are welcome to bring your doggie friend/s too. The gardens are fenced, and dogs are welcome inside. (Sandie and I take our aging Husky Shakira with us for weekends.
Casa della Pace is only 10 minutes from the friendly town of Crookwell, home of the Lindner Sock Factory and Shop which sells the most comfortable and long lasting socks you'll ever wear.
The area is known for sheep and potatoes, and the scenery is gentle rolling hills and farms dotted with bush and dams.
There are a number of other interesting towns nearby such as Gunning and Taralga, and many scenic drives.
Historical Goulburn is 40 minutes away, and our nation's capital Canberra is only an hour and half from here. Wombeyan Caves is also a little over an hour's drive.
