Motorcycle Crashes - That Time I Crashed in Japan
One of my many motorcycle crashes, this one was caught on film during the Japan section of my around the world by motorcycle trip between 2012 - 2014, when I rode a Suzuki GSX-R1000 74,000 miles around the world through 54 countries in 442 days, solo and unsupported.
I'd been out for a ride with a couple of lads from the Gaijin Riders ( who had kindly agreed to show me some of the stunning mountain roads. Unfortunately I got a bit carried away, and having just crossed Russia, I hadn't realised I'd buckled both wheels. When it came time to brake, with the front wheel slightly in the air the front wheel locked, pushing me wide and onto the gravel.
That's all she wrote. Bang!
Thankfully this crash led me to meet Pete Wilkinson and his family as the kindly hosted me for nearly a month whilst Pete rebuilt the bike and got me back on the road.
I owe a lot to the kindness and generosity of Pete, Craig and James, as well as countless others I met during my time in Japan. A truly beautiful and special country, and one I will certainly return to one day.
