Queenstown Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Queenstown, in New Zealand’s South Island, is the gateway to stunning fiords, glaciers, ski fields and vineyards. This lake-side city provides the pulse that keeps this remote corner of the world energetic and youthful. As the descendants of fierce Polynesian warriors and determined European settlers, the Kiwis have the spirit of adventure running though their veins.
Experience the beauty of Lake Wakatipu aboard the TSS Earnslaw. Nicknamed “The Lady of the Lake”, for over 100 years this steamship hasn’t missed a beat, transporting livestock and passengers to and from the High Country. Back in Queenstown, soak up the Aotearoa sunshine on a sandy beach or in Queenstown Gardens. For a bird’s-eye view, ride the Skyline gondola to Bob’s Peak. Then when the sun gets low, head to Marine Parade and enjoy Mother Nature’s spectacle with kindred spirits from all over the world.
Queenstown expands and contracts with the rhythm of the seasons. After the hectic summer, the town transforms into a world-class ski destination. Queenstown has three main ski fields; The Remarkables Ski Field, Cardrona Alpine Resort and the Coronet Peak Ski Area.
When the snow melts, Queenstown transforms again to accommodate visitors who flock to the Arrow Basin to explore its charming historic towns. The Kiwis know when it’s time to slow down, unwind and enjoy the finer things in life. Queenstown and the nearby Gibbston Valley are home to over 75 wineries, where vintners produce pinot noirs acclaimed for their purity, freshness and vitality, a perfect reflection of the region itself!

Halls Creek Town Walk
THE BRIEF:
LandCorp's Halls Creek Town Walk project was shortlisted for an international architecture award in a community benefit category. Given the town's remoteness, the judges were unable to visit the community to 'walk the walk' themselves.
My brief was to produce a 3min 'virtual walk' to take the judges on the journey and to hear the stories of locals about the positive impact the project had on their community
THE RESULT:
The clip was used to support LandCorp's final award presentation. It is also set to feature on Kimberley community television station Goolarri TV (GTV35) and ICTV, an Indigenous channel broadcast across northern Australia.
PRODUCTION:
Given budget constraints and the logistics of shooting in such a remote location, I used a photographer to take stills while walking the project to achieve a POV-feel without the use of a dolly or steadycam.. these stills were image sequenced and edited together with the vision and interviews I captured on the road.
Produced the clip including development of narrative and graphics. Also negotiated permission to use the soundtrack which featuring respected Kimberley artist and Halls Creek local Peter Brandy.
Mariala National Park - A Silent Drought, Bones of Despair, Spines of Hope in Outback Queensland
Mariala National Park located in outback Queensland, West of Charleville, is a remote park protecting Mulga lands.
I explore the No. 3 Bore camping area, and the Rockholes camping area. Remnants from its early pastoral years scatter the park.

In Pursuit of Australia’s Murderous Flora Seminar
Slides and audio from a public talk about Australia's carnivorous plants, presented by Alastair Robinson at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne on 10 April 2019 (duration: 48 mins). SYNOPSIS: With an estimated 230 recognised species of carnivorous plants from 6 different genera and 3 different orders, and a further assemblage of proto-carnivorous species, Australia has the highest rates and diversity of plant carnivory on Earth. Alastair, who has studied these unusual plants across Malesia, Papua and Oceania, will provide an overview of the continent’s carnivorous flora, while addressing their ‘added value’—that is, not their mechanisms of carnivory, but the perhaps even more fascinating aspects of their biology that are accessory to the carnivorous syndrome, including unusual symbioses, novel infrageneric adaptive traits and their ecological value.
