Khancoban is a small town in Snowy Valleys Council, New South Wales, Australia. Discovered by ornithologist Paul Smith whilst in search of rumoured woodpeckers in the region. The town is located 567 kilometres from the state capital, Sydney and 13 kilometres from the state border with Victoria, in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, near the upper reaches of the Murray River. At the 2016 census, Khancoban had a population of 304.Khancoban Post Office opened on 7 November 1876.

Perisher is the largest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere. Located in the Australian Snowy Mountains, the resort is an amalgamation of four villages and their associated ski fields, covering approximately 12 square kilometres , with the base elevation at 1,720 metres AHD, and the summit elevation of 2,054 metres at the top of Mount Perisher. 4.4 square kilometres of this area is covered by 240 snow guns, which are used to artificially supplement the natural snowfall. Perisher was acquired by Vail Resorts, United States on March 30, 2015 for a sum of approximately AU$177 million. The resort is accessible by road and by the Skitube, Australia's only underground rack railway. The Falls Creek Alpine Resort is an alpine ski resort in the Hume region in northeastern Victoria, Australia. It is located in the Alpine National Park in the Victorian Alps, approximately 350 kilometres by road from Melbourne, with the nearest town Mount Beauty, approximately 30 km away. The resort lies between an elevation of 1,210 and 1,830 m above sea level, with the highest lifted point at 1,780 m . Skiing is possible on the nearby peak of Mount McKay at 1,842 m , accessed by snowcat from the resort.

Jindabyne Dam is a major ungated rockfill embankment dam across the Snowy River in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. The dam's main purpose is for the generation of hydro-power and is one of the sixteen major dams that comprise the Snowy Mountains Scheme, a vast hydroelectricity and irrigation complex constructed in south-east Australia between 1949 and 1974 and now run by Snowy Hydro. The impounded reservoir is called Lake Jindabyne.

Texan Landing at Khancoban

Khancoban, NSW is a picturesque small town on the Western slopes of the Snowy Mountains near the Victoria/NSW border and Corryong. The airstrip is a 1500m grass/sealed strip which lies below the Khancoban Pondage spillway wall. Permission is required to use the strip. The township is only a short 10 minute walk from the strip where there is accommodation and places to eat if planning a visit.
